Same Caramel Different Day

ZERO fat???? I asked. “Yes” was the reply. I had just mixed up my scrambled eggs up with butter, bacon, and love. I didn’t even get one bite when the doctor came in and looked at my kidney drain. Not one bite. The drain was cloudy. Cloudy is bad.

I

If I wanted to go home I had to commit to a zero fat diet for two weeks. Not idea what that entailed, but what the heck, I wanted to sleep in my own bed so I agreed. How hard could it be?? Turns out there is fat in Häagen Dazs. The world hates me is my only conclusion. All the things I love have fat in them.

My sister helped clear out the bad and shopped for the healthy before she picked me up to take me back to the apartment. I’m lucky to have a great group of family and friends. I spent yesterday cleaning and organizing my bedroom. You see the last five plus years have been insanely hard on me due to this darn infection, but I couldn’t see it. My energy went down, my pain went up, and life in general slowly began to downgrade allowing my world to descend into chaos. Fancy way to say my home is a mess.

While organizing and cleaning my bedroom I found something the sister missed. A large piece of caramel I bought a few days ago while at the the mall. You know the candy store by the door with insanely yummy everything.. I loaded up before surgery thinking if things go bad my corpse will be full of chocolate goodness. I lived so I was a man with way too much sugar in his system and a leftover caramel in his bedroom.

My first thought was I’m eating this M Eff’er right now. Then I remembered who I am. FknBucky? Nope. Bucky? Nope. Allen? Nope. I am a man of character and self discipline. I haven’t always won every battle in my life, but I’m not losing this one. I take a bite and it will taste amazing. After 57 hours of ZERO fat I’ve earned a little yummy. Bull$h!t. The goal to reach is two weeks.

I take that bite and all I’ll taste is guilt and failure. I’ve done that before and learned that lesson. Not this time. My character isn’t for sale. I will wait two weeks and that bite will be one of power and satisfaction. That little caramel bite will give me strength for the next battle that will surely come.

We all have it in us. Wait it out.

On the Edge

I think I am just going to make every blog start with, it has been a while since I’ve posted on here….. Life is chaos. Mine is certainly full. I try hard to be enough for everyone I know, but I feel as though I constantly fall short and let people down. It is never my intention to fall short of expectations, but it still happens. I recently watched the movie “Dog” with Channing Tatum. I bet that guy wakes up everyday and says “Darn it, why can’t I be handsome like FknBucky??” Ahhh my twenties. Good days.

Don’t worry this entire blog is not going to be about how flipping good looking I am. Although it would make for some great reading. Nope, not today. I take Annabel out for a couple runs just about every day. She knows the route by heart and once I give the green light she takes off like a race car doing the quarter mile. She simply can’t get there fast enough. Where is there??? That is a great question.

We have checkpoints I created since she was a puppy. The easiest ones are streets. She can’t cross a street EVER unless I say okay. She will run to the very tip of the sidewalk. One more inch and she would be technically in the street so she doesn’t cross that line, but still gets as close to it as dogginly possible. Some people get freaked out at this, but I’ve learned to trust her. That line will not be crossed until I give permission. The word is “okay”, that gives permission to run ahead to the next checkpoint. I test her sometimes by yelling “Open”, “Almost”, and other similar sounding words. She flinches, but realizes those are not the right word and will sit and wait. Quite impressive.

The edge. One paw almost touching. I used to get almost upset in the beginning, but as I mentioned I trust her now so it doesn’t bother me anymore. In fact we had a conversation about it. I asked “Annie, why do you insist on being on the very edge??” She replied “The view is better.”

Think on that for a moment. I’m a great view kind of guy. I enjoy the edge. It makes me feel alive. To be safe, but close enough to the danger that I can smell it, taste it, and reach out and touch it if I wanted to. I’ve always been that way, but like everyone I had to grow up to properly know who I am. In life I don’t have time to waste so I’m flying to the next checkpoint as fast as possible, giving myself time to enjoy the view from the edge. Once the slow pokes finally catch up we all start again, but they never see the view I just witnessed because they just keep moving at that snail pace never realizing they missed out on something remarkable, beautiful, and many times life changing.

