RIP DMX

Hello blog readers! It is Monday. Fresh start. We will get to an amazing dog story here, but first I’d like to take a moment to remember DMX. I actually met him while in LA a little over 10 years ago. I drove up to Hollywood to try out for last comic standing. I was kicked out because I can’t stand. That is not even kinda true, but in this believe everything world go ahead and run with that. Ha. It rained HARD the entire drive up from San Diego which is obviously not the norm for Southern CA. I was on the elevator and noticed a couple walking towards the elevator. I didn’t see who it was until he and his woman were in the elevator. I had just held the elevator for DMX. Mind you this was when he was very famous.

I talked about the stupid rain and a couple other brief things that had nothing to do with him being DMX. We got to their floor and off they went with me wishing them a good night. I thought it was a cool thing and was looking forward to telling my friends about it. The next morning I went down to the lobby and there was DMX with about 4-5 other people. He was trying to fly one of those cheap remote control helicopters that were popular at that time. I’m not into bothering people just to say I did so I let him be. To my surprise he actually came up to me and introduced himself as X.

He was just a cool guy. We talked for about 10 minutes while I waited for my car to come up. My car never came. Turns out it had a flat tire in the parking garage. That was a bummer. You know I forgot about the flat tire part of that trip. Oh well it happens. I pride myself on being able to read people when I meet them. I can usually tell if I’m going to like someone within a few moments. I’m not as good as women when it comes to this as they know within 4.87 seconds if they will sleep with a guy upon meeting him. That whole first impression thing. Anyway I found DMX to be genuine and I thought it was pretty cool for him to leave his people behind to come talk with me for a few minutes. I honestly don’t remember what we talked about mainly because it didn’t matter. We were just a couple of guys bullshitting about anything and everything.

He left in a hurry though when I asked to borrow money. Okay that didn’t happen. We are still in Dog Week so I gotta bring this full circle yet. I did some reading about X the last couple days and turns out he had a tough time growing up. His real father was nonexistent and his Moms taste in men was simply put “Crap”. These men she brought into their lives were not good men. Each one treating DMX worst than the one prior. Turns out he spent a lot of time in the streets of New York. When he was young the Yonkers part of NYC was not a nice place to be. For a teenager to be out in those streets night after night had to be extremely hard.

It is said that he would befriend stray dogs finding food in dumpsters to give the dogs. Their loyalty and friendship was never in question. He was right. A lot of people find salvation in animals. They don’t judge, they don’t worry about bad decisions in your past, and they just want to make you happy. It is so genuine that anyone that could hurt them in anyway has no heart and is most certainly evil. I don’t know if you can come back from that. Michael Vick was a flipping psycho and the things he was found to be guilty of made my stomach turn. I hope for his soul he really did change inside.

I didn’t “know” DMX. I did meet him and have a 10 minute conversation with the guy. I liked him, but I tend to like everyone until you give me a reason to not like you. I look for the good in others. Everyone I meet I just assume they are one friend away from being great. I could be that friend. Think about that. You could too. All you have to do is say hello. Remind people that they are not alone on this life journey. It means more to people than you know. Ever had a complete stranger improve your day. I have and I look for opportunities everyday to do that for others. Get ready to have your mind blown!

Dogs do that naturally. It is in their DNA. They will run up to a stranger and beg to be petted. Ever seen a sad person petting a dog?? Nope it is an instant smile machine. I have a feeling that is what teenage DMX found in these stray dogs. We came up a step from yesterday. You don’t have to sniff a butt to be dog like, you simply have to find a way to make a stranger smile. Be that one friend that gets them over the hump. You’ll surprise yourself at how great you can be even when you’re not getting credit for it.

Be kind to each other, be kind to animals, and find ways to make the world smile. That is the secret formula to a fulfilling life.

***Some articles talked about DMX being involved in Dog Fights. I truly hope this was not the case. I didn’t see anything that was actual proof and in America you are innocent until proven guilty.***

Happy Birthday Annie and Dog Week/Day One

Happy Saturday my friends. Yesterday as some of you saw on FB was Annabel’s 1st birthday. If you do not know who Annabel is, she is my border collie puppy that I’m so so blessed to have. In honor of her 1st year of life I am going to write a blog everyday for the next week focusing on awesome dog stories. I love these amazing friends so much. I haven’t had kids and don’t think I will although I refrain using the word never. I am a pretty awesome dog Dad and my Uncle abilities are second to no one. I truly love kids as they are the future and seeing the world thru a 6 year olds eyes is simply the best. We get all wrapped up in our adult BS drama many times forgetting to just play make believe for a few minutes.

I lost Murphy who just about everyone on the planet knew. She was amazing and taught me so much about myself, life, and I’m not kidding when I say she most likely saved my life. Life can be extremely difficult and sometimes a paw on the knee with some kind eyes staring at you saying lets go outside and throw a ball make all the stress melt away. If you haven’t had a dog friend in your life, I assure you that you’re missing something special and I hope you find one soon.

To start this week of dog awesomeness I have a quick story about Annabel. I have posted a few videos of her completely going crazy over cardboard boxes. I get packages almost everyday for one reason or another. When she was tiny tiny I would encourage her to chew up empty boxes. She loves it and it still makes me laugh every time she tears into one.

