Change

Hump day!! Que the camel. Those commercials are great. The first time I saw it I thought “this is stupid” and then I was bombarded with it 79 times a day for 3 years straight until I started to yell “HUUUMMMP DAAAY” in the office. We fear change no matter what it is, distrust the unknown, and simply accept what is normal EVEN if it isn’t good for us. Why Bucky? What did I tell you yesterday about asking me questions?? Don’t worry I already forgot too.

Fearing the unknown is in our DNA. We are programmed to just go with what we know. That is why advertisers spend BILLIONS of dollars every year to show you their product over and over again. Insurance agencies (I hate them), food, beer, and on and on do this because they know if they get you to buy just one time you are likely to simply choose their product the next time instead of trying something new. Every thing you do has been calculated, discussed, and agreed upon in a board room somewhere two years before you make that decision. Creepy huh.

I recently heard a quote that has stuck with me and I’m going to share it with you. For free. Don’t worry I don’t expect you to do anything with it. Heck I’m surprised you have spent 45 seconds reading this blog. Please do not panic I assure you that video of puppies licking windows will can be there when you be done getting more smarter by reading this. Yeah I wrote it that way on purpose. Ready for some mind blowing knowledge? “If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it.” Read it again.

When you accept something that means you are choosing it. I accept my salary. I accept my job. I accept my body. I accept my childrens behavior. That means you choose those things. No I don’t Bucky!! I want a better paying job, I want better health, I want my children to not act like a-holes…. You can say those things, but the facts are simple and everyone can see them. If you aren’t actively working to change the things in your life it proves you made the decision you like them the way they are. Yeah, I had to realize I was making crap decisions for myself too, but the revolution came once I had the epiphany that I held the power to improve EVERYTHING.

I just like this picture of Annie from yesterday so I added it. Back to actual blog now….

A simple 15 minute workout. Reading a book for an hour at night instead of watching a Criminal Minds rerun (love that show) for the 9th time. Putting the beer down and spending time with kids doing something constructive instead of leaving them to fend for themselves until bedtime. I’m not a parent, but it doesn’t take a genius to know kids just want you to pay attention to them and will do whatever it takes to get time from you. Why not make it positive is all I’m saying?

If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it. I know you didn’t read it again like I told you so I decided to write it again. It is cool the more I write it the more I will follow my own advice. I write for me and simply decide to share with you. I choose to lead by example in everything I do. I’m most accountable to myself and believe you should do the same. Stop worrying about what other people think because they don’t give a crap about you. In fact they want you to suck. It makes them feel better about their crap decisions. The best thing you can do to get back at anyone that ever doubted you is to succeed and become amazing! I promise that will never happen if you don’t start doing something different.

Ice Cream Satan

Ice cream. I love it. So much. Ben and Jerry’s half baked. Phish food. Hagen Daaz. Bryers Mint chip. Give me some more. I have had the largest cravings for the last couple hours and kept thinking “You’ve been doing so good lately, you deserve a reward…”. Nobody will fault you if you just have a little bite to give you a quick boost…. I say to that “BULLSTUFF!”

I made a goal to do a pull up. I’m going to do that damn pull up even if it kills me. I’d rather die trying to reach that goal than live with a belly full of Caramel Cone.. Okay that is lie. Caramel Cone is eff’ing delicious, but not today Ice Cream Satan.

This is a short blog because I have to run to the store and buy ice cream. Just kidding I don’t run anywhere dummy. Look I’ve made a promise to myself a few months back and I’m not going to let myself down. No one but me would know if I cheated, but I’m the only one that matters in this equation.

The point of this short memo is to let all of you know that I’m out here suffering as well. A good kind of suffer. When I wake up tomorrow I’ll know I powered thru the craving, I’m still firmly on the path to glory, and that will give me the confidence to do another day. You can do whatever it is. Don’t let that stupid ice cream satan voice in your head talk you into deviating from the journey. Success is waiting for you and I to show up. 🙂

There is power in numbers. Comment if you’re with me.

Perfect

What is up?? Let’s get right into today. Being the best. I strive for it in everything I do. I’ve had many people tell me that I’m the type of person that is good at everything I do. Maybe not riding motorcycles, but we can all agree that day sucked. I do however take pride in my work, my play, my ability to think, and all the other things that come about in my life. I believe everyone should think this way. They should take pride in their work, their marriage, their kids, their home, and their body. Ahhh you knew I was going to get there.