I remember a time we were driving around the mountains in Colorado on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing to do besides tell jokes and mess with each other. We stopped a few times to check out some views. One was on a very tall cliff. I’m sure something like a thousand feet down. We had four in the group, but only two of us ventured to the edge. Right on it. I stood there with my friend as the adrenaline started to pump understanding an inch or two separated me from certain death. I wasn’t scared. I was alive. The view was more gorgeous and precious. The moment went from nothing to a memory I’ll never forget as I stepped closer and closer to the edge. The other two guys were 20 ft behind us literally shaking with fear just thinking about being where I was. It was one of the first moments of my life that fear became a noun.

I understand who I am. I take risks. I enjoy the edge. I like the view. You have to figure out you. Don’t stand on the edge unless you are willing to accept the consequences. There is always a price to pay.

Whether you are in the front, middle, or back is up to you. Just be sure wherever you end up that you take time to enjoy the moment with those around you. When you feel your life is in chaos remember to control the only thing you always have control of. Your attitude.

Choose Wisely

Justice for Ryan Cooper. We will not stop asking questions until they are answered. I am 2,000 miles away, but I still keep an line of communication with friends in Traer. They are as passionate and pissed off today as they were the day this happened. You can’t hide forever and the truth will come out.

I am what I would consider well traveled. I have barely scratched the surface on how much I want to travel as I would love to never spend a day in the same place. I thrive in this situation. Multiple times in my life I’ve gone on road trips across the USA without a plan. I would drive until dark, find a hotel, and then crash for the night. In the morning I would go to breakfast and ask locals what was cool around there to go see. A kind conversation with a local will always yield some great advice on what to go see. This is what we would do. Spend the day checking out the natural beauty of this world in a town I’ve never heard of and will most likely never return to. Once done we would drive a few hours until dark and repeat the same process. Here is a HUGE sentence so pay attention: ”You are not that busy, life is not that crazy, and whatever you are stressed out about is not impossible.”

For unknown reasons humans tend to build these imaginary walls around them and then complain they can’t get out of the box. You built the walls. You only have to decide to knock them down. Once again I say to you ”It is that simple.” STOP wasting time and days on things that don’t matter. You don’t get it Bucky, my problems are way harder than everyone else’s. To that I say Bullshit!! I can’t pay rent, Bucky. So what is stressing out about it solving?? Nothing. Get a part time job. Cancel cable. Stop stressing and start doing. Okay I’m getting off topic here. Doesn’t make it mean less though. Print this paragraph and staple it to your forehead.

My point today is don’t waste precious time. We don’t know when this amazing journey called life is going to end. I live in an apartment building close to Uptown Charlotte. It is nice enough, rent is fair, and over the last 6 years I’ve had a good number of next door neighbors that I talk to when I see them. My current neighbor is Chris. The day he moved in I was stealing his power. I had a power chair that needed charging in the back of my van. Instead of dragging it out, I used an extension cord, and plugged it in to his patio outlet. In my defense that apartment had been empty over a month so…. I came outside to see my cord unplugged and thrown back over the wall towards my van. My first thought was okay somebody moved in. I knocked on his door and apologized for stealing power. We talked, he explained he didn’t know what to do so he just unplugged it, and then gave me permission to use it anytime I needed.

His name is Chris and he died a couple days ago. He jogged daily and had a beautiful white mutt that he would take with him. Always a kind word and we would chat for a couple moments when we ran into each other in the hallway. Chris was only 26 years old. He was running a marathon which was a hobby of his, and collapsed near the finish line dead. I’m told his mother and step-father were at the finish line of the marathon and witnessed him collapsing. There was absolutely nothing anyone could do. He was just gone in an instant without warning. I can’t think of a more unfair situation. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, how many cool toys you have, or how long your bucket list is because when your ticket is punched, that is the end.

Chris’s death has to be insanely hard on his family, but I hope you, me, and everyone can use this tragedy to remind ourselves to stop waiting for the right time to start living. You have to start today. Right now. No more excuses. Writing is my passion. I love doing it and hope one day I will be good enough to make a living doing it. If you want to help that dream come true please give me 5 stars, sign up to have my blogs emailed to you when I publish one, share it with other people you know, and make comments below.