When she was little little I was watching her eye something from her little dog bed. The dog bed was about 6” tall so she had to “jump” down as she was only 6” tall at the time. Her prey was a cardboard box that happened to be sitting to close to this ferocious beast. I watched Annie jump off her bed, charge this box, and then go inside of this box while she pushed it across the floor. She was gaining speed across my cement floor when she had a very sudden stop running into the base of my steel standing frame. She bounced back and looked a little dazed from the head butt. Puppy vs steel bar only has one winner. As I witness this chaos Annie decides that it was the box that had caused her pain. You simply must watch the below video.

https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0ZsNC99A_hX9PWryFXVg6CDrw

She got up with a look of “must kill” and attacked that box. If you haven’t seen a 10 week old puppy go full on Rambo on a cardboard box you simply haven’t lived. She was so mad at that stupid box. It is one of my favorite memories now and I think about that every time she starts attacking a box. Life isn’t about how big of a house you have, how new your car is, or how much money you have. At least it isn’t in my opinion which means nothing. Agree or disagree I don’t actually care. I don’t waste time worrying about what other people think about me.

Remember to be present for things right now. Don’t stress about things you can’t control. I know these are easier said than done, but if you make conscious choices to limit the amount of time you stress out on things you will reprogram yourself to let it all go.

Happy Birthday Annabel. Thank you for making my life so much better.

Thank you and remember to do random acts of kindness.

Pick Your Lane (Mine has Pie)

I’ve been MIA for a couple weeks. I had to take a step back as the world of negativity was creeping into my life. Thank goodness all I have to do is turn the channel, not visit news websites, and simply let it go. Not always easy to do, but at the end of the day it is that simple. Once this COVID thing started being a ginormous pain in the butt I started to cook/bake things simply to see if I could do it. I love to challenge myself by doing things I’ve never done before. The first item was an apple pie from scratch. I love apple pie so it just made sense. I learned to make pie dough from scratch which is way easier than I thought it would be. Time consuming, but easy. Then I found a recipe online I liked and went after it. I did burn my mouth licking the whisk which I managed to record and then put on FB. Hey if you can’t laugh at yourself, you’re doing life completely wrong. I believe the link below will take you to Bucky burn land. You’re sick in the head if you want to see me in pain!! Haha

https://share.icloud.com/photos/0ngpkL8zNKAhKvZD5_cvVU4kw

Once I knew how to make pie dough I realized I can use it to make my own chicken pot pies. I bought the mini pie pans and boom this turned out super well also. I always chop up fresh veggies like carrots, onions, and celery to put in whatever I’m making. I have the time and it just makes everything taste better. Here I am now an Apple pie champ, mini pot pies in my freezer ready to go anytime, and I need a new project. A neighbor girl mentioned she likes cheesecake. Hmmm I like cheesecake too, so here we go. Find recipe…

My first attempt was blueberry cheesecake. When I was getting ready to put the mixture in the pie pan, I remembered my mini pans. Mini cheesecakes. Genius. I went this route. There is an overall point to this blog today and I’m about to get to it. I made blueberry, raspberry, and Oreo cookie cheesecakes now and once again they taste awesome. Somewhere along the way I wanted to learn how to make caramel as well which turned out to not be that hard. You need to stay focused and pay attention to it, but not difficult once you understand how sugar melts. Very similar to heroin if you are an intravenous drug user. I made that up. Just making sure you are still paying attention.

If you have read my blog before you know I encourage people to do random acts of kindness. It is something I strive to do every day of my life while never expecting anything in return. A kind word or a thank you is more than enough. Over the weekend I made blueberry & raspberry cheesecakes. An idea I had a while ago was to use the homemade caramel and put it on the bottom of the cheesecake so it will cook into the graham crackers making a caramel crust. It worked. I also put a ring of caramel around the top crust that would melt down the sides giving all the crust a caramel flavor. That worked also. They are stupid good.

I also make a chicken tortilla soup from scratch that is very popular with my friends and family. I made a ginormous batch of it over the weekend for a purpose. On Monday I was going to the VA Hospital for an eval with a Veteran. Eval just means we look at his challenges, lifestyle, and environment so we can get him the correct equipment for his life. I do this a lot with my work and I love it. Knowing I was going to be there on Monday I thought it would be cool to take a bunch of soup and cheesecakes for the staff. All that practice now had a purpose.

All those pots are filled with soup. The Copper one has tofu instead of chicken for my Vegan friends. No one asked me to do this. Certainly no one expected me to show up with a ton of homemade food. I just like to challenge myself making things that are on my list of favorite foods and then share them. So that is what I did. I did get some very kind messages back today which again make it all worth it.

Examples:

  1. OH MY!!!!  LOVED IT!!! I am not there today and I was thinking it would be worth it to go in so I can have some more of the soup!   It was absolutely wonderful- the flavor was magnifico! Thank you so much and the avocado was so good with it. Oh and yes the cheese cake – well that was just evil because I am really trying not to have sugar and sweets and I couldn’t resist it and that just blew that!  Thank you!
  2. Oh my Goodness!  I planned my response in my head, but I forgot to send it.  It was wonderful.  I mean simply wonderful-as in you have a gift!!!   Oh my God!

