SET THE PACE

The world is a funny place. It can also be scary, insensitive, mean, and completely unfair. You can wake up in the best freaking mood ever and within seconds your environment which includes other humans or animals can suck the happiness out of you like a brand new Dewalt shop vac sucks up insulation. Those new extra quiet Dewalt Shop Vacs are awesome. I’m hoping for a sponsorship so if you know anyone hook a brother up!! If you don’t know anyone, I say this, what good are you?

You wake up with a smile and then it happens. What happens Bucky?? Everything. You stub your toe on your night stand. Step on a lego. Forgot to buy shampoo. Ran out of toothpaste. Someone ate the last apple. The bacon is out of date and smells bad. The trash didn’t get picked up. Someone dinged your car door. You get cut off on the way to work. Your co-workers smell bad, again…. Life simply happens. That smile turns to a scowl. That scowl leads to irritation. You fake a smile and say “I haven’t had my coffee yet..”, but you know inside coffee won’t fix this storm. Bob in accounting laughs and says “I drank the last cup of coffee, but there is tea.” Kill them all the voice says.

Paragraph 3. You made it. The best part of all is it will all happen again tomorrow. Maybe not the same exact events, but things will irritate you until the anger comes. I have a couple of extremely obvious things to point out to you real quick. First one is this. You are not alone. Everyone else is along for the ride, AND sometimes it is your face that Bob sees as you pour the last of the coffee into your cup. Oh not me Bucky, I never cause others to want to smash a hole into the wall…. Liar. We all have our moments. Maybe next time you can start a new pot before you add cream and sugar into your cup. Goes a long way and leading by example is the best way to stop the circle of irritation.

You see the first smile of the day is free. You get to wake up happy if you choose to and you certainly should because the only other alternative is being dead and that sucks. So be happy you woke up every single day. Once you receive the free “I’m Alive” smile, you have to work for all the rest of them throughout the day. The good news is the more often you do it the easier it gets. In fact if you concentrate you can simply keep the free smile on longer and that way you don’t have to work for shii-stuff. There is a secret here I’ll let you in on. Let go of the little things that don’t matter. You have other toes. Be happy you can afford legos for your kids. Toothpaste is overrated. Bacon is well awesome, but one day without it and you might live longer. More free smiles one might say….

Happy people don’t have some magic potion. They don’t have an easier life. They simply understand that smiles equal strength. Anyone can lose their crap every 27 seconds about this and that. Real power comes when you don’t. When you are able to laugh things off. Try it. Watch the reaction of those around you when you don’t react. You might think I’m typing these words out to let you into my club of positivity, but the truth is I don’t care if you join or not. It takes to much energy for me to try and drag you along. The reason I’m writing this is to remind myself. You see tomorrow morning I’m going to wake up and read this blog before I do anything else and it will set the pace for my entire day. I challenge you to do the same thing. I promise if you do, no one will have to drag you anywhere.

And most importantly, share this message with someone else that needs a kick in the ass to get out of the anger rut. Just takes one at the right time.

ENOUGH

Saddle up boys and girls. Today is a strong message that has been 46 years in the making. Your attention span is short so I won’t waste time playing with your mind while I finally get the to point. I recently went to Washington DC and absolutely loved most of it. My hotel was insanely expensive and the staff was 50% stupid, but that makes sense because half the government is made up of morons. We can argue which half another day because your opinion like mine means nothing. This message today is for 100% of the people so I hope you find some pride in it and possibly share it with others. Yeah I’m asking for you to spread these words I’m writing today. Please.

I called my Dad and told him I was in DC. He immediately asked if I was going to visit the Vietnam memorial or wall as some call it. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I hadn’t thought of it before he asked, but I’m sure I would have. My visit there was very last minute and my first goal was to see the White House. When I got off the phone I wondered how I could be so dumb to not have that as my first stop, but I’m far from perfect as all of you already know. I decided then to do something special although I wasn’t sure what that would look like.