I didn’t know Chris super well, but I guarantee you that I’ll never forget him. I will use his story to fuel my drive and my relentless pursuit to make my dreams come true. To come full circle and tie in the beginning of this blog with the end I will tell you this. Traveling as I have, talking to people like I do, and just enjoying new people I am bound to know more tragedy. Learning wisdom from other peoples lives is a tool for a more enjoyable life, but you have to be willing to accept the message. Chris died at 26 doing everything right. If his story doesn’t light a fire in you I have no idea what will. You have complete control in your life. Make decisions your 80 year old self will be happy about. No ones turns 80 and thinks ”Man I should have wasted more time stressing over dumb crap.”

I don’t have pictures of Chris so I added one of Annabel. RIP neighbor. A true tragedy.

Learn to enjoy your day instead of constantly bitching about the long line at Walmart, the President, your kids, the neighbor with a loud car, or whatever else gets your panties bunched up. Life is either awesome or sucks. You get to decide. Choose wisely.

Loss of a Brother

I’m trying not to puke or punch someone in the face. That is the text back I got when I asked someone about Ryan. I like everyone else am in complete disbelief. Never in a million years would I have thought something like this could happen. Not in Traer. Worst thing that usually happens is a bloody lip from a disagreement at a keg party. We are good old boys. Work hard play hard. Up at dawn, work all day, and then drink some Busch Light with the boys at night. Growing up, marriage, having kids and the responsibilities that come with those things takes away the beers with the boys time, but there is a brotherhood, a bond that gets created and once a member you are always a member. Time and distance do not cancel the membership.

Time goes by, stories get more colorful, the truth gets stretched a little further, our beer bellies get bigger each year, but the brotherhood never waivers. It doesn’t matter if I saw you last week or ten years ago we start up right where we left off. I chose to move away and haven’t lived in Traer for 20 years. Doesn’t matter I’m a lifetime member. Money can’t get you into this club, there is no leadership, and no real rules to follow except simply be a decent human. The biggest unwritten rule is when your friends come over to help you get a job done, you had better have plenty of Busch Light on ice in the cooler for when the tools get put away the beers start cracking open.

We lost a great brother the other night. I can’t think of a kinder man who could have been the face of our unofficial boys club. I met him long before I moved to Iowa. I remember he had a motorcycle when we were young and I thought that was so cool. Our Dads knew each other growing up so when we would visit Traer, we would sometimes stop at the Cooper farm. Dad and Jan would drink beer and reminisce while Ryan and I would stay under the radar doing what boys do. Cause a ruckus somewhere, but try not to get caught doing it.

Like all of us in life there are ups and downs. Ryan was not immune to the rollercoaster life, but he always had a smile and was a good friend to anyone that needed one. Like everyone else in Traer I’ve spent the last two days reliving the memories I have of him. I can’t remember a time where he was confrontational with anyone. He wasn’t weak but rather so easy going that there was never a need to embrace conflict. I’ve known a few people like this and it is special. I think that might this situation even harder to understand. How can someone so good at avoiding conflict have something like this happen in our small town?? The hardest part is knowing even if all the answers come it won’t bring our brother back. To say he will be missed is an extreme understatement.

We haven’t kept in touch the last few years, but for a while there we did SnapChat back and forth. Getting Snapchat’s from the cab of his semi truck while he hauled cattle always made me laugh. Ryan was blessed growing up in a family with a solid business helping keep them financially secure, but you wouldn’t know that to talk with him. He never presented himself better than anyone else and worked just as hard as the rest of the crew. I admired that quality as I’ve met plenty of men that sit back counting Daddy’s money as if they accomplished something.

I know that the Traer community along with the unofficial brotherhood there will step up and help his family get thru this. I can’t fathom what they must be going thru at this time. As my friend in the beginning of this blog said “I’m trying not to be sick” as this situation leaves me lost on what to do. I’ve traveled more than most, made friends from all over the globe, and appreciate them all. The bond that one makes with friends growing up is the strongest friendship bond there is. I’m no stranger to tragedy, but this one is so unnecessary and sudden that it is incredibly hard to accept.