If you are not purposely working to send out good vibes on a daily basis then you are part of team negative. I’m by no means a perfect human. I’m very far from it, but I have learned in my 42 years that I feel better about myself the more positive things I do. Allowing myself get caught up with the negative BS that is on the news everyday, listening to people complain all day, and letting stress to dictate my mood make me feel like crap. So at this point in my life I can only think “Why in the ____ would I want to choose the feel like crap lane??? No thank you. I’m going to live my best life, keep doing random kind things, and actively work to make my world a better place which will by default make the entire world a better place.

What lane are you in??? What lane do you want to be in?? No blinkers needed, no jerk calling your Mom names, and most importantly no matter how long you’ve been in the wrong lane, the right one has unlimited space and you can go as fast as you want!!!!

Choose positive my friends and lets change the world one act of kindness at a time.

FknBucky

P.S. There in free pie and cheesecake in the Bucky lane. Just stop on by anytime!!

More Skills more money

There seems to be a disconnect from them and us on just about everything. It is too bad. Anyone that has had a business knows how hard it is to find good help. Getting someone that actually cares about doing a good job. Someone that won’t steal when the opportunity presents itself. People are just awful sometimes. My younger and much uglier brother just told me about a guy that he hired last week on Thursday. The gentleman said all the right things about wanting to work, physical labor that was required wasn’t a problem, and that a 6 AM start time was no problem. Awesome and he started on Monday morning. Actually he didn’t start Monday. He sent a text at 4 AM saying he couldn’t make it. Who raised this person?? People count on you to be there. Other people aren’t there because you’re expected to be. Two other people wanted the job, but Mr Smooth talker got it only to be a piece of crap 72 hours later.

He isn’t alone as there are too many people on this planet with zero work ethic. The thought of it is so foreign to me that I can’t understand how someone can suck that much. I grew up on a dairy farm where the work never ended. It didn’t slow down or go away. It was always there. There was always something that need to be done. I hated it as a kid. I wanted to be lazy like some of my school peers that only had to take out the trash two nights a week. I’m sure they complained about it as well. As kids we had to milk cows, feed all the livestock (chickens, cows, pigs, and my ugly little brother). Funny note he was so ugly we didn’t realize he wasn’t one of the baby calves for three years. He told me today he didn’t read yesterdays blog, but he did share it. Naturally I have to make fun of him a ton in this blog. The point is we always had to work to do and no one else was going to show up to do it. Even at a young age we were expected to handle things. If we saw something that needed to be done you simply did it. There was no that isn’t my responsibility so I’ll act like it isn’t there, but an attitude of “I’ll do it” without question.

Now this kid can’t even be bothered to show up the first day??? What kind of work ethic is that?? The answer is none. Zero. Parents are to blame in my opinion. You can learn work ethic as a toddler. Being held responsible for cleaning up your own toys, throwing your trash away, and simply picking up a room. Now I’m being told that this guy deserves $15 an hour?? What he deserves is a kick in the ass. Minimum wage is not meant to be a “living” wage. It is what you pay someone without skills, experience, and essentially filling a spot that needs a warm body. That being said once this person shows they are trustworthy, proves they will show up on time when scheduled ready to work, and learning how to be a better worker for your business makes them more valuable. That is how it is supposed to work.

My first “job” was helping a neighbor build a deck when I was 15. I made $3 an hour. I had no idea what I was doing. I was there to hold the other side of the board while it got screwed into place. I was there to dig a hole. Of course I learned from that experience and was able to apply that knowledge at my next job and make more money. I don’t understand how we switched from encouraging people to better themselves in order to make more money to demanding unskilled, unmotivated (not everyone), and untrained people get paid more for simply showing up. An employer hires people to do specific tasks and that is why you get paid. A whole lot of people somehow think that just showing up means you get paid. You are not trading your “time” for a paycheck, but using your skills as a human to help make an employers business better and more profitable.

The employer makes too much money Bucky. Hmm. So working 18 hour days many times to simply break even in the early years, risking everything many times to make your business work, and having the vision to create something is unfair to make more than the employee that shows up with a lip ring they can’t stop messing with for 8 hours a day??? Lip ring guy that is starting with you after quitting the last 6 jobs he had within 2 months. Choices have consequences. You want to call in sick your second week on the job so you can smoke pot with the neighbor girl go for it! It is America and you are free to do that, but don’t go whining to everyone that listens about it not being fair you only make minimum wage. You are the minimum. You don’t give a crap about the job or the business and you get paid accordingly.

Of course there is the woman with 5 kids working at McDonalds making minimum wage that the $15 an hour movement will exploit. Why not put lip ring guy in the spotlight??? I want people to make more money. I want everyone to be a gazillionaire, but to do that takes work. We should encourage people to read books, better themselves, and making themself so flipping valuable the company has to pay you more or lose you to another employer. Neither system is perfect and there will always be something unfair about either path. I will say this. When you out price or over price something (in this case we are talking about human labor) people will look to other options. Computer software and a kiosk work just as well as lip ring guy when ordering a Big Mac. There will be a point that employers just aren’t going to hire people to do these mundane low skill jobs. Many of these positions are being filled by high school kids who are gaining the skills to be a valuable employee.