My Dad aka My Hero graduated high school in 1967 and I doubt any of his teachers would have called him gifted in academics. Ironically the movie the Graduate came out in 1967 FYI. College wasn’t in his immediate future, but I can attest that the man is incredibly smart when it comes to things that matter. You want it fixed, he can do it. You want it shot, he will hit it with the first bullet. You want a story told with pizazz, he is your guy. You want someone with heart to listen to your problems, there isn’t a human alive with more caring in his words. With college out of the question and a questionable night driving a fast car he was volunteered to the ARMY, 1st Air Cavalry. This country was at war in a far off place and he said “I’ll Go!”

What happened over there was awful. I’ve read many books to try and understand what he went through, but none of them are enough. I call it the great/horrid theory. Try describing a great sunset to someone that wasn’t there even with pictures. You always end up saying “you had to see it, the pictures don’t do it justice.” Now think about someone trying to describe absolute horror. Even with pictures and all the adjectives in the English language we can’t begin to understand the disgustingly awful things these 18 year old boys had to endure. The books I have read made me want to throw up and that is just someone relaying the experience. You can’t let experiences like those go no matter how much substance you take. Some went to drugs, some went to alcohol, some just took their lives, and all of them lucky enough to come home were forever changed.

I decided to make a sign and hold it up at the wall as a tribute to the sacrifice my Father and others made in that far off country that now manufactures corporations products dirt cheap. We can talk about that second part another day. 58,220 Americans died in that awful war. Many of you, like me read that number and breezed right by it, but when you see that wall with the tiny letters engraved into it and how freaking big it is that number hits different. Very different. To me I saw 58,220 families that never were. FknBucky’s that never got to get born because they were lost in an argument. It makes me cry when I think about it. My father was one of the lucky ones that survived and was able to over come all of the horrible he witnessed to start a family. That doesn’t mean he is perfect. In fact he will be the first to admit he made mistakes along the way, but he is still here which is a testament to his incredible strength and I love him for it.

I drove to Staples and got a large poster board, a metal sign stand, and some markers to take back to my hotel. I then made my sign free hand and accidentally drew the N backwards as you can see in the picture. I should have bought a spare board, but sometimes when things are done on a whim and from the heart they are imperfect. I then headed out from my hotel for the 1 mile journey to the Vietnam memorial with my stand, poster, and service dog. I didn’t really take into account how difficult that was going to be, but I had already committed. I know this is a long blog today, but I assure you the ending is worth it so stay with me.

I rolled up and found a respectful place to set up. I started to pull things out, put my stand together, and purposely kept the words hidden to not spoil the surprise. It was about 1 PM, the sky was blue, the air was about 60 degrees, and the memorial was quite busy with spring break groups walking by constantly. I saw some kids place letters at the wall like the one I photographed above. I finished setting up, Annie sat next to me, and we quietly watched people walk by. I was sweating and nervous thinking “what the F am I doing??” These people are going to laugh at me, they won’t get it, some might get mad, I should just take a photo and leave. I didn’t leave. I stayed and smiled at people as they read my sign.

It read: These Men Died, My Father Survived, I hope I’m, ENOUGH

It didn’t take long for people to smile back. A few men wearing Veteran hats gave me a thumbs up. Soon a Vietnam Veteran came by to thank me for what I was doing. He said he thought it was going to be a pro Hamas sign, but showed a large toothless smile when he read what I had written. A good number of people stopped to ask me about my Dad and eventually told me to thank him for his sacrifice, some asked me why I made the sign, and some tried to put money in Annie’s water bowl. Haha. I didn’t accept any money, but was appreciative anyone would want to give and asked them to buy a homeless person a meal instead. There are a lot of homeless people in DC so they didn’t have to go far.

Many people looked at me and mouthed the words “You are Enough”. I want to stress that I am blessed to be here. I’m blessed to be my father’s child. My life, like his, has been full of hardships, but it has also been a beautiful journey of happy wonderful times. My father taught me to focus on the good in life, he taught me to face my problems head on, over come them, and then let go of the bad. He taught me to find the humor in everything. Those words are much easier to say than do, but we never stop trying. Those people were right. I am enough, but more importantly so is my Father.