Ryan Cooper will always be a member of the Busch Light Brotherhood (I know how cheesy that sounds, but I had to call it something) in Traer, Iowa. He will never be forgotten and the character I knew him to have will be honored. My heart is completely broken when I think of his boys having to continue growing up with only memories of their Dad. I know there are plenty of good men in Traer that will make sure they understand how great of a man their Dad was. It is times like this that I really dislike living so far from home, but my feelings of sadness and anger with this situation are like I never left. It hurts my heart and it sucks. Things like this aren’t supposed to happen to us. This is something you see in the news happening somewhere far away.

I know the community there will rise up to help his family because that is what small town Iowa does. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I truly hope they get some answers and over time have some closure. There is no map to follow in a situation like this. You just have to get up everyday, do the best you can, and honor your loved one by living your best life. I have trouble expressing emotions in my real life, but I’ve found I can vent things out with writing. I’m so so so sorry this happened and my heart breaks for the entire Cooper family. The loss of a husband/life partner, a father, son, brother, and friend is such a tragedy. No one should have to go thru what they are, but the strength of that small Iowa farm town and the brotherhood Ryan was a member of will be there to help every step of the way.

RIP Ryan. You will never be forgotten and the memories we have of you will live on forever.

Tell people you care about “you love them” everyday. It is important. Don’t wait to chase your dreams.

WIth a very heavy broken heart,

Elephants and Jigsaw Puzzles

2:59 AM. Seems to be a theme the last few months. My back decided to scream out at 2:24 and my only choice was to get up. It’s okay I was meaning to watch the SkinWalker Ranch show on History. That was sarcasm although now I want to know where all that damn water went. Guess you’ll have to watch too now. My brain wanders while I’m doing different things like taking Annie for walks. I don’t need all my brain power to throw the frisbee so it allows me to almost meditate while I throw the disc for her. I think of the “problems” I face daily and search for solutions. I like to do jigsaw puzzles and when I look for a new one I literally type “worlds hardest jigsaw puzzle” into google. The one I have now is awesome. I love to find answers. To look at things from multiple angles and learn from them. It is simply the way my brain works.

This current puzzle of just a bunch of lines drawn randomly (so it seems) looks to be impossible when a person first sees it. Well not to me, but we are about to get into that. I see a challenge. 1,000 pieces. The first thing is to get my first match or fit the first two pieces together. Boom not impossible anymore. I think well even if I only get one match per day I’ll be done in 1,000 days. When someone says that will take forever, well not anymore. 1,000 days is not forever. When I get two fits, then I think okay now it is only 500 days. This leads me to a couple metaphors that are popular. First one is how do you eat an elephant?? One bite at a time.

The other one I like a lot is imagine a giant ship like the one our friend from the last blog was stuck on. Big deal to turn that beast around. If you were to turn the Rudder only 1 degree to the right that massive ship would slowly start to turn. That ginormous ship will turn all the way around as long as you stay on the path. I use this analogy in my life. I don’t have to make a complete about face today. Just shift the rudder 1 degree and then stay with it. You can change your life with very little immediate sacrifice. Maybe tonight you only drink 5 beers instead of 6. Skip that last cigarette before bed. Ask your partner how their day was. Slow down slightly and let the car merge in front of you. You don’t have to become a different person overnight. All that you need is a willingness to try to change, and then follow thru.

I was planning to talk about a completely different angle on this whole puzzle thing, but I think I should split it up into multiple blogs. For today I think it is a perfect time to remind you that it is never to late to make a change. You don’t have to turn the ship around in one day. Just tweak the rudder a bit to the left or right. The change in direction will be slight at first, but soon you and others around you will start to see the shift. There are some people in your life that will be proud of you, some will be confused by you, and unfortunately there will be some people that want you to go back in the original direction. They don’t want you changing because it reminds them that they aren’t doing anything.

