Debate is Good

My arms are worked this AM. I’ve done double workouts the last three days and when you skip leg day that adds up. I’m so committed to doing this darn pull up I might start wearing them again. If they put images of Jessica Alba on them instead of Superman, I bet more men would pull them up! Just saying. Okay let’s talk about something we aren’t supposed to talk about. How much your Mom hates you. Ha. I’m just kidding, I don’t want to talk about that, but trust me she does.

Take a joke Sally. I miss that word. This weekend I went to see a comic I enjoy, twice. You see I misread the ticket like an idiot and drove all the way to Spartanburg on Saturday for the show only to arrive to a completely empty arena. I thought “Bucky, this doesn’t look right” as I pulled into the empty parking lot. I pulled up Ticketmaster on my phone and sure enough the show was on Sunday. It had been about 3 hours since I had done something insanely stupid so I was definitely due. At least I got to drive my new Van so it wasn’t all bad.

On Sunday I got to the show and had an extra ticket. I bought them months ago and purchased the up close tickets with VIP access to the sound check. So glad I did this. I yelled out to the crowd waiting in front of the venue that I had a VIP ticket for the first person that wanted it. A lovely lady of 73 yrs young named Susan took me up on the offer. Turns out her son paid $130 for a fake ticket so she was SOL until I showed up. I gave her the extra one and felt good about myself. Sometimes being kind is really simple. I tell you this not to brag because I don’t need your compliments, I tell you only so that you might think about it next time an opportunity arrives for you to do something nice for a complete stranger. I’ll never see this woman again, but she will never forget me for all the right reasons. There is power in that.

Now the point of today’s blog. Greg Gutfeld is a TV show host on FOX news. I get it some of you hate FOX. I don’t care about that and relax for a moment because there was a very teachable moment for all of us here. On one of his shows “The Five” there are five people that sit around a table talking about different news worthy topics everyday. Usually there are 4 conservative leaning people with one liberal leaning person. One particular liberal named Jessica Tarlov is strong in her beliefs and is usually on the complete opposite side of political issues which makes her not so popular with the conservative audience of FOX. At the show Sunday Greg put up pictures of his co-hosts and talked about “insider” info on each of them. He put up a picture of Jessica and about 25% of the crowd booed loudly!

I was close to the stage, in fact I was only about 10 feet away from Greg when put this picture up, and anyone that watches the show knows the group of people around the table are all friends regardless of their political disagreements. WHAT BUCKY?? People who disagree about politics can be friends?? What is this crazy BS you talk?? Yeah friends can disagree about things. Back on topic. I could see in his face the disgust with those in the crowd that booed. He was visibly annoyed by it, and yelled “STOP THAT!” Immediately. I was so proud of him at that moment. He said “We don’t do that. We can be civil to the other side and NEVER shut down someone from expressing their viewpoint.”

He talked about if you are right or believe in your position on a topic, you should be able to defend it civilly with words. In fact debate is great, it is healthy, and it sharpens your argument which makes us all better. Shutting down someone from speaking is kid crap. Babies scream. Adults speak. If you have to shout someone down you already lose. Facts are facts. I don’t argue politics with my friends from the opposite of me because it has no purpose. I’m not going to say some remarkable thing to suddenly change their mind and they aren’t going to drop some crazy sentence to make me say “I was wrong all my life, thank you for posting that FB meme!!” We are who we are and you have nothing to be ashamed about. Be proud of you, but NEVER think you’re so right someone else doesn’t have the right to exist.

We don’t have to agree on everything to be friends. The world is going to be just fine regardless of what 24 hour BS news tells you. Mad crazy people are easier to control. Calm thinking rational people don’t make rash stupid decisions. Don’t be a mad crazy person. If your opinion is correct you should be able to express your viewpoint with a kind demeanor and listen to others without disrespect.

I had a great time at the show on Sunday and met some wonderful people. J and S (pictured above and full names withheld) let me sit next to them and we had tons to speak about before the show got going. They are amazing people that watched my stuff while I went to the restroom, I’m so glad I made the trip (twice), and thankful I got to meet all the wonderful people there. My overall point is simply don’t be the person who tries to shut down debate. Enjoy the show, have respect for everyone, and understand it is YOUR character that diminishes every time you scream BOO.