This photo is my Dad’s 70th birthday. This man has made a large impact on many lives.

This blog, like my day in DC, sitting in the sun at the Vietnam Memorial is a tribute and dedicated to Victor McKinley. My hero. He is enough. He always has been.

Thank you Dad for being ENOUGH.

Perfect

What is up?? Let’s get right into today. Being the best. I strive for it in everything I do. I’ve had many people tell me that I’m the type of person that is good at everything I do. Maybe not riding motorcycles, but we can all agree that day sucked. I do however take pride in my work, my play, my ability to think, and all the other things that come about in my life. I believe everyone should think this way. They should take pride in their work, their marriage, their kids, their home, and their body. Ahhh you knew I was going to get there.

I’m on this health kick if you haven’t noticed. My perfection can become a downfall and I have to take notice before it starts to chip away at the progress I have made. I have this tick in my brain that wants all of my activities to be the absolute best every single time, but that has created a mountain that can’t always be climbed. In fact it stops me from even putting on my climbing shoes. I somehow decide if I can’t do it perfectly, I should just not do it. Sounds kinda stupid once I type it out.

I want the weight loss. I want the energy. I want to feel good about myself. I think about working out, but then I have thoughts like I’m tired, I’m not feeling that awesome, I’m this/I’m that, or I’m just being a pansy. If I can’t do my workout like a beast then I should just wait until I feel better. That is quitter mentality. The truth is right there in front of me, but I’m not wanting to see it. This week has been a hard one, but I pushed thru and learned a very important lesson.

Who cares. Who cares if I’m not 100% into the workout every single day. What matters is I complete it. Maybe it takes an extra 22 minutes. Maybe I have to take an extra break here and there. The importance is that I simply DO IT. The mental win is better than “killing it”. My heart fills up with self pride every time I finish no matter how much time it took or how I looked doing it. I know I took another step up that mountain and nobody can stop me from completing the climb. Nobody, but myself that is.

We’ve all heard the slogans. Just do it. Never give up. Keep trying. Blah blah blah. It is all crap if you don’t put your shoes on. If those slogans worked every American would be in shape right now. It is hard to do what I’m currently doing. Way harder than I originally thought, but I don’t care how difficult it is. I’m going to succeed. I weighed myself today and I’m down 8 lbs in a month. I wish it was more, but that will come.

Perfection is the goal, but I had to learn that the path leading to it is filled with imperfections. That is a very deep sentence so instead of telling you to read it again, I’m going to type it out again.

Perfection is the goal, but I had to learn that the path leading to it is filled with imperfections.

Power Wine

Ahhh the power company. We all need power and there is no competition so regardless of what the bill says, we have to pay it. Some of us could go back to having a campfire in our living room for heat and cooking our ramen noodles over the open flame like those that came before us, but you and I both know that isn’t happening. I get my bill and have noticed every single month there is a $49 monthly service fee. This is something that is definitely going to piss me off once I learn there is nothing I can do about it, but I’m a gluten for punishment so I make the call. No safe word needed, the MAN is going to make sure I enjoy this financial raping.

I ask my question and was told “Hang on my computer is running slow” by the very kind woman on the phone. I will be clear it isn’t her fault, she is simply first line at the S&M power company. We have some small talk for a few minutes about the weather, snow, and puppies until her screen finally populates with the answer. She says “That is a fee we charge every month to cover the cost of the poles and other stuff.” End quote. Wtf. She knew that answer long before the screen came up. All that was accomplished is I’m out $49 and now it hurts to sit down.

LUCKILY though they have juuuusssstt enough money left over to make a magazine. Yep when telephone poles don’t get hit by drunk drivers they use our monthly service fee to publish a magazine. There are no ads in it because.. wait for it. WE PAY FOR IT. Awesome. Anyone know how much it costs to print these full color magazines?? I do and it isn’t cheap. Wait a second, isn’t Bucky supposed to write positive things?? Don’t get your panties bunched up, I’m about to see the light!

