EASY COME EASY GO

FRIDAY!! Well for most of us anyway. When I used to snowboard all the time Monday was my Friday, but who cares about that. I recently wrote about gambling and it seems I’m not the only one in this country that has that app on my phone. I have seen so many YouTube videos of steamers and others yelling about how awesome it is to bet it all Plinko balls, slots, blackjack, or put everything you own on black. Let me be very clear about something. That is not awesome and it is absolutely incredibly stupid.

You want to gamble then do it, but…. Learn to gamble on yourself. Make yourself better, read the books, talk to successful people (not only about money), give back by volunteering and helping others, and just concentrate on being a better person. Then your life will double in value. Just like when the roulette wheel stops on Black.

There are lots of sayings that are from forever ago and nobody remembers where they came from. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater is one. WTF does that even mean?? Did someone accidentally throw a baby away one day?? I can think of a few adults I wish would have been…. Just kidding. It is WAY more than a few. Here is one that is way more applicable to today’s message.

Easy come Easy go. Pretty simple. I saw a video of someone that gambled 10K on a roulette table. They won in the video. Good for them. I thought about how hard I work to earn that amount of money and the thought of putting it at such stupid risk made my hands sweat. Now if one of you handed me $10,000 and said “do whatever you want”, I’d have no problem throwing that down on black. I’d scream “LET IT RIDE” if I won because there is no attachment to that money.

Here is the point. When you work for something you take care of it so when in doubt work on yourself. The more you do that the more value you will place on yourself. The more you cherish yourself the more others will begin to cherish you. Things worth having are not easily attained and take hard work. Why not make yourself one of those things?? Get smarter, get stronger, get in shape, be kind to others, volunteer, and if you find a baby laying outside in some bathwater please remember. Someone threw it out for a reason.

Backwards Day

Welcome back!! Those are the words I heard when I woke up in the ICU last May. Crazy to think about how far I’ve come since that day just a few months ago. I was convinced I was going to die, that is what happened, but once again I defied the odds and did not. Staring death in the face used to be a huge deal, but somehow for me it feels more like meatloaf Wednesday. Ha. I use humor to deflect if you haven’t noticed by now.

None of us know what tomorrow will bring. It might be crazy, might be mundane, might be memorable, or it might just be another day that gets lost in the sands of time. I sports bet and have the app on my phone that allows me to bet on cricket games in Ghana. I don’t do that, but I can if I wanted to. I do however bet on NFL games and which player might score a touchdown, what team may win, or a QB that will throw for over 300 yards. I win some, I lose some, but I only bet what I might have spent on a night out when I used to drink. My point is I never actually know what is going to happen until the game is played. No one does.

The future is unscripted. Just waking up each day is a blessing and I choose to look at it that way. We don’t know what is going to happen to us each day, but there is something we can control. There is something we can plan, something we can foresee, something we can predict 100% of the time. To a gambler a prediction that never fails is a prayer answered, a dream come true, a Big Bang Theory blessing that once proven would be worth a fortune!! Now in this blog I’m about to give it to you for free. How can that be Bucky?? I’ll tell you why. It is because I love you.

What is this magic you speak of?? What can I control?? Hold on tight and take a deep breath. Your attitude. BOOM. No matter what happens in your life, you have the ability to control how you react to it, how you accept it, and how you treat others around you during it. Much easier said than done. I’m more guilty than anyone of letting my circumstances and environment control my emotions instead of me taking the reins when needed. I’m not proud of that, but I understand it which allows me to change it. You can’t improve yourself unless you admit you have some flaws. Acknowledging your imperfections isn’t a weakness and should never be looked at as such.

Being aware of your attitude is POWER. Who doesn’t want power?? Try not getting angry today. Try reacting to a situation in the complete opposite way your initial emotions tell you to. Someone takes your parking spot, tell them it is okay, they must be in a huge hurry and very important. See the shame in their face as they realize how selfish they are. Your kid makes a huge mess, don’t yell at them, understand they are probably bored and spend time doing a craft with them. Look I’m all for beating kids any chance you get, but tomorrow they will piss you off again and you can scream at them double loud. For today react backwards and see how your family, your colleagues, and the world reacts to you. You just might be surprised.

Decide to Take a chance

Crazy. Simply crazy on how fast time goes by. It was so slow as a kid, but now I seem to blink and I’m ten years older. I’m sure I’ve told this story before, but it is a great lesson that I hope will motivate a few of you to take some chances. I was talking with my Grandfather one time when I was about 16ish. He had just turned 80 or was about to. He said “I feel like one moment I was 20 years old, then I blinked and I’m 80 years old now. The tone in his voice and look in his eyes told me this was no joke. He simply told me that life is over before you know it. In my mind I thought, I’m not wasting anymore time.

By taking chances I don’t mean put $500 on black at the casino although I have done that. I was on a roulette table in Vegas one night when the number came up black say 8 times in a row which gets posted on the sign. When that happens tons of people start throwing money on red. This time was no different. There was easily $5,000 or so put down on red when this random guy came up and threw $500 on Black. That lone chip on the black with stacks of chips on Red. I looked at the guy and said “that is ballsy!! I said lets play and put $500 up on black with this lone guy. We won. Black 22 which is one of the numbers I bet. That and Red 5. That was cool moment in life.

Life is short so don’t waste time on dumb stuff. It is Christmas. I’m surrounded by family in Alabama and I love it. I truly hope all of you are as well. If you’re not then you should make better plans for next year. When I talk about chances I mean important things. Go back to school and get a degree. Ask the girl out you’ve had a crush on for the last 10 years. Get drunk and text every girlfriend you’ve had since the 3rd grade. Trust me they are waiting by the phone at 3 AM to get that text. This is not an advice column. Apply for a job you want. Move to a new place and get a fresh start. You may need to change your name if your drunk text look like mine…..