PEACE

Peace. Simple word. Only five letters and one syllable. Clap your hands when you say a word if you’ve forgotten what a syllable is. It carries a very significant meaning that most of us never think about. We have peace here in America for the most part. In fact we have so much of it people here actually hunger for war and find controversy in every corner, in every action, and mostly because the TV tells them to. Here is an idea, turn your TV off and try thinking on your own for a few minutes. Don’t tell me what to do Bucky!! Fair enough.

My heart breaks for the people in Ukraine and in Russia. Yeah Russia too. Those soldiers on both sides don’t want to be there and their families are filled with worry every single day. Hundreds of thousands of people have died in this stupid war since it started 3 years ago. I will be very clear on this statement. Vladimir Putin is the aggressor of this war and isn’t a nice person. Okay, now we have to go back to reality. Calling him a “Dickhead” on TV, to his face, in the paper, or anywhere will not stop people from dying.

You see sometimes grown ups have to do this thing called “be the bigger person”. It means accepting the fastest and best way to stop a conflict is to just shut up and let the A-hole think they have won. Is being declared the winner worth someone dying?? If so how many?? Maybe President Trump should give Zelenskyy a huge hug on TV, say Putin is actually Hitler, and pledge security for Ukraine no matter what. Would that make the TV people happy??

That would mean full on war. American people don’t want that. No not our people killed. If your principals are so high and mighty and important that Ukrainians should keep dying then why not your family members?? Don’t hate on me for asking a question. If your son, daughter, brother, sister, or parent was on that front line would you care who got blamed for this or that, OR would you just pray every eff’ing day the bullets would stop flying??

Some of you may have missed what actually happened the other day. We had a President that said “NO” to continuing a war. It is hard being told no, and clearly many people in government, in this country, and in this world are not accustomed to hearing it. They immediately flip out. A LOT of people in this country live paycheck to paycheck. We have homeless citizens, drug addicted citizens, and people who recently lost everything in Hawaii (remember them), California, NC, Florida, KY, and all the other places that Mother Nature punched in the face. We have no money to help them. NONE.

We have sent 350 BILLION to Ukraine. That is a lot of dollar bills for those of you that only think in make it rain. Over half of that money can’t be accounted for. Many of the weapons we PAID for were sold off for $.20 on the dollar to organizations around the world that hate America. Hamas being one of them. Oh shit Bucky, are you saying??? Yeah some corrupt pricks in Ukraine took our stuff intended to help them fight and sold that for a quick buck. Oh man, you mean some people are scumbags?? Ha. Here I thought you’d never get it. Follow the money. A lot of people do NOT want this war to end because they are getting rich. Very rich.

Simply sending Ukraine more and more and more and more is stupid. This war has to end. One way or another and President Trump gave Ukraine a life line that would have paved the way for our two countries to become strong economic partners. That is the only the first step, but you can’t win the Boston Marathon if you don’t take the first eff’ing step. Ukraine isn’t getting into NATO without a full blown war with Russia. That is a fact. Millions will die. Is that what your ego wants?? Is your need to beat your chest worth all those souls?? Yeah I didn’t think so.

This peace process is going to be messy. It is going to take time and hard choices have to be made. Lines drawn that can’t be crossed. Putin is a jerk, but he is strong. Strong people only respect other strong people. Remember that because it is important. Biden was anything but strong. Those days are thankfully over. As every married man on Earth will attest to: Being right doesn’t mean you win the argument.

President Trump was right to walk away from that meeting. Peace is the only option and having one person more interested in being “right” than finding a realistic path to no more needless deaths blew that meeting up. Until PEACE is the only acceptable option for President Zelenskyy, America should not send more of our Tax Dollars to Ukraine. Some of you may disagree and that is OKAY, but I will say this. We have tried your way for 3 years with absolutely nothing to show for it. Should we spend another 350 billion, another 500,000 lives, and another 3 years continuing this same path??

The Power of Heated Steering Wheel

What is going on here?? I started this blog before the Iowa Caucus so that is why I’m talking about Vivek. Just because he dropped out doesn’t mean I don’t like him anymore. I’m grateful I took the time to listen to him. As genuine a person you will find.