I am reminded of a time that a friend of mine after listening to “Jim Rohn – Excelling in the new millennium” decided to quit drinking for a week. A whole 7 days. For someone that drank daily the 7 days was a reasonable goal. It was insane to me how many of his friends could not handle it. They would show up with booze and say “come on” just have a couple with us. Good friends would respect his decision and help him reach a goal. He made it the week, but told me that he wouldn’t do it again. Kind of sad.

Ugh!! Twice now I have finished a blog only to have it not actually save so I have to write again. My frustration level is 1,000 right now. Oh well. Here is the point today. You can change. You can go the complete opposite direction you are currently on. it doesn’t have to be all at one time. Just make that 1 degree turn, put two pieces together, or simply start taking bites of the elephant. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life that I’m not proud of. I am proud that I paid attention and learned the lessons on these mistakes.

Don’t be afraid of the harder path. I could do easy puzzles, but I’ve already done that and so have you. Never underestimate your strength as we all have it inside us, but you have to test it, exercise it, and prove to yourself nothing is impossible. I wanted to start my own business and have. October will be 2 years. I am very proud of that. I wanted to write this blog more often and then make t-shirts. I am proud of that as well. I am in the process of starting a non-profit that will be making a film. More details on that in the future. Life is short, chase your dreams starting today, and never let anyone hold you back.

Remember to be kind. Be the person to give random smiles to strangers. A simple honest compliment can turn someone else’s day around. Most importantly you have to start whatever it is. Find two pieces that fit and boom you are on your way.

Take a Moment

I wrote most of this a couple days ago, but needed to think for a day or two before posting. Sometimes before you shoot your mouth off or your FB post off take a step back and think about the consequences your words might have.

Others. Funny word that means something or nothing depending on how you think about it. Who are the others?? Family members?? Friends? Co-Workers?? Maybe random people you happen to be on a city bus with. Or on an elevator. Unless you are the freaking Una-Bomber you are going to have other people around you a large part of your life. Do you think about them or keep your focus on yourself??? I try very hard to think about others in my life, but I come up short. Meaning I screw up and I’m completely oblivious to it until I’m called out. The moment I realize my wrong I usually sit back and think how in the heck did I let that happen???

It happened today, just now actually and I feel pretty crappy about it. I don’t need to get into the details as that doesn’t matter so much as the point or lesson. No matter how diligent we try to be about this and that sometimes we just screw up. It is human to do so. Letting down someone you care about is a complete crap feeling that I dislike a lot. This is why I try hard to not let it happen. When it does though don’t make excuses. Own your mistake and save the words for a blog. They only way to right the wrong is actions. Stay with me right here and read slow because this point is going to be important for the rest of your life.

Words, English, or Spanish are languages that you and others use to communicate. The words on their own don’t mean crap though. Words are easy. You can be a complete ass, simply say “I’m Sorry” when you get caught, and go about your life exactly the same. Apologies are for real remorse and I don’t respect people that throw them around. Here we go. I promised you a mind blowing moment and we are finally there. The only language that matters in life is “actions”. Your actions, the things you actually do, and the way you react to your mistake is an actual language and the only one I read. I simply don’t care what BS comes out your mouth as the only apology I need or care about is the one you make with your behavior. Be better when you make mistakes and save the “I’m sorry” for when you bump into someone in the check out line at Target.

I had to make that point. Now for our dog related post.

I had a long drive home today from the mountains. I’ve made this same drive a dozen times over the last few years so I know the route, but I still have Google Maps going to make sure I know the route and warn me of traffic problems. Today I was cruising along and the freeway split. I thought I’m supposed to go left, but the google map had me staying to the right. I trusted the app. Well the app was frozen and not doing a dang thing for me. I thought well I’ll just turn here and run back into the freeway. I had forgotten that driving in the mountains is no guarantee you will run into anything except more curvy roads to drive on. I am cursing my google map app at this point.