This months issue has a bit of home in it. FOX RIDGE WINERY has a full page write up in this unwanted $49 monthly subscription. Not their fault. I know this awesome family from back in the day and they are amazing people that are always willing to lend a helping hand. Like if during a large snow storm a car goes into the ditch near their home. Thanks again for that by the way. I will say a tax was paid via the cold ones left behind…

The $49 fee sucks, but like all of you I’ll pay it. From now on though I’ll smile because it will make me think of the Sedas and all the hard work they have put into building this amazing local business near Traer, Iowa. I hope all of you reading this go check them out, buy some wine, and support them any way possible. Ha. You thought I couldn’t do it.

http://www.foxridgewine.com

I have to remind myself to find the good in everything every day. I was so irritated about this stupid fee, but now I’ll focus on my hometown when I pay it. I’ll think of Fox Ridge Winery when I autopay my power bill instead of that darn monthly service fee. Monthly service fee sounds like something that should be looked into by DOGE, but that is another blog.

Drink Good Wine from Traer, Iowa and be happy.

a poo story

Imagine you get up at 5:40 AM, eat some quick fruit, do some exercise with dumb bells, a bit of yoga, and then after a few more bites of fruit take your bestie out for a morning walk. The world is very wet from 24 hours of rain the day before, but at least it isn’t falling from the sky. My fur coat wearing friend takes off running for the park area only pausing at each drive way to see if I’m going to yell or let her go full speed today. It was a full speed kind of morning.

I only throw the frisbee for a good 10-15 minutes because my receiver has had a bum leg for the last few days and today was the first day back in action. I’m stoked. Feeling great to have so much accomplished and the day has barely even started. My spasms have been SO MUCH BETTER since getting the kidney out in July allowing me to actually exercise and have a life again. More on that some other day.

I see Annie drop some treasures by the mailboxes and like I do every single time, I make my way over to pick it up. I am obsessed with picking up after my dog simply because I can’t stand other people that don’t. I don’t want to be a hypocrite so wheelchair be damned, I’ll get that poo. I’ve fallen more times than I’d like to admit, but luckily that didn’t happen today. Nope I did not fall out of my chair picking up dog poo.

I did however roll thru some other persons dog poo getting to my dogs poo. I didn’t realize it of course until it was all over my wheels, then my sweatshirt, my gloves, and finally the rest of my clothes. If your windows rattled in NC this AM it was probably me yelling “Oh darn”. I’m pretty sure I saw some children start crying at my “darns”. Children know more curse words than I do.

I was pissed. I started to yell at Annie even though it wasn’t her fault. I stopped and realized I was allowing something stupid to mess my day up. What is the point?? The person who left the literal crap behind didn’t care I was mad. They will most likely never know cause they suck. Karma should kill them. Soon I hope. I stopped being mad, but never said I wasn’t holding a grudge.

I went home, stripped down (let that image soak in), got into the shower, pulled my wheels in and scrubbed them down, dried everything off, and in about an hour was all cleaned up. It took longer than just swapping shoes like most people if they step in some dog poo, but my life carried on just fine. I thought of the monk carrying the woman and decided to leave that shit where it belonged. Behind those mailboxes three blocks away.

Russian Pothead

Got another Pothead back from Russia. Maybe Americans should stop smuggling weed into that country so we don’t have to beg Putin to get them back. Just a thought. Not really my thing for this blog these days, but I will do a quick FknBucky public service announcement: Don’t take weed, marijuana, herb, green, wacky tabacky, or ganja into Russia. Pfffft! Easier said than done says 22 year old Bucky. For the record 22 year old Bucky was so cool.

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about the guy, but I’m happy for him and his family. I traveled in Europe about 10 years ago and I was very aware that I wasn’t in my homeland. I was in a different place with their rules and I’m considered a risk taker by many, but I promise I didn’t F around because I didn’t want to find out. I’m not going to pick on this guy. Haha. Of course I am. Doing drugs is stupid, doing them in other countries with VERY strict laws is really really dumb.