I try hard to stay out of politics, but I could not resist talking about Vivek. The man intrigues me and truth be told, I like him. My liking him has nothing to do with him getting elected or what your opinion should be of him. I promise not to harp on this particular subject to often, but I want to take you on a written word drive right now. Buckle up!! You just might learn to use that head of yours for more than a Busch Light entry hole.

It is cold. Thanks for pointing out some obvious crap Bucky, you might say. I had an appointment with my go to Asian masseuse this morning so I had to head out around 8 am. I bought a minivan a few years ago so I could drive the wheelchairs and equipment I sell around. I thought about getting a “cooler” car, but truth is I can not pick up girls in a minivan just as good as I can not pick them up in a Porsche Cayenne. I really want one, someday I’ll be able to afford a poster of one to put above my bed or something. My minivan is cool though it has tinted windows, spilled chips, and my personal favorite smells like whatever Annie rolled in yesterday.

The minivan has a heated steering wheel. I’d never heard of such a thing to be honest and didn’t even realize it was there when I bought the van. One day it was cold and I used the auto start. When I got into the van and started driving I thought “Ooooo, that’s nice…”. There is a point, just hang on. Last I’ve thought about it. It is normal now. I was looking at new vans last night just because and found one I liked with low miles. Looking at the options on it, I noticed there was no heated steering wheel, and that meant it was a no go. That option is simply too good to give up in my tiny human brain.

Now. Let’s look at something else. Power. It is better than drugs. Making people do things because you have power over them. A boss. A parent. A tough guy. A politician. Hmmm interesting now eh.. A boss can be fired. A parent can only rule 18 years. A tough guy, well there is always someone tougher. A politician only needs to manipulate your tiny brain every few years. You see the power they acquire is like my heated steering wheel. They can’t give it up. Seemingly good people corrupt themselves in the name of “helping you”, helping me, helping the guy that can’t help himself. They remind themselves how important and smart they are. You would be lost without them so that justifies hanging onto that power no matter what it takes.

They say “This is good for you, trust me!” Nope. My BS meter goes off anytime someone says this is good for you. How do you know what is good for me? You aren’t me. You’re not my spouse, best friend, or at the very least someone that knows what color Tommy John I got on today. These boxer briefs are like heaven. Worth every penny even though I shoplift mine. As long as you’re under $1,000 they don’t prosecute. Hey don’t blame me. You keep voting these idiots into power. I had to Bucky, the TV told me the other guy was racist and killed gays on the weekend. Just knowing your level of stupid exists makes me feel better about myself.

Every year the power these folks have becomes more and more addicting. For Big Bangs sake why do we have senators that are 90 some years old?? WHY??? 50 years in public service. I have another beef there. Public service my butt. Why you worth 200 million when you started out broke?? Job only pays $150,000 a year. I don’t blame the politicians. I blame you. I blame me. My parents. Your parents. Our neighbors. We allow it to happen over and over and over….. As long as they have a D or an R by their name they are on my side. Here is the truth. You don’t have a side.

So money and power. Hmmm thank baby Jesus (Just watched Talladaga nights) that money and power have never corrupted good people in the history of mankind. Clearly the 700 folks that have it would never do anything questionable to keep it. They lie to your face. They manipulate facts to push their agenda. They suppress video evidence. They lose emails. They hide behind this and that. They kill Jeff. There is nothing they won’t do to keep the power, the money, and the opportunity for MORE.

I just wanted a heated steering wheel. My brain went all crazy blaming my steering wheel wishes on corrupt politicians. Now I will get a cold wheel and get rid of power steering to try and save my soul.

Stop following, trusting, and believing in people because “they” tell you to.

READ the language of actions.

LISTEN to what they don’t say.

WATCH who benefits from what they do.

Memorial Day

Life is pretty awesome when you allow it to be. We live in America (most of us as I have some very distant readers) which is the greatest country in the world. Mainly because I’m here. There are a lot of people, millions of people in fact, that we will never get to know. They are impossible to meet. They laid their lives down to protect future generations in this country. In my opinion you owe them the respect to understand exactly how big that price was they paid. I love reading history. There is so much we didn’t learn in high school or college. Simply posting a photo on social media of a widow at a gravestone is not showing the respect all of those fallen soldiers deserve. You are free to stand on a street corner and yell “America Sucks”, “America is racist”, or “America is the devil” because of brave men and women you will never meet.