In our rush to make everyone’s life perfect regardless of who they are or what history they have will open a whole new set of problems. For generations people have gotten the message if you want a bigger paycheck you need to grow your skill set. That is what we want in the world. More educated valued employees that are dedicated to bettering themselves so they have a bigger check every two weeks. There is also the freedom in America to go start your own business. No one is stopping you from doing that. The only person holding you back is yourself because you don’t want to work for free 18 hours a day for the first three years while you try to establish yourself and your business. It takes a lot of work, dedication, and of course risk to become a business owner.

I’m not all the way against raising the minimum wage, but I don’t see this amazing perfect world that everyone can now afford to live. What are they doing now?? Prices of good and services will go up making my dollar less valuable. Low skilled labor will disappear. People that make money creating businesses are not stupid. They will find ways to do business getting the same results without using minimum wage individuals. So what do you do?? I would suggest putting the weed down and picking up a book. There are literal books about how to make more money at your job. I’m willing to bet 99.9% of people earning minimum wage have never read any of them. Why don’t we encourage them to do so?? The only true way to be successful in this country is by educating yourself, working hard at every job you have, leave the poor me attitude at the door. Nobody wants to hear it cause we all got problems.

You can’t wait or rely on the government to make your life better. You can, but you will always be disappointed. I promise you they do not care about you Jill Smith in Pittsburg (totally made up name) and no one from the government is going to show up at your front door with a suitcase full of money saying “Life has been unfair to you, please take this bag of money as our apology.

Just my opinion. It felt great to rant yesterday, but now we are back to being kind to one another.

Left Out….

Monday. I hope everyone is excited to tackle a new week. If you find yourself dreading the work week then it is time to start looking at how to make some changes. I’m going to say some mind blowing stuff right now so hang on tight. YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE. One. As in ONE. Here is the real kicker. None of us know how long the ride last. Due to ZERO fault on your part, your life could be done in a few hours. A few days. Heck a few years. I was blessed in the fact that I understood this at an early age. I didn’t give a F&$# what people thought about me because I woke up everyday ready to do life the way I wanted. Mind you I didn’t steal things because thieves are scum and I went out of my way to bring everyone along for the ride. I actively looked for the people usually left out so I could bring them in. I know that feeling of left out and it sucks. I truly believe you have to experience things to understand them. Maybe that is my life. I’m supposed to help others get off the bench and into the game of life. I don’t care what happens to me, I will never ride the pine.

I am reminded of a time back in the snowboarding days. Sorry I know I keep going back to this well, but I miss it. So much. Not being able to snowboard is the one thing that truly makes me so sad about the accident. It was mine. It was my meditation, my sanctuary, and my forever love. Only people that have lived that lifestyle understand how precious those moments are. I do remind myself I was lucky enough to have had the times I did. The friends that I made were more like family. We are all spread out now and most of them have kids, real jobs, and been domesticated as that is what you do. I do however know for a fact every once in a while they like me look to the sky and say a quiet thank you. We had those times that no one can ever take away from us. The flaming rail slides in my backyard, the Pantera mosh pit at 3 AM in the Leadville house, the first chair on powder days, the beers in the afternoon paid for by the green card, and the thousands of other memories I cherish. It was during this time a moment happened that I think of from time to time.

You don’t have to have special powers to be super hero to others. My real name is Allen. Some of you probably didn’t know that so boom mind blown moment. Many people ask me why the nickname Bucky. I almost never tell. The way it started was me seeing Bronson Pinchot on the Tonight show. He played Balki on the TV show perfect strangers. He said that the name Balki was a nickname he had been given while in elementary school. When asked why he got that nickname he smiled to himself and said no way was he telling. I never wanted to know something so badly. Hence from then forward I didn’t tell. Still don’t so if you are one of the trusted who know the secret, stay trusted and keep your mouth shut. The guessing is actually my favorite part. People come up with some wild stories. Makes me laugh.

There was a kid name Billy John Tom (BJT and absolutely not the real name) that worked at the mountain. He was a super nice kid, but he had a smell about him. I don’t know why and didn’t ask him. He had a massive heart and was down to help anyone anytime. I felt bad that he was alienated by his peers, but lucky for me I could help. I was popular. People looked up to me on the mountain. I’m not being arrogant just being real. I was good looking, confident, funny, and I was a pretty good snowboarder. I was also broke as F&$# every day so I had to be funny to get girls. My man BJT was not those things. Almost daily the subject of where Bucky came from would come up and people would make crazy guesses. Obviously none of them were close to the truth. It became more of a game than people actually wanting to know I believe, but again the mystery part of it made it fun.

One night after work I was having a few beers (like 40 probably) with a beautiful girl from Columbia (the Country), and my guy BJT was there. Maybe one day I’ll write a blog about the girl and her roommate. Or maybe not. The subject of the nickname came up and I decided right there I was going to tell BJT the truth. I asked him to keep it to himself which he did, but from that moment on he knew something nobody else did. He was “in” a small group and felt welcomed. He felt like he belonged. I am good at reading people and knowing (most times) what to say to make them feel better about themselves. First of all to do this you can’t lie. Whatever you tell someone to lift them up must be true or it will only cause more hurt. Lying is never the right option. I was still pretty young in those days, and I’m not sure what made me want to tell BJT the secret. I never regretted doing so.