Don’t take weed to Russia. Don’t do heroin in Malaysia because they will kill you. Same with Saudi Arabia, yeah, you get the death penalty for selling drugs there. I made lots of bad decisions growing up and it is what it is. I’m not proud of some of those choices, but they got me to where I am right now today. All things aside I’m alive, mostly healthy, and I have the greatest family along with some of the greatest friends a human could ask for from all over the world. I’m not sure what the title will be at this point because I have no idea where this is going to end up.

Truth is I want to be in the habit of writing everyday. Scratch that I write everyday, but I want to publish everyday. I think it is important to keep me on track. The messages I put in these blogs are my accountability mirror. I read this 50 times by the time I publish it. Think back to the messages in my blogs and now imagine if you read that message fifty times a day. We are what we consume. You are what you eat. Funny joke right, but it is true. Same is true with your mind.

If you listen to songs about drugs, drinking, and sleazy habits all day that is what you will think about. Let’s go on this new obligation journey together. Try listening, reading, and speaking things that are positive and will keep you uplifted throughout the day. I assure you that it works and will make a difference in your daily life. Give it a shot. Or….. Grab some blunts and fly to Russia for the weekend. Twenty-two year old Bucky just might meet you at the airport.

EASY COME EASY GO

FRIDAY!! Well for most of us anyway. When I used to snowboard all the time Monday was my Friday, but who cares about that. I recently wrote about gambling and it seems I’m not the only one in this country that has that app on my phone. I have seen so many YouTube videos of steamers and others yelling about how awesome it is to bet it all Plinko balls, slots, blackjack, or put everything you own on black. Let me be very clear about something. That is not awesome and it is absolutely incredibly stupid.

You want to gamble then do it, but…. Learn to gamble on yourself. Make yourself better, read the books, talk to successful people (not only about money), give back by volunteering and helping others, and just concentrate on being a better person. Then your life will double in value. Just like when the roulette wheel stops on Black.

There are lots of sayings that are from forever ago and nobody remembers where they came from. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater is one. WTF does that even mean?? Did someone accidentally throw a baby away one day?? I can think of a few adults I wish would have been…. Just kidding. It is WAY more than a few. Here is one that is way more applicable to today’s message.

Easy come Easy go. Pretty simple. I saw a video of someone that gambled 10K on a roulette table. They won in the video. Good for them. I thought about how hard I work to earn that amount of money and the thought of putting it at such stupid risk made my hands sweat. Now if one of you handed me $10,000 and said “do whatever you want”, I’d have no problem throwing that down on black. I’d scream “LET IT RIDE” if I won because there is no attachment to that money.

Here is the point. When you work for something you take care of it so when in doubt work on yourself. The more you do that the more value you will place on yourself. The more you cherish yourself the more others will begin to cherish you. Things worth having are not easily attained and take hard work. Why not make yourself one of those things?? Get smarter, get stronger, get in shape, be kind to others, volunteer, and if you find a baby laying outside in some bathwater please remember. Someone threw it out for a reason.

Backwards Day

Welcome back!! Those are the words I heard when I woke up in the ICU last May. Crazy to think about how far I’ve come since that day just a few months ago. I was convinced I was going to die, that is what happened, but once again I defied the odds and did not. Staring death in the face used to be a huge deal, but somehow for me it feels more like meatloaf Wednesday. Ha. I use humor to deflect if you haven’t noticed by now.

None of us know what tomorrow will bring. It might be crazy, might be mundane, might be memorable, or it might just be another day that gets lost in the sands of time. I sports bet and have the app on my phone that allows me to bet on cricket games in Ghana. I don’t do that, but I can if I wanted to. I do however bet on NFL games and which player might score a touchdown, what team may win, or a QB that will throw for over 300 yards. I win some, I lose some, but I only bet what I might have spent on a night out when I used to drink. My point is I never actually know what is going to happen until the game is played. No one does.