I tried the other map app on my phone and got zero result on that also. Now I’m just driving around some mountain town with no idea how to get back to stupid road I needed. I was getting more angry every second that went by. I finally pulled over, restarted my phone, and got a map app to come on. Of course I had Annabel with me and she was looking at me like “you’re an idiot”. I took a second to restart myself and realized she was very right. I had pulled over in a “park” type area in the middle of the mountains. It was 76 degrees outside and sunny. Here I am losing my mind cursing the road, the sun, Joe Biden, Laura Trump, Mr. T, the stop sign, stupid green car in front of me, the crap white car behind me, and well you get it. I curse a lot. I took a breath and stopped cursing.

I got out of the van with Annabel and rolled about 50 feet to a nice shady spot that had a tiny creek running thru it. It was actually pretty cool little spot. I started to throw the frisbee and all that anger started to leave me one throw at a time. It was almost like I could see the anger flying off the frisbee as it spun thru the air. Turns out that was slobber leaving the frisbee, but lets say it was the anger to make this life moment sound better. I had to honestly ask myself where was I in such a hurry to get to??

I took 45 minutes to get back on track, but I had a calm me and a very exercised puppy happily sleeping in the seat next to me. It was a beautiful day and now I’m home writing at 8 pm having accomplished all I needed to with time to spare. Someday I’ll learn to not let myself get all worked up in the first place, but until then I’ll have to keep a dog close to tell me I’m an idiot. I know this is dog week, but in my opinion playing frisbee with Annie to not be pissed at the world anymore is a great dog story. Plus it is my blog so I make the rules.

I’m trying to tie in the first part with the last part, but truth is I just feel bad I let a friend down and writing about things is how I process them. I guess you can look at both situations and realize neither would have happened if I had been more patient, paid better attention to details, and actually do what I talk/write about.

Have a great Friday. I appreciate you all very much.

Stupid Kids

Wednesday. Hump Day. Those darn car insurance mafia people have ruined hump day for me as well. I always think about that camel walking thru the office. I will gladly lead the rebellion when it is time that we all stand together against this common enemy. White, black, yellow, green, smart, stupid, guy, girl, oak tree, slutty people, not slutty people, tall people, short people, kind, mean, in between, and pretty much ANYONE on Earth except for the gingers. I do not want those soul stealing psychos on my revolution team. Dang it. I’ll take them only to keep them off Team Car Insurance and we get to put them in Joe Biden’s children cages until combat day. Oh come on, it is just one little dig on ya…. Funny the fake outrage people aren’t clamoring for TV time now. Tell me again how they aren’t manipulating assholes. Don’t fall for it. Damn I totally forgot what my point was today. I started writing planning to get around to something, but I can’t for the life of me remember what the hell it was right now. I blame a Ginger. One of you got to me!! ***I make fun of Gingers because it is funny and they have no souls***. Just in case you wondered.

Oh yeah now I got it. I have one of my nephews staying with me this week. Many of you that follow this blog know how much I enjoy being an Uncle and I take that role seriously. Read the “Eat Your Beans” blog as it is always a good one. Young men need to be taught and guided on how to be a man. Looking people in the eye when you shake their hand, speak with a purpose, think thru your actions before you start doing anything, and most importantly you get respect when you give it. Be kind, pay attention, and never let people treat you poorly regardless of the circumstance. Make good choices and realize that sometimes the right choice is the one that benefits you personally the least. The ME ME ME attitude that is so prevalent in this world is a social cancer. People need to learn the more you do for others the better your life will be, but this takes time and the instant gratification crew have no patience for that.

Having good character is more important long term than the instant feel good now things that puts other peoples feelings and needs second to yours. To have a fulfilling life you have to build a solid foundation of doing right by others everyday regardless of what is in it for you. Class is not only in session on the weekends, evenings, or when it is convenient for you. Nope. It is 24/7. Every hour of every day is the time to show young people what it is to be a person of substance. You don’t teach by lecturing when it comes to these lessons, you teach by doing. You want the young people in your life to be good humans then actively pursue being good yourself. They will follow and are soaking up everything you do like a sponge. Make sure they are soaking up the right stuff because that’s all you put out.