He never told a soul what my secret was and I couldn’t buy a more loyal friend. He knew I didn’t have to tell him, but I did out of kindness and he appreciated it. I bet if I become famous and someone offered him $100,000 dollars to tell the story there is a good chance he would turn it down. Mainly because my other crap bag friends would do it for $11.47 which makes them pricks. The $.47 is a shout out to my favorite transgender friend that reads this blog.

Look for the person that feels left out and then find a way to get them in. It will make you feel great to do and just might change someone’s life in the process. You don’t know someone’s history and everyone at the end of the day simply wants to be part of the group, to be accepted, and just have friends. I’ve always told myself that I’ll be that friend and do all I can to make sure someone isn’t left out. You don’t have to travel around the globe to make a difference in the world. Sometimes you can make a difference in the room you’re currently standing in.

Do kind things.

You Hungry??

I just got an order of groceries dropped off at my door. Pretty amazing. I go onto the website pick the items I want and two hours later there is a knock at the door. When I open the door there is no person just bags of food. I actually don’t mind going to the grocery store, but it is much more convenient to have someone else do it and drop it off. I have been blessed in my life to be able to afford food. Not a day or meal goes by that I don’t say a small message of thank you. It wasn’t always that way I’ve been hungry before with no options to fix it. It is a brutal thing being hungry. I’m not talking about the funny kind you have cause no women are home to make you a sandwich, but the real kind when your insides feel like they are starting to eat each other. The physical torment is bad enough, but the mental aspect of feeling less than, feeling neglected by a world, and simply wondering if it will ever change is unbearable. If I had one wish it would be that no one ever feels that way again.

I have heard many people express feelings about God and say how could a God let so many go hungry?? I have often wondered such a thing, but I heard a preacher say one time. Why are people hungry?? Is there not enough food on the planet to feed them all?? That statement resonated with me. There is more than enough food produced in the world to feed everyone, but yet many go without. Why is that??? How is it so hard for neighbors to get along that one of them might actually go hungry while the other finds new ways to waste the extra they have??? I don’t lay blame on any one person or thing when it comes to this. My opinion is simply there hasn’t been enough people asking the question “Why are there still hungry people??” Some of these people make life choices that put them in the hungry category. Choices have consequences so make good ones.

I will make this promise though. If anyone asked me to buy them groceries I would stop whatever I am doing and go buy them food immediately. No questions asked and no need to thank me or promise to repay. I will not give you cash. If my money is going to be spent on booze and drugs I’m going to do them. Alright back on topic. Going to sleep every night with food in my belly is my reward and every person should know that feeling daily. Kids should never go hungry. There were times in my childhood that I just didn’t know when I was going to eat again. I was never in real danger of dying of hunger, but even going a couple days without food sucks. I could have asked for food, but I was way to proud. Pride is a very tall wall to get over sometimes. No kid should be hungry, but I tell you what the kids that know this feeling grow up grateful. If you have never been real hungry in your life I don’t know how you can understand gratitude.

A friend of mine back in my snowboarding days would talk of his Uncle. At least I think it was his Uncle. We smoked a lot of pot back then and it might have been his neighbors cat he was always bitching about, but whatever we talking about hunger today. His Uncle would welcome people in and always ask them if they are hungry?? If they are warm??? Are they good??? If the answers to these questions were yes he would say “Good you have all you need in life.” I love it. That freaking cat was smart. When is the last time you checked if someone had enough food in their stomach?? If they were warm and safe?? Probably never. Still think it is God’s fault people are hungry??

We do a lot as a country. We have literally millions of tons of food donated every year by Americans to help stop the hunger world wide. If you aren’t proud of that, next time take three extra minutes to buy a couple extra progreso soups to put in the donation box so you can feel good about yourself. It is a start and that is all we can ask for. Imagine if every man and woman in America donated two cans of soup. Hungry people everywhere would learn to hate progreso soup so maybe throw some Mac and cheese in the box once in a while. Yes it has to be Kraft. The other kinds suck. What kind of monster donates store brand Mac and cheese??

I finally was able to go a couple days keeping my fat ass planted in my chair so I can talk about something other than flopping around on the floor for an hour. I still think that was a message I was supposed to address and honestly I did learn or remind myself that hardships in life can come two days in a row. There is no time frame for crap to come. Can you imagine half way over the “not fair Gods” intervene and stop me from falling backwards while yelling “We got him yesterday!! He isn’t due for another 48 hours!”. Hahaha. Followed by “Hey one of you ladies make him a sandwich. He looks hungry!” I literally laughed out loud at my own joke there. Relax everyone this blog is an ”offended free zone“ which means crack a smile, appreciate what you have daily, and learn to come up with witty comebacks. It is more fun than being pissed off all the time. Oh and put some mayo on my sandwich.

This subject has been on my mind for a couple of days. I heard the God thing about allowing people to be hungry. I don’t know how you feel about God as in “Is there one??”, but I do know there is always two sides to any situation. Yes we as Americans have way more than many many people around the globe. I don’t feel even a little bit guilty about it. It is pretty simple that because we have SO MUCH we are able to do what no other country can. Give. A LOT. Americans are very very generous and without us having so much imagine what the world would look like. If America and Americans had less that doesn’t automatically mean the places that need it would have more. That is not how it works. So be thankful for what you have, more thankful you have enough to share, and pray to Big Bang Theory that never changes.