The future is unscripted. Just waking up each day is a blessing and I choose to look at it that way. We don’t know what is going to happen to us each day, but there is something we can control. There is something we can plan, something we can foresee, something we can predict 100% of the time. To a gambler a prediction that never fails is a prayer answered, a dream come true, a Big Bang Theory blessing that once proven would be worth a fortune!! Now in this blog I’m about to give it to you for free. How can that be Bucky?? I’ll tell you why. It is because I love you.

What is this magic you speak of?? What can I control?? Hold on tight and take a deep breath. Your attitude. BOOM. No matter what happens in your life, you have the ability to control how you react to it, how you accept it, and how you treat others around you during it. Much easier said than done. I’m more guilty than anyone of letting my circumstances and environment control my emotions instead of me taking the reins when needed. I’m not proud of that, but I understand it which allows me to change it. You can’t improve yourself unless you admit you have some flaws. Acknowledging your imperfections isn’t a weakness and should never be looked at as such.

Being aware of your attitude is POWER. Who doesn’t want power?? Try not getting angry today. Try reacting to a situation in the complete opposite way your initial emotions tell you to. Someone takes your parking spot, tell them it is okay, they must be in a huge hurry and very important. See the shame in their face as they realize how selfish they are. Your kid makes a huge mess, don’t yell at them, understand they are probably bored and spend time doing a craft with them. Look I’m all for beating kids any chance you get, but tomorrow they will piss you off again and you can scream at them double loud. For today react backwards and see how your family, your colleagues, and the world reacts to you. You just might be surprised.

A happy plus

Hello my literate friends. I’ve got the anger right now so I decided to write, but it might not be what you think so please read to the end. I wanted to write a message about Christmas, then New Year’s, and now I realize we are already past one week into 2025. These days fly by without us paying attention. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and then year after year slip by. I’m 46 now. I’m a plus. What is a plus Bucky?? I’ll tell you. Recently I was on Amazon or something and a chart came up. It asked my age. Here are the choices.

18-25, 25-35, 35-45, 45+

I thought WTF when I had to check the plus box. I can deal with the gray hairs, the aches and pains in the AM, the loss of people I love, but marking that box hit me pretty hard. I thought about my goals, my life, my decisions, and all of the moments I could have done differently. Then I got drunk and texted ex-girlfriends until 4 AM. Just kidding. I’m old and only text until Matlock comes on at 9 pm.

The truth is we can’t change the past. Ever. We can learn from our mistakes and try very hard to not repeat them. That is it. No more. I like to read from a book call ZEN FLESH ZEN BONES and I highly recommend everyone on planet EARTH read it as well. There is a story in it about two monks walking down a road in a downpour. They come across a very beautiful young woman walking in a silk kimono that needs to get across a muddy section. One of the monks simply walked over to her, picked her up, carried her across the mud so that she would keep her clothes clean, and then put her down.

The two monks continued on their way without saying a word. Many hours later as they lay down to sleep the monk that didn’t carry the woman finally had to say something. All day he thought about how his friend had touched a woman when they had sworn to NOT do that very thing. He said “Friend, how could you carry that woman knowing our vows??

As he rolled over to fall asleep the other monk replied “I set her down on the side of the road, but it seems you have been carrying her all day.”

How much do you carry around all day?? How much of it is from other peoples actions that have nothing to do with you??? Imagine if you could learn to leave it at the side of the road. We should always be students, learning to be better at life, enabling us to become teachers to the next generation. If you agree with that statement what lessons do you want to teach?? I would like the people around me to become better than I am, to be smarter than I am, more patient than I am, and hopefully more prosperous than I am in all aspects of life.

I will now tell you why I was angry. My van had an oil leak. I’m told it is common with my model of vehicle and it is going to cost me about $1,000. I pay CarShield $89 a month to cover repairs that come up, but now for the second time in 5 years they denied to pay anything. Had I simply put the $89 a month I pay CarShield into an account I would still have $3,193 AFTER I paid for the repairs needed.