This country isn’t perfect, but no where is. Simply look at where we used to be compared to where we are now. Eventually we get it right, but it never happens overnight. I say this A LOT because it is true. You can’t HATE something or someone into changing. You can love someone so much they have no choice to trust you and learn from you. You take the most racist white power asshole out there and when you scream HATE at him/her you only fuel that hatred. Set that same person down with a black person that only shows love and compassion to them for a real conversation. That changes things. Even the biggest of ignorance can not ignore that all those feelings of hate are based in fantasy land.

Being wrong is okay. It is okay as long as when reality slaps you in the face, you learn the lesson and change your heart. On this Memorial Day weekend please take the time to understand the freedoms we enjoy 365 days a years did not come cheap. America isn’t perfect, but we have the freedom to change. We have the freedom to lead by example. We have the freedom to chase our dreams. Ignorance, evil, and just crap people are never going away. No matter how many laws you make, catchy slogans you come up with, or how many people you hate for good these type of people will always be there. Learn to identify them and then forget about them.

On another note I wanted to share a cool story. Years ago on Memorial Day I wanted to honor those that gave up all for my freedoms so I drove to Balboa Park in San Diego. Awesome place by the way. They have numerous museums for this and that. I had no plan and just went. I ended up at a military museum that honored some remarkable people who did extraordinary things when the need arose. I am fascinated at the strength some people have in the hardest of situations. Without a doubt stories like this help me daily to deal with my own challenges. Remember people don’t judge you on the problems you face, but they do form opinions about you from the attitude and strength you have facing those problems.

I was in this museum for about 15 minutes when some guy came up and asked if I wanted to meet “Gunny”?? I had no idea what the heck he was talking about, but of course I said yes. He took me into the back room where all the drugs were. Wait wrong story. When the door opened I rolled thru it and there he was. R Lee Emny. Mr Full Metal Jacket himself. I thought well this is a cool surprise. Turns out he was there as a spokesman for WD-40 to give a check to some Veteran charity. I believe it was Wounded Warrior Foundation, but not 100% on that. Point is I had no idea, but I was able to talk with him for almost an hour in that back waiting area.

He was awesome and had some great stories to share. Fun how sometimes things just happen. The world is a pretty amazing place full of incredible people. Take the time to learn from individuals outside of your circle. As we get older our circles seem to get smaller. My favorite thing in the world is talking to people from somewhere I know nothing about. I didn’t even know Estonia was a country until I met a girl from there. I think it is in Australia. Ha.

Use this day to show respect and appreciation to those that gave their lives for an idea of freedom. Learn their stories, teach those that look up to you to have respect, and mostly simply lead by example.

Get your FknBucky shirt ordered! I appreciate you all.

When Kids Fail, we all win.

Disclosure: I wrote this blog a couple days ago, but my real life job (the one that pays for all my luxury items like my chick magnet mini van) got in the way of my writing career.

I like the blog I wrote yesterday. Sometimes the next day when I read them again I’m like “Eh, it could have been better.” That is okay though. Nothing is perfect every time. It is okay to fail and in fact it is good when you do. I say often and as far as I know I’m the only person I’ve heard say it so it is my quote. I expect credit every time you steal it. Here you go. Bad days are great, without them how would you know you’re having a good day??? Wow my crippled ass oozes wisdom. Just remember if you call me crippled I’m going to stab you and get away with it. I am just faking being paralyzed for the chicks. I used to tell that joke on stage and one of the worthless crap bag other comics actually started to BELIEVE it. Damn people are dumb. He literally grabbed me and pulled me out of my chair in front of the Comedy Store in La Jolla. Sure wish a couple Iowa/Wisconsin friends were with me that night. Dude would still be using a straw to eat steak. Someone did punch him in the face, but not nearly enough times. Okay way off course now. That guys sucks at life. His name is Gordon. Feel free to punch every Gordon you meet just in case it is him. How many can there be???