I’m on this health kick if you haven’t noticed. My perfection can become a downfall and I have to take notice before it starts to chip away at the progress I have made. I have this tick in my brain that wants all of my activities to be the absolute best every single time, but that has created a mountain that can’t always be climbed. In fact it stops me from even putting on my climbing shoes. I somehow decide if I can’t do it perfectly, I should just not do it. Sounds kinda stupid once I type it out.

I want the weight loss. I want the energy. I want to feel good about myself. I think about working out, but then I have thoughts like I’m tired, I’m not feeling that awesome, I’m this/I’m that, or I’m just being a pansy. If I can’t do my workout like a beast then I should just wait until I feel better. That is quitter mentality. The truth is right there in front of me, but I’m not wanting to see it. This week has been a hard one, but I pushed thru and learned a very important lesson.

Who cares. Who cares if I’m not 100% into the workout every single day. What matters is I complete it. Maybe it takes an extra 22 minutes. Maybe I have to take an extra break here and there. The importance is that I simply DO IT. The mental win is better than “killing it”. My heart fills up with self pride every time I finish no matter how much time it took or how I looked doing it. I know I took another step up that mountain and nobody can stop me from completing the climb. Nobody, but myself that is.

We’ve all heard the slogans. Just do it. Never give up. Keep trying. Blah blah blah. It is all crap if you don’t put your shoes on. If those slogans worked every American would be in shape right now. It is hard to do what I’m currently doing. Way harder than I originally thought, but I don’t care how difficult it is. I’m going to succeed. I weighed myself today and I’m down 8 lbs in a month. I wish it was more, but that will come.

Perfection is the goal, but I had to learn that the path leading to it is filled with imperfections. That is a very deep sentence so instead of telling you to read it again, I’m going to type it out again.

Perfection is the goal, but I had to learn that the path leading to it is filled with imperfections.

Russian Pothead

Got another Pothead back from Russia. Maybe Americans should stop smuggling weed into that country so we don’t have to beg Putin to get them back. Just a thought. Not really my thing for this blog these days, but I will do a quick FknBucky public service announcement: Don’t take weed, marijuana, herb, green, wacky tabacky, or ganja into Russia. Pfffft! Easier said than done says 22 year old Bucky. For the record 22 year old Bucky was so cool.

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about the guy, but I’m happy for him and his family. I traveled in Europe about 10 years ago and I was very aware that I wasn’t in my homeland. I was in a different place with their rules and I’m considered a risk taker by many, but I promise I didn’t F around because I didn’t want to find out. I’m not going to pick on this guy. Haha. Of course I am. Doing drugs is stupid, doing them in other countries with VERY strict laws is really really dumb.

Don’t take weed to Russia. Don’t do heroin in Malaysia because they will kill you. Same with Saudi Arabia, yeah, you get the death penalty for selling drugs there. I made lots of bad decisions growing up and it is what it is. I’m not proud of some of those choices, but they got me to where I am right now today. All things aside I’m alive, mostly healthy, and I have the greatest family along with some of the greatest friends a human could ask for from all over the world. I’m not sure what the title will be at this point because I have no idea where this is going to end up.

Truth is I want to be in the habit of writing everyday. Scratch that I write everyday, but I want to publish everyday. I think it is important to keep me on track. The messages I put in these blogs are my accountability mirror. I read this 50 times by the time I publish it. Think back to the messages in my blogs and now imagine if you read that message fifty times a day. We are what we consume. You are what you eat. Funny joke right, but it is true. Same is true with your mind.

If you listen to songs about drugs, drinking, and sleazy habits all day that is what you will think about. Let’s go on this new obligation journey together. Try listening, reading, and speaking things that are positive and will keep you uplifted throughout the day. I assure you that it works and will make a difference in your daily life. Give it a shot. Or….. Grab some blunts and fly to Russia for the weekend. Twenty-two year old Bucky just might meet you at the airport.

EASY COME EASY GO

FRIDAY!! Well for most of us anyway. When I used to snowboard all the time Monday was my Friday, but who cares about that. I recently wrote about gambling and it seems I’m not the only one in this country that has that app on my phone. I have seen so many YouTube videos of steamers and others yelling about how awesome it is to bet it all Plinko balls, slots, blackjack, or put everything you own on black. Let me be very clear about something. That is not awesome and it is absolutely incredibly stupid.