Be kind to others every single day. Find ways to make the world better. Remember it all starts with you. You alone can’t stop global hunger, but you can make sure the family down the block has food in their fridge.

I appreciate you all,

Poop Bag Character

I am a student of life. I’m amazed at the behavior of people and wonder about how they can be so lazy when it comes to thinking of others above themselves. I witness dozens of interactions every week that could go so much better if people simply took a moment to see how they can make the world better with a simple action. I do my best to think about other people and actively look to find a way I can do something for them making the world a tiny bit better. You don’t have to be Oprah and give everyone a free car to do something life changing for a stranger.

The other day I took Annabel out for a long walk. I usually take about 5 poop bags with me. Trust me this puppy is healthy and like her human Dad completely full of shit. Ha. Figured I’d get a ahead of that one. No softballs here buddy. I don’t usually need that many, but I would rather have extra than not enough. Old lessons from living on the farm. Always take an extra one or two because the one time you need them, you’re going to be real glad you did. I usually bag up the Annie treasures and then leave them on a corner or place I know I’m coming back to. No need to carry a poop bag around. On the way home after doing our laps thru the neighborhood I can grab all the bags and put them into the trash can.

The trash can is a dog poop station if you will. A pole with a trash can and the top of it has poop bags for people that don’t bring one with them. I always take them with me from my home and refill at the drop off, but hey I’m smart. So this particular day I made my deposit and noticed there were no more bags for other people. Not my problem right?? I turned and started rolling away, but that voice in my head said “You can do better Bucky.” The voice was right and I could do better. I had two unused bags in my pocket. I turned around and put those two bags in the empty box so that the next two people would have a bag. I was able to help two random people, but more importantly I was able to help keep my environment clean of dog poop.

It took almost no effort from me, no one would know what I did (until I share it here), and it helped someone else be a responsible person and pick up after their dog. I share because it really is that easy to be a good person. I hope that you go out and actively LOOK for places to make a positive difference in your neighborhood. People see you doing good things and it is contagious. I need no praise or someone to say good job, but what does make me feel proud is when others follow my lead. That means I’m doing my job as a human. This reminds me of a time I was dropping the nephews off at the airport.

We were checking in at the main area when some how the box of luggage tags got knocked over and spilled everywhere. I didn’t do it so it wasn’t my problem. I mean they have people that work there so I could just ignore it and go on with my life. Who cares if the line is super long and the guy behind the counter is doing all he can to move people thru faster. Now he has to pick up all these luggage tags while I watch. We both know that isn’t what happened. Actually my nephew set his bag down and started to pick them all up. Organizing them to go back into the box like they were supposed to and I could not have been prouder of that kid. Without prompting he simply did what was right and kind. Remember someone is always watching what actions you take. I hope you set a good example.

I have another person I used to know back in my snowboarding days that told me a story about how he found a wallet while out walking with his daughter. He bragged to me that it had a couple hundred dollars in it which he kept and then threw the wallet into a trash can. He justified his actions by saying the guy gave him a dirty look while he parked his car. I have no idea why this individual thought I would be impressed by his crap story. It makes me sad because this young lady is learning wrong and her Dad is a D-Bag thief. He had such an opportunity to show his daughter how to be the bigger person (if you believe dirty look story, which I do not), how to do the right thing, and let her experience the feeling a person gets when they do the right thing. If you don’t feel shame when keeping the wallet that makes me even sadder.

So don’t sit back and wait for this perfect moment to do something kind. Look for those moments. Seek them out, experience the feeling you get when doing something kind, and become addicted to that feeling. Trust me you are not that busy, you are not that important, and you are robbing yourself every day you put off doing the random acts of kindness. Like just about everything it isn’t only about you. By being lazy you are most likely robbing someone that looks up to you the lesson of being kind simply because it makes you a better person, a person of integrity, and a person of good character. Don’t rob kids of that lesson.

Do kind things. It really is that simple.

RIP Rush

Wow. I used to think that 70 years old was completely ancient, but the closer I get to it the less “old” it really sounds. I have no idea how old I’ll live to be and to one hundred percent honest I don’t care. I am in no hurry to cash in my chips, but hey at 42 I’ve had a lot of fun in this world. I’ve made some amazing friendships with people that I simply adore. I can go to any state, almost any city in the USA, and reach out to an old friend that will invite me in without worry about how many years it has been since we’ve last spoke. To me this is wealth, it is my value in the world, and I believe I am undoubtedly one of the richest men on the planet. If you woke up tomorrow morning with absolutely nothing how many doors could you knock on for help??? Whatever that number is, that is your value in the world. Truth is hard sometimes.

I spend a lot of time in my car. I have listened to Rush Limbaugh plenty throughout my years. Many times disagreeing, but I’m happy to hear ANY point of view as it gives me things to think about which is my favorite hobby. Thinking. Analyzing peoples views with facts and how my personal history and experiences shape who I am as a person. That is the beauty of it or what is supposed to be in America. This cancel culture to anyone with an opposing view is dangerous and ugly. You don’t win an argument by screaming SHUT UP at the person you are debating. If you are so much more correct than the other side “use your words” as we tell three year old children.

