Change

Hump day!! Que the camel. Those commercials are great. The first time I saw it I thought “this is stupid” and then I was bombarded with it 79 times a day for 3 years straight until I started to yell “HUUUMMMP DAAAY” in the office. We fear change no matter what it is, distrust the unknown, and simply accept what is normal EVEN if it isn’t good for us. Why Bucky? What did I tell you yesterday about asking me questions?? Don’t worry I already forgot too.

Fearing the unknown is in our DNA. We are programmed to just go with what we know. That is why advertisers spend BILLIONS of dollars every year to show you their product over and over again. Insurance agencies (I hate them), food, beer, and on and on do this because they know if they get you to buy just one time you are likely to simply choose their product the next time instead of trying something new. Every thing you do has been calculated, discussed, and agreed upon in a board room somewhere two years before you make that decision. Creepy huh.

I recently heard a quote that has stuck with me and I’m going to share it with you. For free. Don’t worry I don’t expect you to do anything with it. Heck I’m surprised you have spent 45 seconds reading this blog. Please do not panic I assure you that video of puppies licking windows will can be there when you be done getting more smarter by reading this. Yeah I wrote it that way on purpose. Ready for some mind blowing knowledge? “If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it.” Read it again.

When you accept something that means you are choosing it. I accept my salary. I accept my job. I accept my body. I accept my childrens behavior. That means you choose those things. No I don’t Bucky!! I want a better paying job, I want better health, I want my children to not act like a-holes…. You can say those things, but the facts are simple and everyone can see them. If you aren’t actively working to change the things in your life it proves you made the decision you like them the way they are. Yeah, I had to realize I was making crap decisions for myself too, but the revolution came once I had the epiphany that I held the power to improve EVERYTHING.

I just like this picture of Annie from yesterday so I added it. Back to actual blog now….

A simple 15 minute workout. Reading a book for an hour at night instead of watching a Criminal Minds rerun (love that show) for the 9th time. Putting the beer down and spending time with kids doing something constructive instead of leaving them to fend for themselves until bedtime. I’m not a parent, but it doesn’t take a genius to know kids just want you to pay attention to them and will do whatever it takes to get time from you. Why not make it positive is all I’m saying?

If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it. I know you didn’t read it again like I told you so I decided to write it again. It is cool the more I write it the more I will follow my own advice. I write for me and simply decide to share with you. I choose to lead by example in everything I do. I’m most accountable to myself and believe you should do the same. Stop worrying about what other people think because they don’t give a crap about you. In fact they want you to suck. It makes them feel better about their crap decisions. The best thing you can do to get back at anyone that ever doubted you is to succeed and become amazing! I promise that will never happen if you don’t start doing something different.

Hope

Time goes by so darn fast. A day here, a day there, a week, a month, and inevitably years.. I just like all of you allow myself to be fooled by the biggest genius I know. Me. If you don’t look up to yourself how can you expect anyone else to?? In this exact moment you still have time to change. I don’t know how much time you have, but as long as you’re alive there is always hope. Hope. Easy word to say, but sometimes when we need it the most, it becomes impossible to find. You look everywhere. In this spot and that spot, in this person and that person, ripping everything you know apart until you sit down out of breath and defeated. Funny and not funny, you had it the whole time. Inside of you. You simply forgot how turn it on.

How do I turn it on Bucky?? By believing in yourself. Confidence. Read the books. Take the classes. Find a mentor. Make yourself better. I write this “message” because I need to hear it. I need to be reminded. I haven’t posted in a long time. I’ve written a ton, but haven’t shared. I have to teach myself that I can get my point across in less than 1,200 words.

Turn your hope back on. Right now. Best way to create that spark is to give someone else hope. A hug. A compliment. A quick “I believe in you.” You are enough. The greatest thing about losing something is the fact you can find it.

UnThankful

Turkey Day. Family. Being thankful. I drove to Alabama yesterday which sucked. Too many other drivers on the road. I wish I could just zap them all to disappear like ships in the Bermuda Triangle. For the record, I hate people.