Failing is good. I just proved it isn’t always a good thing. Gordon failed at life. Like completely. Don’t take failing to that level. When I used to snowboard (I MISS IT SO MUCH) I would often say “if you aren’t falling you’re not trying.“. You have to push the limits to grow and sometimes you just miss the mark. I love to make people laugh, truly it is quite possibly my favorite thing to do. If you know me personally you know this to be true. Sometimes though my jokes fall very flat. It is kind of embarrassing and a few times are burned into my memory like “Oh shit, I really wish I had that comment back..”. I wouldn’t change a thing though. When this happens I usually say “they can’t all be zingers..”. You have to put yourself out there or be happy hugging the wall, riding the pine, or any other analogy about not getting into the game.

How you deal with failing is a massive part of the character you have as a human. If you throw a fit and whine to anyone that will listen well lets just say that is not the right way. Accepting the failure and then analyzing it to learn from it so that you are better next time is the right reaction. Not always the easiest option, but it is the right one. When we jump in to save our kids the pain of failure at ANY age you are stealing the lesson from them. Our first reaction is to protect them which is a noble one, but you have to fight that urge and let nature do its thing. Learning to fail correctly can start at any age. We never stop failing/learning as we grow older, but the problems and consequences get a lot bigger as we age. This is where wisdom comes into play. Learning the lessons at age 3, 4, or 12 years old lets us develop the skill of coping with failure. When you “protect” a child from this hardship they miss out on the lesson which leads to much harder times later on in life.

All of a sudden you are 20 years old and failure feels like the end of the world because you’ve never dealt with it. Let the lego tower fall and break so little Timmy learns to go thru the motions. First is the disbelief the tower feel, then anger at the thought of the stupid tower, depression because it sucks to have to start over, and then acceptance that it happened and the lesson of why it happened. Next time Timmy will build a larger base to keep the tower steady as it gets taller and taller. Grabbing the tower as it starts to fall and handing Timmy a cookie is wrong. He learns nothing and becomes fat. Not a horrible thing cause when Pippa comes out with a need for children burgers I’m coming for fat little Timmy first. Read the blog “Royals” if you want to understand that last line. You really do have to read every blog.

Timmy Burch lego. Google it.

None of this means you can’t help. In fact quite the opposite. You should be there to help point out the lessons learned and guide a young person in the correct way to accept failure. Help them see the lesson. Now here is the big one. If no one ever let you fail you don’t have the wisdom needed to teach this ever important life lesson. This leads to the snowball effect that continues for generations. Every time it gets a little bit worse until some catastrophic event happens leaving many to ask “What happened?? How could this of happened??” You heard it here first. All of the problems in the world lead back to Timmy and those darn legos. How do you prevent this?? First of all don’t name your kid Timmy and never let them play with legos. Easy enough. I’m here to help.

Life is awesome. It is also very very hard sometimes. Learning how to cope is a big part of having a happy life. I guarantee you that at some point in your life you will experience failure that seems overwhelming, but if you have had practice your whole life you’ll be ready to deal with it. No one goes thru life without stupid mean challenges hitting us in the face sooner or later. Take the punch and learn to duck next time, but also learn how to punch back. Exactly. Violence solves problems. Another great lesson for young kids, but I’ll write that blog another day. Right after I write the “Your kids should only be friends with other kids that look like them and think like them” blog. A lot of sarcasm there unless your name is Gordon. Then get ready. We are coming for you.

Remember young people are always watching. What kind of example are you???

Be kind to others. Not for them, but for you. You will love the person you become when you put the feelings and needs of other people in front of yours.

Stupid Kids

Wednesday. Hump Day. Those darn car insurance mafia people have ruined hump day for me as well. I always think about that camel walking thru the office. I will gladly lead the rebellion when it is time that we all stand together against this common enemy. White, black, yellow, green, smart, stupid, guy, girl, oak tree, slutty people, not slutty people, tall people, short people, kind, mean, in between, and pretty much ANYONE on Earth except for the gingers. I do not want those soul stealing psychos on my revolution team. Dang it. I’ll take them only to keep them off Team Car Insurance and we get to put them in Joe Biden’s children cages until combat day. Oh come on, it is just one little dig on ya…. Funny the fake outrage people aren’t clamoring for TV time now. Tell me again how they aren’t manipulating assholes. Don’t fall for it. Damn I totally forgot what my point was today. I started writing planning to get around to something, but I can’t for the life of me remember what the hell it was right now. I blame a Ginger. One of you got to me!! ***I make fun of Gingers because it is funny and they have no souls***. Just in case you wondered.