I read EVERYTHING I can daily. I sponge it up and then form an opinion based on what I want. At 42 years old you aren’t going to tell me anything or somehow shame me into changing my mind. I have an incredible amount of respect for Rush Limbaugh and it is a really sad day. I have looked at some left leaning websites, TV channels, and have been appalled at the vile and incredibly awful things people had to say. Even great generals in wars have respect for the other side and treat each other in a humane way. It is easy to be kind to people that think exactly like you, but the true character of a person is how they treat people they disagree with. There are a lot of people who failed that test and to me it is so sad.

Take politics out of it and Rush gave MILLIONS to different charities along with his time which we know is our most precious asset. Disagreeing with someone is not a reason to speak ill of the dead, to wish someone burn in hell, and all of the other insanely mean comments I have read the last 24 hours. This entire holier than thou BS with people somehow believing they are going to OUT HATE the people they have differing opinions with is crazy time. Hate is hate. If you are spewing that crao out there you are no better than the people you are supposedly “HATING FOR GOOD. Can there be a stupider sentence?? I’m hating for a good cause Bucky. Nope you’re fucking moron. Sorry Mom, that needed an F bomb.

Rapist and murderers on Death Row have to be treated with respect you scream and with the same breath you scream Rush Limbaugh was the DEVIL and needs to burn in hell!! How many millions have you given away to help those less fortunate?? How many volunteer hours you clock this month?? Nope you’re a keyboard warrior thinking somehow you are better than everyone else because CNN told you so. Grow up. You’re an intolerant asshole screaming like a small over tired child and I hope you take a step back to witness yourself.

Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum the world lost someone great yesterday. Either a great foe or a great friend. It doesn’t matter, the same amount of respect needs to be shown to them. You don’t do it for Rush Limbaugh or the person that has passed on, you do it for yourself. It takes a much bigger person to say “he was a worthy adversary and I will greatly miss debating him.” To type mean and hateful things does nothing but show me the true character of a person and that deep down anger and negativity is not needed in my world. You stay over there with your 2 “friends’ and have you’re little hate filled Victory party that someone is dead you disagreed with. Be sure to judge everyone else by your incredibly low moral bar you have now set.

So be respectful. You can change the name in this blog from Rush to Obama, Jimmy Carter, or even Nancy Pelosi and the message is exactly the same. All of these people have actual loved ones at home that depend on them, care about them, and are grieving right now. Is it so hard to just shut your judging, self appointed better than everyone else status, and simply say RIP. I have no problem pissing people off with what I say or do and most times I do things simply to get you to react exactly as I thought you would. You have a meltdown, call people names, and then do all you can to make sure that opposing thought is silenced. Silence people by being the bigger person and show the next generation what it is to be respectful of those you disagree with. That is called grace and using it is awesome.

Let me know exactly how many minds you’ve changed by screaming “shut up” at someone. I’d bet everything I have possession wise that number is zero. Of course it is their fault because you’re perfect. Nope you’re a jerk. Okay I’ve beaten that horse to death. Here is the point today. Simply look at the positives in moments like this. It is the correct thing to do no matter how hard you think it is.

RIP Rush Limbaugh. My thoughts and prayers to your family that is trying to make sense of the loss they have just experienced.

If you feel like doing something mean or typing something negative walk/roll away and find someone to do something kind for. You’re inner person with thank you for not planting a few more negative seeds (reference to yesterdays blog) and just maybe someday we can all have a civilized talk about what to do to make the world better. Actually no, we don’t need another conversation. You and I simply need to be kind to each other, those around us, and most importantly be over the top kind to people you disagree with. Watch their reaction.

I appreciate you all. If you have a meltdown and say ”I’m never reading another blog Bucky“ then enjoy that.

Do random acts of kindness and expect nothing in return.

Secret to Life.

Want to know the secret to life?? Make life fun for the people around you. Mess with people. You don’t have to be vicious or mean, but mess with their head a little bit. The first and most important step is to learn how to laugh at yourself. This is also a skill. Stop taking the “life” thing so seriously. No one gets out alive. You only get so much time. Here is the deal if you make an effort to make people in your inner circle feel good about themselves and laugh, your life improves. Now ready for the real mind blowing simplistic fact?? Imagine if everyone did that. If everyone on planet Earth could stop thinking about themselves and scheming on how to get more for ME the whole world could change overnight.

In the military the soldiers don’t fight for freedom back home, or for the right for some jerk to be able to burn the American flag, but for their brothers next to them. They put it all on the line for the guy/gal on their left and right. Freedom and flag burning jackhole are the results of this brotherhood and trust between those on the battlefield. When the bullets start flying they fight to keep the ones next to them safe and understand that those 2 people are doing the exact same thing. Together they are stronger and do not bend.

We don’t have any bullets flying at us or it doesn’t happen to often anyway, but we do have sour puss people in our lives that simply want to drag you and anyone else around them down into the poor me level. Don’t give in. It sucks down there. Say enjoy your trip into crybaby land, throw up some deuces, and be like peace out. Then avoid that crappy person for the rest of your life. Don’t worry they will find some other sucker to listen to the constant bitching, and together they can wallow around in the “world is too hard” mud together.