I say blah to Thanksgiving. We pass it over and head straight to Christmas anyway. Some say it is racist. A racist holiday to spend time with your loved ones and take a day to express your thankfulness for all the blessings in your life. When you explain it like that, it makes total sense. Stupid racist Thanksgiving people. I say we switch it up from now on.

Take this Thursday in November to be a selfish prick. Eat all you want, diets be darned, and fall asleep with your pants unbuttoned with the NFL games playing on TV. Make it 24 hours of all about you time. Thankful. Not today.

Instead of being thankful one day a year, how about we be thankful 364 days a year. Take the one day to hate on everyone, get drunk on wine all day, and eat a huge meal you most likely did not pay for or help prepare. Don’t thank the cooks. Eat with your hands after 7 tequila shots while cursing in front of the kiddos. I just described every holiday of my 20’s…

I just find it fake. It is like 9-11 when you post a “never forget” meme, but forget about it the next day. Did you donate to a fund to help first responders with illnesses directly from being at ground zero??? I’m making a point. I’m so “thankful” today. Tomorrow AM I will be complaining that I don’t have as big of a TV as my neighbor and that is society’s fault. My neighbor works overtime while I spend my free time drinking beer and smoking weed, but it is not fair he/she has a nicer car than I do.

Okay I’ve beat you up enough. You don’t need a holiday to be thankful and appreciate the blessings you currently have. You can start by no longer measuring your happiness with things. Happiness is a choice, an emotion that cost no money, and if you don’t have a lot of it the only person to blame is yourself. Be accountable for you and own your choices. Best part of that is every single day you can wake up and make new choices. Choose to read a book, take a class, call an old friend, end a feud with a loved one, or anything. Pick someone and do a kind thing for them randomly.

About a year ago I decided to send my niece handwritten letters for fun. Getting mail as a 7 year old is a pretty big deal. It takes 5 minutes to write up a message and maybe $.50 for a stamp. I wait for no holiday or birthday. I just do it. I put some cheap stickers in it and I’m told the excitement is massive when it shows up. I’ve gotten a couple letters in return, and it is pretty exciting to see a crayon colored butterfly mixed in with credit card offers and hospital bills. I’m thankful for those butterflies every time I open the fridge. Best art in my home.

My overall point is this. Make every day of your life Thanksgiving. Appreciate the blessings you have right now. A wife, girlfriend, kids, friends, family, food, clothes, shelter, neighbors, and all the rest. I come across a lot of unthankful people everyday and honestly it makes me sad. Negative energy is contagious. Here is a mind blowing thought. Positive energy is also contagious. What do you want to be known for??? If you want things to be different in the future change the decisions you make today.

I truly hope all of you have blessed day with friends and family.

Love Who You Are Today, Tomorrow is Not Guaranteed.

Ban the Idiots

Happy 2022. I haven’t posted much of anything the last couple months. Hard to be a writer for a living if I don’t write. There are lots of excuses of why I haven’t been getting after it, but they are all crap. I need to push thru the hard times instead of being lazy. Normally I’ll see something, read something, or have a conversation that lights up my brain so much that I want to write about it. For some reason I wasn’t getting that as of late, but lucky for you it just happened.

Books. They are awesome. I LOVE books. I love reading. I started early. I would read Hardy boys books in one night while in grade school. In first grade I was put into the slow reading group. I didn’t want to be in the slow group so that summer I went home and started reading books when I had free time. When I started second grade I told the teacher I knew how to read good now so I didn’t have to be in the slow group. That was that. Later on I was invited to join a group called Flight of the Mind which as for students that were above the current challenges they taught. I went from slow group to gifted group in 2 years by reading.

The librarian knew me and would pick out books for me to broaden my span. The first book she gave me was ”A Day no Pigs would Die” by Robert Newton Peck. It was amazing. The story stuck with me. A young boy who’s father was illiterate was also the pig killer at the slaughter plant in town. He worked hard killing to provide for his family. His father had a heart condition I think and died because he couldn’t read how to open his pill bottle. You read push down and turn, but he saw nothing. Beside him a rock that he tried to smash the bottle open. Everyone in town and the slaughter plant came to his funeral. Hence the title a day no pigs would die because they attended the funeral.