That talk with my Grandpa really resonated with me. I decided that I would not waste time on things that I can’t control. I moved to Colorado without ever being there before. I’ve had lots of jobs in my life which I’m proud of. It has helped me learn new things that I never even dreamed about. I’ve moved multiple times as well. I went to San Diego by myself one year after being paralyzed. Ahhh, That stupid accident. I screwed up and pay for it every day of my life. Sucks, but I’m not going to let it determine my value as a human. No way.

When I got to San Diego I worked out at a gym called Project Walk. It was a “rehab” for spinal cord patients. I wanted to walk so badly. I pray you never know how hard this is. I am the strongest human alive. No doubt in my mind on that. The gym had other people in chairs so I made some friends pretty quickly as that is what I do. 3 or 4 days of being in Cali, I was invited to a house party for another project walk guy. I was going in blind. I got the address for the party and wondered what I should do. I looked in the mirror and asked a question that I’ve asked myself thousands of times in the last 20 years. “What would walking Bucky do??”

The answer was clear. Go to the party, be myself, rock the place so anyone that didn’t know me at the start of the night would remember FknBucky forever. That is exactly what I did. You have to manifest your own great moments. No one is going to show up do it for you. Life doesn’t work that way. Muscles are good, but a strong mind is what will enable you to be great. Read the books, learn to listen and think before speaking, and make friends with people that have what you want to be. You want to smoke meth, go make friends with people that smoke meth. You want to make more money, go make friends with meth heads. Ha. Don’t do meth.

Your life is a result of all the decisions you’ve made in life. You can make all kinds of excuses, but that is what it is. If you want your life to change, you simply have to make different decisions. It is that simple. Eat less candy, go to the gym, get a library card, find a successful business owner and buy them lunch, go to work early & stay late, and on and on and on.

Driving Stupid

I got the RAGE. The road is mine. “Get out the way B___!!!” as Ludacris would say. I’m not alone as thousands of videos on youtube show idiots freaking out over driving issues. That in itself is the problem. I drive a lot. More than most people I know. I drive to work as I cover North and South Carolina for a sales territory. I also drive back to the midwest to see family a few times a year. I’ve driven from coast to coast multiple times in my life along with from Canada to Mexico/Gulf. What is the point of that?? Point is I’ve driven a lot. Stop interrupting me.

I see it every day. People out driving that would be better off thrown into a small box and left in the jungle somewhere far far away. Actually that would be a waste. We wouldn’t want that so we put them in a box, cook them in the sun for 5-6 days, and when nice a ripe we feed them to cannibal tribes in Brazil. It is a win win. I see you. I watch your crap car switch lanes. No blinker. No plan. Just you driving like all the other cars are simply obstacles. You can’t be bothered to think about the family in the car you just cut off. You got no time to think about the 52 year old man that is just trying to get home after working a long shift. His wife and kids have no other income as they are living paycheck to paycheck, but you don’t care because you have need for speed.

I watch as you swerve into this lane and that lane. Going up three car lengths to slam on your brakes when you finally see what the rest of us see. Traffic is backed up. Nowhere to go regardless of how many people you cut off. You try to do 85 mph on the freeway when traffic is moving 50 mph. Obviously you are a brain surgeon needing to go save lives in your 2001 Honda Accord. My guess is your meth dealer called and said he will meet you at the truck stop your Mom works at as a Lot Lizard. Yeah I went there.

I watched this happen on the way to the VA yesterday. Two cars could not accept that traffic was heavy. They came on about exit 60 going very fast to merge into traffic that was not going very fast. Both cars had to brake hard to not ram the cars in front of them. 4 lanes of traffic all going the same speed. I like go fast too when traffic is light, but I know when that isn’t happening. We’ve all seen these drivers who are happy to endanger every person around them to get 40 feet further. It is stupid beyond all. If you do this you are STUPID. Both cars exited on Exit 70. 10 miles. They maybe got a 1/4 mile further along than I was.

That quarter mile. What is that in the time of life clock? 10-15 seconds. Heck I’ll even be generous and say they saved a full minute driving recklessly with complete abandon for anyone else on that road at that time. You got away with the swerving, bumper riding, crap selfish driving this time, but what about the next time. It is a habit because you’re STUPID. You do it everyday, multiple times a day, year after year, and somehow you still have the balls to say ”It was an accident” when you cause a wreck and kill someone. Is that 1 minute worth a persons life??

Tell you what. Do me a favor and let me know which person you care about in your life that we can sacrifice so I can start driving like a jerk as well. If you are willing to gamble the lives of people I love so that you can get your precious minute then you got to ante up. Doesn’t sound so cool when you think about it in real life terms. This isn’t Grand Theft Auto where you simply crash, jump out of the car, and steal a new one. There are no extra lives for the people you hit or the people you supposedly love riding in your car. If you drive like this with your kids in the car you are a special sort of STUPID. Not only do you endanger them, but you are teaching the next generation of STUPID.

People die because of drivers like this. Kids, adults, Moms, Dads, and families are ruined for your precious seconds. Seconds. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…. That amount of time cost someone their life by a STUPID driver. Slow down, let that car merge in, enjoy life instead of riding a bumper in front of you screaming at the driver like they care or can hear you. I hate the cars going slow in the passing lane as well, but when traffic is heavy it doesn’t matter. The next time you catch yourself doing these things remind yourself that no amount of time is worth a life. How much are you willing to gamble??