The world isn’t hard, you’re just a human that gets exactly what you deserve. You think negative, creating a basket full of crap thoughts, and then throw your negative seeds everywhere you go. Sooner or later that first negative seed starts to grow. And then another grows. And another. Pretty soon you have created a big fat negative forest that you live in. Of course you cry to anyone that will listen about how did this happen?? You freaking created it. That is what happened. You wanted the poor me sympathy from anyone who would willingly give it to you and then you just kept going. There is no one to blame but yourself and I’ll believe that until I’m killed by a gang of Chinese hookers at the age of 56 while out for a morning jog. Never ask a witch in the forest how you die. Lesson learned here the hard way.

Learn to smile. Learn to look at setbacks as learning opportunities. Learn to embrace others in your life warmly and leave your BS at the door. They don’t want to hear it. We all have stuff to deal with. You’re not special. I will gladly help anyone that needs it when I’m in a position to do so. You can ask anyone that knows me personally I am one of the first people call because they know I will help if possible and that I won’t hold back if I feel they need a kick in the ass. Don’t ask to borrow money. Chinese friends are expensive so I have no extra cash. The reason nobody likes you is because you don’t like yourself. It is sad and I wish it wasn’t the truth for so many, but when you have all this negative energy spewing out of you it is impossible to be happy alone because you suck.

So fix it and stop complaining about how you never catch a break all the time. The breaks are there. They always are, but when you are hell bent on crying about “poor me” those opportunities roll right on by to the next person ready to take advantage of them. Good things happening don’t come with a flashing light and hundred dollar bills raining from the sky which is what your lazy whining butt wants. No. They come in the shape of hard work, waking up everyday and getting after it, and believing in yourself. I can think of a dozen people I would like to tattoo this message on their chest, but I don’t waste my time anymore. If you aren’t willing to fix yourself, I’m not giving my energy to you. Nope, I say hello politely and then move on because my life is short and I’m going to take advantage of every opportunity I can identify. Wasting anytime in the crybaby mud hole isn’t for me.

So get after it. Smile A LOT. Help others. Go out of your way to help those that appreciate it, but always expect nothing in return. Expecting nothing means you can feel good about your deed and not have the let down thoughts like “I was sure person X would go on Facebook and tell everyone how great I am for helping.” If this is what you want stay home. You don’t get it. Simply put be happy you’re a good person inside and let that be enough because in the grand scheme of things this is the ONLY thing that truly matters.

Be kind to others and remember random acts of kindness make you a better person.

Are you a winner??

Sunday. NFC Champoinship game is on now and I get to watch the Packers play at least one more game this year. As I type this now we are down by 7 and Rodgers just got sacked on the 5 yard line. Damn it. I’m passionate about them and obviously want them to win. We all want our team to win, to be better than others, and we all love that feeling we get when winning. For most people it is addicting and you want that feeling all the time regardless of what happens to the “loser” or the other side. You want your win. Everyone is guilty of it one way or another. You don’t like football, take your pick on the other wins we gotta have including arguments with friends/family, proving a co-worker wrong, and the big one right now politics.

I had the pleasure of living next door to a NFL player for a couple years. He lived in the apartment right next to mine so I got to know him and his young family pretty well. I would tease him often about the Packers. Once I told him someone keyed his brand new HellCat charger and watched all the happy drain out of his face as I said “Yeah man, someone wrote GO PACK GO right on your hood. He laughed saying “you got me good there.” I share this as there is a point to my blah blah blah.

Time went by and that year in November the Packers came to town to play the Panthers. It was a crazy week leading up to the game and on game day I went to Packers tailgate party outside of the stadium as we all know Packer fans travel well. My good friend whom we call Rowdy won 2 tickets to the game and generously asked me if I wanted to go. Hell Yeah I wanted to go. Next thing I know I’m in the stadium getting ready to watch my team play the home team. For the record this was the day “I’m goooood brahh…” became a saying. The story behind that is a freaking great one, but you don’t get to hear that one today.

Prior to leaving for the tailgate party I had purchased a greeting card saying good luck and wrote a nice note in it for my Panther player next door. I came to really like him and his wife. It was funny he was always offering to carry things for me like the water jugs I get delivered, but I was scared he would pull a muscle in his back and then Panther nation would blame me for losing our cornerback. Okay getting off topic again. I wanted to wish my friend luck even though it was going against my team winning. I had been giving him shit for 4 months prior to this game and loved every second of it.

In the note I told him that to me it was simply a game. I wanted my team to win because it is natural and I wanted my “high” for the day. I thought about it that week though coming to the conclusion that it was just a game. To him it was his livelihood and the way he took care of his family. I realized it was bigger than me. In your rush to be right, to win, take a moment to pause and try to identify with who you are beating. There is a good chance you don’t know the back story, how that person got to where they are, and no matter how flipping right you think you are, there is a chance you’re not. Sometimes in life the end result that benefits you the most is not the best ending. I know in your selfish mind you can’t even grasp that concept.

The Packers lost that day. My neighbor shut down Randall Cobb for the game and it was great to see that for him. My neighbor was very happy when I saw him later that evening. He thanked me for the note and said the whole Panther team gave that note credit for the win that day. Okay that didn’t happen although he did thank me for the note. I ended up feeling better that night than I would have if the Packers won that game. I think about that day, that game, and that night from time to time when I need perspective on what is actually more important in my life and the lives of other humans.

It is the fourth quarter now so I’m done here. Just remember being a good human usually means doing the opposite of winning.

Go Pack Go.