I read that book in 5th grade and I still remember it. Getting to my bigger point. I read an article on Huffington Post about how conservatives are banning books. Liberals do it too. To this I say WTF. The book I talk about above is on the banned list because there is a time that they get a boar (male pig) to come in and get the female pig pregnant. Momma pig said no, but the male took his loving anyway. I guess it could be considered a pig rape. This happens in the real world. I had a registered Durac female pig growing up. I won a ”Grand Champion” ribbon at the fair with her. We decided to bring in a registered durac male to get a litter of purebred piglets. The boar ran Ms. Piggy (I know I named her when I was 9) all over and she died. I came home from school and my parents told me she was dead. I burst into tears and that sucked.

Heaven forbid someone read some real life in a book. NO books should be banned. Don’t like it, don’t read it. I mean seriously freedom of speech is now you can talk, but only say things I want to hear. When was the last time the school bully held you down and made you read a book?? The Kite Runner. Another book/story that is real and hardcore. Life is not easy. There is bad stuff that happens in the real world. These stories teach lessons that help people grow, think, and learn. One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is a love of reading.

This banning books BS is wrong on every level. This is America and we are supposed to be free to do what we want, learn what we want, and become what we want. I say stop it. Stop telling me you are protecting me while taking little pieces of freedom from me and more importantly future generations. It is important to push back on all of them. Liberal or Conservative. The people that do this NEVER STOP. You say okay we will ban this group of books. Do they whiners stop whining?? No. It is all they know. To stay relevant they pick a new group of books to protect you from. I don’t know about you, but I never asked for protection. Who are these people??

The only thing we should be banning is allowing the words BAN and BOOK in the same sentence. Where is this huge problem happening?? I mean you walk down the alley on the way home from school and see the drinkers, the dopers, the Bloods, the Crips, and the most dangerous the ”Force you to read Dr Suess” gang. If you don’t speak up and say “this is crap” it will continue to happen. Don’t ban books, ban these worthless idiots.

Going to make a Phone Call

Justice for Ryan Cooper. I think about it every single day. I don’t understand with all the tools law enforcement has why don’t we have someone in custody for this horrible crime. You are missed and loved Ryan. Busch Light Brotherhood (includes the ladies) will never forget you and never stop looking for who is responsible.

It is Veterans Day. What does that mean to you?? Do you think about it?? I’m willing a bunch of people don’t give it a thought. Not those that read my blog because you are patriots and I appreciate every one of you. Keep reading, keep helping others EVERY DAY, and most of all keep making yourself better. Listen to Jim Rohn. I’ve sent his seminar to over 20 people to help them thru hard times.

We are free in this country. I do believe that is an enormous responsibility to not piss it away. In name of ”good” there are individuals willing to trade a little freedom for the easy road. Not me. I will overcome any obstacle and have proven that to myself more times than I can count. You can walk up to a military person and say ”Thank you for your service” and feel good about yourself the rest of the day. Words are crap. Lots of people say lots of things. You want to honor the men and women of the military?? Use your freedom for more than standing on a street corner holding a sign that says ”Poor Me, Life is hard”.

I believe the book ”Lone Survivor” should be mandatory reading for all high school kids. It is the only book I had to put down because I was crying to hard to read. I still remember the moment. I was living at La Jolla Palms in San Diego area, I bawled like hungry baby as I read those words, and relived the battle with author Marcus Luttrell. The bravery and sacrifice these warriors make without question is impossible to repay. Want to thank a Veteran?? Pick up a book. Read about the things these men and women go thru on the battlefield. Work at becoming a better human every single day of your life. You are free to educate yourself in this awesome country.