You want to gamble then do it, but…. Learn to gamble on yourself. Make yourself better, read the books, talk to successful people (not only about money), give back by volunteering and helping others, and just concentrate on being a better person. Then your life will double in value. Just like when the roulette wheel stops on Black.

There are lots of sayings that are from forever ago and nobody remembers where they came from. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater is one. WTF does that even mean?? Did someone accidentally throw a baby away one day?? I can think of a few adults I wish would have been…. Just kidding. It is WAY more than a few. Here is one that is way more applicable to today’s message.

Easy come Easy go. Pretty simple. I saw a video of someone that gambled 10K on a roulette table. They won in the video. Good for them. I thought about how hard I work to earn that amount of money and the thought of putting it at such stupid risk made my hands sweat. Now if one of you handed me $10,000 and said “do whatever you want”, I’d have no problem throwing that down on black. I’d scream “LET IT RIDE” if I won because there is no attachment to that money.

Here is the point. When you work for something you take care of it so when in doubt work on yourself. The more you do that the more value you will place on yourself. The more you cherish yourself the more others will begin to cherish you. Things worth having are not easily attained and take hard work. Why not make yourself one of those things?? Get smarter, get stronger, get in shape, be kind to others, volunteer, and if you find a baby laying outside in some bathwater please remember. Someone threw it out for a reason.

A happy plus

Hello my literate friends. I’ve got the anger right now so I decided to write, but it might not be what you think so please read to the end. I wanted to write a message about Christmas, then New Year’s, and now I realize we are already past one week into 2025. These days fly by without us paying attention. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and then year after year slip by. I’m 46 now. I’m a plus. What is a plus Bucky?? I’ll tell you. Recently I was on Amazon or something and a chart came up. It asked my age. Here are the choices.

18-25, 25-35, 35-45, 45+

I thought WTF when I had to check the plus box. I can deal with the gray hairs, the aches and pains in the AM, the loss of people I love, but marking that box hit me pretty hard. I thought about my goals, my life, my decisions, and all of the moments I could have done differently. Then I got drunk and texted ex-girlfriends until 4 AM. Just kidding. I’m old and only text until Matlock comes on at 9 pm.

The truth is we can’t change the past. Ever. We can learn from our mistakes and try very hard to not repeat them. That is it. No more. I like to read from a book call ZEN FLESH ZEN BONES and I highly recommend everyone on planet EARTH read it as well. There is a story in it about two monks walking down a road in a downpour. They come across a very beautiful young woman walking in a silk kimono that needs to get across a muddy section. One of the monks simply walked over to her, picked her up, carried her across the mud so that she would keep her clothes clean, and then put her down.

The two monks continued on their way without saying a word. Many hours later as they lay down to sleep the monk that didn’t carry the woman finally had to say something. All day he thought about how his friend had touched a woman when they had sworn to NOT do that very thing. He said “Friend, how could you carry that woman knowing our vows??

As he rolled over to fall asleep the other monk replied “I set her down on the side of the road, but it seems you have been carrying her all day.”

How much do you carry around all day?? How much of it is from other peoples actions that have nothing to do with you??? Imagine if you could learn to leave it at the side of the road. We should always be students, learning to be better at life, enabling us to become teachers to the next generation. If you agree with that statement what lessons do you want to teach?? I would like the people around me to become better than I am, to be smarter than I am, more patient than I am, and hopefully more prosperous than I am in all aspects of life.

I will now tell you why I was angry. My van had an oil leak. I’m told it is common with my model of vehicle and it is going to cost me about $1,000. I pay CarShield $89 a month to cover repairs that come up, but now for the second time in 5 years they denied to pay anything. Had I simply put the $89 a month I pay CarShield into an account I would still have $3,193 AFTER I paid for the repairs needed.

Instead I’ve paid them $5,340, paid auto repair workers $2,147, and have the same result. I’ve cancelled my policy with them this morning and just set up an auto pay out of my account into a new “auto” savings account. Lesson learned. This was an expensive one, but I promised myself not to carry it around with me all day. I’m going to leave it here. It isn’t going to hurt CarShield if I run around town telling everyone how horrible of a day I’m having because of this event. Nope.

I’m going to tell everyone I’m doing great. I caught the leak early before any serious damage was done. AWE AUTO in Traer, IA was able to get my van fixed in a very reasonable amount of time and for a very fair price. Live is good. I have an amazing family, a ton of awesome friends, an amazing furry best friend, a business of my own, my health is great, and on and on and on. So this PLUS is going to smile today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the year. I hope you find reasons to smile with me.