School can only do so much and truthfully if you are leaving the character of the young people in your life to be molded by public school then you‘ve already failed. I talk with my nephews like they are men simply because one day God willing they will be. When they do something dumb I point it out. Not to be mean, but the complete opposite. I want them to learn and do better. There are a lot of dumbass people on this planet simply because no one loved them enough to call out their BS early on. Teenagers are supposed to be stupid. It is what they are. It is up to grown folks to remind them constantly with the goal of beating every little bit of self confidence out of them. Ha. Obviously not true. Don’t just point out the mistake, take a moment to explain why certain words or actions are not the right way, and then show (not tell) them the correct path. Show them how to be better and how great life is when you put others ahead of yourself.

Kids pick up on things so let them learn by experience. Let them see the difference of walking into a room and not saying a word to the other people in that room vs walking into said room, introducing themselves to each person, looking them in the eye and shaking hands. I’m not a parent, but I will say this, when I take my nephews with me while working I get so many compliments on them for the simple thing of them introducing themselves correctly. That in itself must mean they‘re doing something right. It is never to early to start these life lessons. Simply ask yourself this question “Do I love the young people in my life enough to show them how to become a person of character or is it too much work??”

It doesn’t matter what task you do with kids it only matters you spend time with them. I can teach the same message while throwing a football in the backyard as I can baking an apple pie. None of these things are rocket science. Finish what you start. Don’t do things half assed. Be proud of your work and when you do something do it the best you can. No one is going to make fun of a boy that baked a pie if that pie is stupid awesome tasting. They will make fun of you playing catch if you miss the ball and it hits you in the face. At least I would.

Enjoy your life, lead by example, and simply find ways to be kind to others.

Days

159337D3-4F9D-4F5B-A92C-598CCC5E6884Hello internet people.  It has been a while since I’ve shared with you.  I need to write more than I have been as I use it to get thoughts out of my head.  Right now I would like to share the way I think about days.  You see you only have so many days in your life.  I understood this at a very early age and decided to live my life accordingly.  I was having tea with my Grandfather when I was 15.  He was 80ish at this time and made the comment how he remembered being 15 like me, but then one day he woke up and was 80.  His voice trailed off as he said it and I understood at that exact moment how quickly life passes by.  I knew that I didn’t want to waste any days.

We all have no knowledge of what the future holds.  Will you live to be 80??  Will you die tomorrow in a car accident??  We all hope not, but either way we all die sometime which means you only have a set amount of days left.  What will you do with them???   Let’s use some easy numbers to drive my point home.   10,000 days is equal to around 27 years which puts me at 68 years old.  Still young to some and super old to others.  Okay now we have our days.

I want to ask a couple questions with the first being what did you do the last 10 days?? Did you work towards your goals???  Do you have goals??  Remember we only have 10,000 days to get it all done.  How many days did you lay on the couch all day??  How many did you chalk up to being a “bad day”??   Was it 2, 3, or maybe 5??  Let’s say 3 days fall into the couch/bad day category.  That is 30% or 3,000 of your remaining days.  Fuck.  I know, it is crazy when you think of it like that.

There is work also as most of us are not trust fund babies.  We work on average 260 days a year.  This on our 27 year plan is about 7,000 days.  So between bad days, couch days, and work days we just pissed away our entire 10,000 days.  That sucks.  So for the heck of it lets say you only work 4 days a week so we gain back 1,000 days.  How many of those days are you willing to piss away feeling sorry for yourself, wishing the past was different instead of concentrating on making the future awesome, and holding grudges that mean nothing instead of enjoying the people around you???

Maybe you want to spend your days being a victim, I’m a girl, I have a disability, I’m the wrong color, my sexuality holds me back, or some other BS that gets wrapped up in our heads.  I’m not saying those things aren’t real or even a problem, but allowing those things to dictate how we live our lives is bullshit.  Never let the stupidity or ignorance of others change your goals or how you enjoy life.  You only get so many days don’t give ANY to people that don’t deserve them.

What do you want to go see??   What do you want to learn??  Who would you like to meet?? These are the questions you should ask yourself every morning.  I personally am not willing to trade any days whining and complaining about things I can’t change.  It isn’t worth it.  One day God willing I will wake up and be 80.  My first thought on that day  needs to be “I’m sure glad I didn’t waste any days”…

Think about it.