The four frogmen that went out to find a really bad guy, but 3 goat herders came up on top of them blowing their cover. They were faced with an impossible situation. Kill the herders so they would not be able to alert the massive amount of Taliban fighters very close by. They knew if they killed these unarmed goat herders they would most likely face a court martial. Simply tying them up could cause them to die and then a herd of goats would just be wandering around. The last choice of let them go and get ready for a very bad fight. This is what they did and the bravery is off the charts.

The Taliban fighters came at them fast and relentlessly. A chance to kill some elite American Seals would be very useful in the propaganda machine they used to control the mountain people. I believe the average education there is about 3rd grade level. Intelligent people are harder to control and manipulate. Hmmm if only someone had said the best way to honor the sacrifice made by military people is to educate yourself…. For the record reading the shampoo bottle while you poop does not count. It did not take long for the Seals to get pinned down by the Taliban and stuck without an exit plan. They were in trouble, but had no phone signal from their positions. Insert Lieutenant Michael Murphy.

Mike Murphy is a legend and always will be. He was incredibly respected by his Seal peers and by everyone that knew him. As the ”leader” of the four seals it was on him to get help on the way. He looked at his friends and said I’m going to make a phone call. He left the safety of their cover to get a phone signal. I’ve done this a hundred times, but never with a few hundred enemy fighters surrounding me and constantly shooting AK-47’s at me. He knew what was going to happen and did it anyway. Out in the open he called back to base and told them they were in big trouble and going to die without help. Mike Murphy died making that phone call. On a mountain in Afghanistan fighting for who knows what with rules and regulations that cost lives of wonderful people.

War is horrible. The reality is freaking horrible. Bad things happen. That is why it is called war and not fun. There is a lot more to this story, but I’m going to stop here. If you haven’t read the book make time to do that. It is an important story to know and we as a country owe it to those young men to actually remember. Never forget is a crap meme people put on their Facebook page on Sept 10-12. Don’t be one of those people. Read, educate yourself, and make a positive difference in your community. Pick up trash, play checkers with old people, make sandwiches for homeless people, or anything you think of that will simply make your environment a little better.

We get so caught up in this holiday and that holiday. They are just days like the other 364. Take time every day to make a positive difference. I truly believe the greatest way to honor our Veterans is to have pride in our communities, to educate ourselves and our children about why freedom is so precious, and simply be proud to say ”Fuck yeah! I’m American!!”

More Skills more money

There seems to be a disconnect from them and us on just about everything. It is too bad. Anyone that has had a business knows how hard it is to find good help. Getting someone that actually cares about doing a good job. Someone that won’t steal when the opportunity presents itself. People are just awful sometimes. My younger and much uglier brother just told me about a guy that he hired last week on Thursday. The gentleman said all the right things about wanting to work, physical labor that was required wasn’t a problem, and that a 6 AM start time was no problem. Awesome and he started on Monday morning. Actually he didn’t start Monday. He sent a text at 4 AM saying he couldn’t make it. Who raised this person?? People count on you to be there. Other people aren’t there because you’re expected to be. Two other people wanted the job, but Mr Smooth talker got it only to be a piece of crap 72 hours later.

He isn’t alone as there are too many people on this planet with zero work ethic. The thought of it is so foreign to me that I can’t understand how someone can suck that much. I grew up on a dairy farm where the work never ended. It didn’t slow down or go away. It was always there. There was always something that need to be done. I hated it as a kid. I wanted to be lazy like some of my school peers that only had to take out the trash two nights a week. I’m sure they complained about it as well. As kids we had to milk cows, feed all the livestock (chickens, cows, pigs, and my ugly little brother). Funny note he was so ugly we didn’t realize he wasn’t one of the baby calves for three years. He told me today he didn’t read yesterdays blog, but he did share it. Naturally I have to make fun of him a ton in this blog. The point is we always had to work to do and no one else was going to show up to do it. Even at a young age we were expected to handle things. If we saw something that needed to be done you simply did it. There was no that isn’t my responsibility so I’ll act like it isn’t there, but an attitude of “I’ll do it” without question.