Instead I’ve paid them $5,340, paid auto repair workers $2,147, and have the same result. I’ve cancelled my policy with them this morning and just set up an auto pay out of my account into a new “auto” savings account. Lesson learned. This was an expensive one, but I promised myself not to carry it around with me all day. I’m going to leave it here. It isn’t going to hurt CarShield if I run around town telling everyone how horrible of a day I’m having because of this event. Nope.

I’m going to tell everyone I’m doing great. I caught the leak early before any serious damage was done. AWE AUTO in Traer, IA was able to get my van fixed in a very reasonable amount of time and for a very fair price. Live is good. I have an amazing family, a ton of awesome friends, an amazing furry best friend, a business of my own, my health is great, and on and on and on. So this PLUS is going to smile today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the year. I hope you find reasons to smile with me.

Thank you

I have a dozen blogs in my head right now, but this one is way overdue. I grew up in rural Iowa, driving around on gravel roads, drinking beer on random bridges, and raising hell anyway I could without fear of punishments. I somehow understood the razor edge and spent a lot of time on it loving the adrenaline that came with being a bad boy without actually being a bad human. I always worked, never stole anything from anyone, and simply liked drinking Busch lights a long time before I was 21. This habit drew me a lot of attention from Johnny Law and let me tell you (Trump voice), I got a lot of attention from this guy, like way more than anyone else….

I hated cops. They took my beer away. I paid for that I would say. Jerks. I’d yell “We are just trying to have some fun, we aren’t hurting anyone, go solve a crime you not nice guys.” Ha. I’m sure you can think of the words that I actually would use. I won’t give the actual number possessions under the legal age I had while living in Iowa, but I will say it was more than 5 and less than 2,003. I’m over 21 now, just barely.., so I don’t have to worry about the police taking my beer away anymore.

Today is a thank you. A long overdue thank you. I’m thanking my former enemy. The Tama County (Iowa) Sheriffs department. For those of you that may not know a friend of mine, Ryan Cooper, was murdered in Traer, Iowa on June 18th, 2021. It was vicious, it was evil, it was the most cold blooded act I’ve ever seen in life, and it took over 2 years for an arrest to be made. His wife and her lover are now in a cage awaiting trial and will be found guilty of this horrid, pathetic, and cowardly act. Why would you thank them if it took over two years Bucky?? I’m going to tell you right now.

I was at the funeral. It was incredibly hard. I saw friends I haven’t seen in 20 years, we gave the awkward smile of hello, good to see you, but no joyous moment because the reason we were together still hadn’t set it yet. I saw Dennis Kucera the Sheriff of Tama County. He didn’t smile at all. He was in uniform. He was working. This is a small town. We all know each other and have history. His son and the Ryan were very close friends and I can’t imagine the strength it took to stand there on that day. I can’t imagine the drive to work everyday passing friends and neighbors who keep asking the same question “Why can’t you make an arrest??” I can’t imagine passing the house it happened in and then passing the house the murderer was now living in with her children on the way to work every single day.

Dennis had to keep it professional. He couldn’t explain all the work going on, all the red tape, all the waiting for transcripts and text messages, and how they had to wait to make sure the case was air tight to hopefully keep the guilty in prison forever. Many of us wondered who did it and came to the same conclusion over and over. There simply wasn’t anyone else it could be, but yet it took SO LONG to get an arrest. It was frustrating for us, but I can’t imagine being the man responsible for catching the killer of the man who was in his son’s wedding.

I don’t mention people by name in my blog often, but today is special. I want to thank Dennis Kucera and the Tama County Sheriff department for not giving up, for keeping it professional, and for arresting the monsters that stole our brother. #BuschLightBrotherhood

The trial will come, they will be found guilty, and then spend the rest of their lives in prison. No joy from any of it. A senseless crime that stole a loving father from his children and will take their mother away as well. They are the ultimate victims and my heart breaks for them. I ask that everyone remembers Ryan how he was in life and not the evil way he was taken from us. His smile, his eagerness to help a friend, and the sound of him cracking open that cold Busch Light after working all day is how I choose to remember my friend.

Thank you Tama County.