That one thing

Short, tall, rich, poor, white, black, American, Brazilian, or anything else you can think of to describe what we all are. They are simply labels, but the truth when it is broken down, we are all humans. Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever party you choose to be a part of again we are the same. Only our minds are different. That thing inside your head that grows with you year after year. Each experience you have makes a notch in it creating who you are right now. Somewhere along the way a person cared enough about you to make sure you learned how to read otherwise you would be playing candy crush level 4,384 instead of reading this blog. You should call and thank them.

I have a point to this so hang on. People with less actually are able to appreciate the topic I’m writing about. The thing we all have regardless of who we vote for. The thing that so many humans forget to appreciate on a daily basis. We spend each day chasing a dollar, working for the man, being annoyed by those around us, and forgetting the best thing in each of us. What could that be? Simple and it is only one word. Blessings.

We all have them. Are you dry? Cool?? Do you have something to eat today?? It may not be steak and lobster, but if you have a full belly then you are blessed. You may not have a 23 bedroom mansion, but are you in the rain?? I don’t have air conditioning Bucky. Hmmmm. Do you have a fan? Blessing. I don’t have a fan Bucky. Hmmm. Got a window?? If the answer is no then you’re in jail. If you’re in jail stop wasting time reading this and go get a book. Start with this one. How to stop committing crimes for Dumbasses.

I wasn’t going to write this evening, but Annie kept shoving this darn football onto my lap. I was annoyed with her, but then it hit me that instead of annoyed I should feel blessed she wants to hang out with me. Instead of being annoyed with your family after a long week remember how blessed you are to have them. Close your eyes, imagine life without them, take ownership of that feeling, and then remember it every time you begin to be annoyed.

It is proven that people in poor countries are genuinely happier simply because they haven’t been tainted with all the BS some of us have been. They don’t compare their life with a fake family on TV. Instead they care about each other and appreciate the things they do have. I make a point to do that everyday, I always feel better about what I have today, and it reminds me to appreciate everyone I’ve met along the way. Thank you to everyone that has blessed my life.

Feel blessed right now. Be a shame to not be happy with a full belly.

Scott Wood Photo (Amazing)

Beauty. Funny word. Means many different things to just about everyone. What is beautiful to you?? A view? A woman? A man? A car? Truck? An experience? All of them? For me it is very simple. A look in the mirror. I’m one beautiful human. Life hasn’t been an easy path for me and it hasn’t been for you either, but we all must work at keeping our confidence. If you don’t work at it who will do it for you? I promise the world will only try to kill your confidence not help grow it. Surround yourself with people that only have your best interest in mind or life becomes unnecessarily harder.

I was playing frisbee with Annie the other day and saw a walking stick crawling across the cement floor of this little shack we use for shade at the park. I can’t remember ever seeing one in the “wild” before, but I was enamored with it. Maybe I was jealous of that darn stick that can walk…. Haha It was gorgeous and I couldn’t stop watching it slowly crawl across the floor to nowhere. Just endless cement, but it didn’t know that because it could only see/sense what is right in front of it. I could see the path he was traveling was a futile one so I kept trying to steer it another way, but that darn stubborn stick fought me no matter what I did. I remember thinking this must be how God or Big Bang Theory feels watching me live my life.

Sometimes the most inspirational things are complete surprises to us, but we must be patient enough to see them. Learning to me is beautiful. I simply love to learn anything new and watching that bug taught me lessons I had no idea I needed when I woke up that morning. I moved it off the cement into some rocks, but then thought it was a stick not a rock so that was no good. I grabbed a twig and it crawled onto it almost immediately so I rolled about 50 feet away into some wood chips. I found a small tree, put that walking stick onto a branch, and watched it for a couple minutes. It only took about 30 seconds for uncoordinated idiot to fall off. Kind of like me.

It didn’t hit the ground though. A small strand of something came out of its butt, it hung about 4 inches from the branch, and I was about to “save” it when something remarkable happened. It started to climb up this string that came out of it. As it blew around in the wind that darn bug got closer and closer to the branch I put it on until it made it back to safety. I had been in awe of this creature for 20 minutes and thought it had no more beauty to see, but like many times in my life I was wrong.

There is more beauty inside yourself if you just take the time to see it. Once you can see it, then and only then, can the world see it.