Now this kid can’t even be bothered to show up the first day??? What kind of work ethic is that?? The answer is none. Zero. Parents are to blame in my opinion. You can learn work ethic as a toddler. Being held responsible for cleaning up your own toys, throwing your trash away, and simply picking up a room. Now I’m being told that this guy deserves $15 an hour?? What he deserves is a kick in the ass. Minimum wage is not meant to be a “living” wage. It is what you pay someone without skills, experience, and essentially filling a spot that needs a warm body. That being said once this person shows they are trustworthy, proves they will show up on time when scheduled ready to work, and learning how to be a better worker for your business makes them more valuable. That is how it is supposed to work.

My first “job” was helping a neighbor build a deck when I was 15. I made $3 an hour. I had no idea what I was doing. I was there to hold the other side of the board while it got screwed into place. I was there to dig a hole. Of course I learned from that experience and was able to apply that knowledge at my next job and make more money. I don’t understand how we switched from encouraging people to better themselves in order to make more money to demanding unskilled, unmotivated (not everyone), and untrained people get paid more for simply showing up. An employer hires people to do specific tasks and that is why you get paid. A whole lot of people somehow think that just showing up means you get paid. You are not trading your “time” for a paycheck, but using your skills as a human to help make an employers business better and more profitable.

The employer makes too much money Bucky. Hmm. So working 18 hour days many times to simply break even in the early years, risking everything many times to make your business work, and having the vision to create something is unfair to make more than the employee that shows up with a lip ring they can’t stop messing with for 8 hours a day??? Lip ring guy that is starting with you after quitting the last 6 jobs he had within 2 months. Choices have consequences. You want to call in sick your second week on the job so you can smoke pot with the neighbor girl go for it! It is America and you are free to do that, but don’t go whining to everyone that listens about it not being fair you only make minimum wage. You are the minimum. You don’t give a crap about the job or the business and you get paid accordingly.

Of course there is the woman with 5 kids working at McDonalds making minimum wage that the $15 an hour movement will exploit. Why not put lip ring guy in the spotlight??? I want people to make more money. I want everyone to be a gazillionaire, but to do that takes work. We should encourage people to read books, better themselves, and making themself so flipping valuable the company has to pay you more or lose you to another employer. Neither system is perfect and there will always be something unfair about either path. I will say this. When you out price or over price something (in this case we are talking about human labor) people will look to other options. Computer software and a kiosk work just as well as lip ring guy when ordering a Big Mac. There will be a point that employers just aren’t going to hire people to do these mundane low skill jobs. Many of these positions are being filled by high school kids who are gaining the skills to be a valuable employee.

In our rush to make everyone’s life perfect regardless of who they are or what history they have will open a whole new set of problems. For generations people have gotten the message if you want a bigger paycheck you need to grow your skill set. That is what we want in the world. More educated valued employees that are dedicated to bettering themselves so they have a bigger check every two weeks. There is also the freedom in America to go start your own business. No one is stopping you from doing that. The only person holding you back is yourself because you don’t want to work for free 18 hours a day for the first three years while you try to establish yourself and your business. It takes a lot of work, dedication, and of course risk to become a business owner.

I’m not all the way against raising the minimum wage, but I don’t see this amazing perfect world that everyone can now afford to live. What are they doing now?? Prices of good and services will go up making my dollar less valuable. Low skilled labor will disappear. People that make money creating businesses are not stupid. They will find ways to do business getting the same results without using minimum wage individuals. So what do you do?? I would suggest putting the weed down and picking up a book. There are literal books about how to make more money at your job. I’m willing to bet 99.9% of people earning minimum wage have never read any of them. Why don’t we encourage them to do so?? The only true way to be successful in this country is by educating yourself, working hard at every job you have, leave the poor me attitude at the door. Nobody wants to hear it cause we all got problems.

You can’t wait or rely on the government to make your life better. You can, but you will always be disappointed. I promise you they do not care about you Jill Smith in Pittsburg (totally made up name) and no one from the government is going to show up at your front door with a suitcase full of money saying “Life has been unfair to you, please take this bag of money as our apology.

Just my opinion. It felt great to rant yesterday, but now we are back to being kind to one another.
