I’m such a thankful person. Life has a wonderful way of making sure you notice the little things and then humbles you into appreciating them sooner or later. I’m thankful for my family, my friends, and the good times that we share together. That’s what everyone says, but now lets break it down.
When everything is going perfect it seems like life just goes on auto-pilot. What truly makes things memorable is when it all goes to shit. When you get together for the holidays do you swap stories about how great things went when you were kids?? Nope, you talk about all the BS you got into and got away with. Or didn’t get away with like when your parents came home early, found the house in disarray, and you swore there was no beer. Only to wake up in the morning and see that LeRoy threw the 2 cases of empties in the church yard across the damn street. Then there is the time we drank a handle of Tanqueray waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to finish only to get loaded, skip the meal altogether, and keep partying all night. Just got reminded of that night and had to add it to the blog.
There is a saying that good friends will bail you out of jail, but best friends will be sitting next to you saying “that was so much fun.” There is a sweet mixture of mischief and behaving. You have to find that balance and if you do cross the line get back to the right side quickly before the police shoot you. Just kidding today isn’t about all that. It is simply a reminder to not freak out when things go a bit bad. It will be an awesome story one day. Be thankful you survived to relive the funny parts with friends years later. I can only live vicariously thru others as I have always been a perfect angel.
Sometimes holidays are extra hard because people we want to be there can’t make it. They won’t make it again because God has called them home early. This is certainly extremely hard, and we can find ourselves thinking there is nothing to be thankful for. Remember that this is the easiest thankful there is. You had the blessing to know and love that person causing you to miss them so much. Be thankful for all the great memories you shared with them. They are looking down right now, make sure you are living life extra strong and giving them reasons to smile and be proud.
Holidays mean being around lots of children. Kids are awesome. They have a way of brightening up a room just by coming into it. Plus they are good for getting another beer, mixing another drink, and well, nothing else. They are innocent and should be appreciated. I am happiest teasing them, teaching them, and of course beating them. I am thankful for the opportunity to beat children. They deserve it and it is fun. Kids have a sense of humor. You should get one as well.
There is a theme to this blog that you may have caught onto. There is one thing we should all be thankful for always and not just one day a year. What is it you might be asking?? You MUST be thankful for TIME. You only get so much time. So much time with those you love, so much time to laugh, to cry, to see the potatoes drop and hear Mom say Fuck. Those are the memories, those are the times you remember, and those are what should be cherished the most.
I’m thankful for all the people that have been in my life. All of you have made it an amazing journey this far, and I’m looking forward to making more awesome memories with all of you for many years to come.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