The light (the dark -part 2)

Yesterday I talked about being the “dark”, a place that I go alone when I’m angry and feel cheated by life. Truth is I’m not cheated by anything. I chose to ride a motorcycle 22 years ago in horrible conditions when I wasn’t experienced enough to be doing so which resulted in me wrecking and becoming paralyzed. I pay for that decision 24/7 – 365 and will do so for the rest of my life no matter what happens. Prison isn’t even that harsh, my sentence was instant with no jury, and I have zero chance at parole. I accept all of that because it simply is the reality I have.

I didn’t plan to say all that, but it just came out. I just type what my brain thinks and that that is what you get to read when I post these. When I’m in the “dark” as I call it I don’t spend the time sitting in a corner feeling sorry for myself. I simply can’t and you shouldn’t either. I work. I spent time cleaning my bedroom, bathroom, and living room this past weekend while being very aware of how much time I was up in my wheelchair. The pressure sore dictates that, but I also swapped out my cushion for a heavier, but much better one for skin care which I should have done 4 weeks ago, but I never thought about it. Again I accept responsibility for the problems I face.

Blaming nurses, doctors, or the hospital in my case only leads to anger and frustration which makes solving my hardship nearly impossible. You can always find someone to point the finger at. How many problems do you solve while angry??? Well besides silencing a crap talker. Man I miss punching deserving people in the face. You can also go to a punk rock shows for 2 hours of mosh pit madness to release a lot of aggression. One time we actually fought the band once at the Ogden in Denver. That was an awesome show I saw with two Daves, a Skot, and Uncle John Jameson. Anyway. Violence is bad or something.

Here is the ultimate point. Do something. Keep moving no matter how slow it is. I fixed my wheelchair while in bed leaning to the side staying off my skin. I could have been crying, cursing (still was just at the chair instead of God and Big Bang Theory), or trying to ruin other people’s weekend because I was having a hard time. That would have been completely pointless and stupid. I have wanted to fix a bracket on my chair for months, but couldn’t find or make the time. It took me HOURS, but I finally got it perfect and makes I’m so darn happy. I didn’t plan that. It just became because I just kept doing.

The light doesn’t just show up. Nope. There is always work involved. Luckily I learned as a kid that work was good, setbacks are normal, and I had to rely on myself before crying to others. If you work even a tiny tiny bit the light will come. The strength will come. Each time the strength grows. The confidence grows. The happiness grows. Wait for it….. YOU GROW!!

The dark

What do we do when the mood is less than great?? When we don’t have a perfect photo to put up on IG or X?? When our friends are doing something cooler than we are??? When our health is hurting and it affects the happiness we wish we could find for the day?? The world tells us to make lemonade. We are told to suck it up and get back out there. FknBucky writes often about finding ways to make other people smile because that smile will come back. Today Bucky says sometimes you have to embrace the dark.

I’m not telling anyone to embrace depression and stay there. That is a very bad idea, but sometimes you have to experience the dark to remember how much you love being in the light. Nobody is “UP” all of the time, no matter how much cocaine you do. Just ask Elmo. My kidney was so infected it killed me the first week of May. I’m used to almost dying so I don’t have the “I’m going to live like no tomorrow BS” anymore and truthfully always have, but it is a good reminder to keep chasing my goals. I had that jerk kidney taken out a couple weeks ago. I was so hopeful for sunny skies and to be back after it again that I had a list of things to get after. Instead life kicked me in the nuts and the face just in case I didn’t get the message. I discovered a pressure sore on my butt.

My happiness deflated instantly. My family all had great plans for this weekend, but not me. I’m still healing from the kidney surgery with literal open wounds and now this pressure sore. I don’t want to say I was in “poor me” area, but more of an “Eff everyone else” area. My phone went to VM (I don’t listen to them FYI) and I had a couple pissed off days. I needed to accept this in my mind, formulate a plan to fix my problems, and then come out with a true I will over come this attitude. I will get this to heal and accepted my role in allowing it to happen. We all have to understand that spending some time in the darkness even on 4th of July weekend if needed be isn’t a bad thing.

This isn’t an easy thing to share, but I promised to be honest with everyone that reads this. I don’t share to hear the comments of “you can do it, you got this, or the stay strong”….. While those are not bad and needed sometimes, I’d rather hear/see “me too Bucky, I understand this, and glad I’m not alone” so that others can feel safe embracing the dark, but remember to not get lost there. You must come back out into the light and trust me you will feel stronger and refreshed. Being depressed/angry at hard times is natural, but those feelings will never solve the hard times. For that you need positivity, strength, and loved ones around you.