Oh yeah now I got it. I have one of my nephews staying with me this week. Many of you that follow this blog know how much I enjoy being an Uncle and I take that role seriously. Read the “Eat Your Beans” blog as it is always a good one. Young men need to be taught and guided on how to be a man. Looking people in the eye when you shake their hand, speak with a purpose, think thru your actions before you start doing anything, and most importantly you get respect when you give it. Be kind, pay attention, and never let people treat you poorly regardless of the circumstance. Make good choices and realize that sometimes the right choice is the one that benefits you personally the least. The ME ME ME attitude that is so prevalent in this world is a social cancer. People need to learn the more you do for others the better your life will be, but this takes time and the instant gratification crew have no patience for that.

Having good character is more important long term than the instant feel good now things that puts other peoples feelings and needs second to yours. To have a fulfilling life you have to build a solid foundation of doing right by others everyday regardless of what is in it for you. Class is not only in session on the weekends, evenings, or when it is convenient for you. Nope. It is 24/7. Every hour of every day is the time to show young people what it is to be a person of substance. You don’t teach by lecturing when it comes to these lessons, you teach by doing. You want the young people in your life to be good humans then actively pursue being good yourself. They will follow and are soaking up everything you do like a sponge. Make sure they are soaking up the right stuff because that’s all you put out.

School can only do so much and truthfully if you are leaving the character of the young people in your life to be molded by public school then you‘ve already failed. I talk with my nephews like they are men simply because one day God willing they will be. When they do something dumb I point it out. Not to be mean, but the complete opposite. I want them to learn and do better. There are a lot of dumbass people on this planet simply because no one loved them enough to call out their BS early on. Teenagers are supposed to be stupid. It is what they are. It is up to grown folks to remind them constantly with the goal of beating every little bit of self confidence out of them. Ha. Obviously not true. Don’t just point out the mistake, take a moment to explain why certain words or actions are not the right way, and then show (not tell) them the correct path. Show them how to be better and how great life is when you put others ahead of yourself.

Kids pick up on things so let them learn by experience. Let them see the difference of walking into a room and not saying a word to the other people in that room vs walking into said room, introducing themselves to each person, looking them in the eye and shaking hands. I’m not a parent, but I will say this, when I take my nephews with me while working I get so many compliments on them for the simple thing of them introducing themselves correctly. That in itself must mean they‘re doing something right. It is never to early to start these life lessons. Simply ask yourself this question “Do I love the young people in my life enough to show them how to become a person of character or is it too much work??”

It doesn’t matter what task you do with kids it only matters you spend time with them. I can teach the same message while throwing a football in the backyard as I can baking an apple pie. None of these things are rocket science. Finish what you start. Don’t do things half assed. Be proud of your work and when you do something do it the best you can. No one is going to make fun of a boy that baked a pie if that pie is stupid awesome tasting. They will make fun of you playing catch if you miss the ball and it hits you in the face. At least I would.

Enjoy your life, lead by example, and simply find ways to be kind to others.

Left Out….

Monday. I hope everyone is excited to tackle a new week. If you find yourself dreading the work week then it is time to start looking at how to make some changes. I’m going to say some mind blowing stuff right now so hang on tight. YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE. One. As in ONE. Here is the real kicker. None of us know how long the ride last. Due to ZERO fault on your part, your life could be done in a few hours. A few days. Heck a few years. I was blessed in the fact that I understood this at an early age. I didn’t give a F&$# what people thought about me because I woke up everyday ready to do life the way I wanted. Mind you I didn’t steal things because thieves are scum and I went out of my way to bring everyone along for the ride. I actively looked for the people usually left out so I could bring them in. I know that feeling of left out and it sucks. I truly believe you have to experience things to understand them. Maybe that is my life. I’m supposed to help others get off the bench and into the game of life. I don’t care what happens to me, I will never ride the pine.

I am reminded of a time back in the snowboarding days. Sorry I know I keep going back to this well, but I miss it. So much. Not being able to snowboard is the one thing that truly makes me so sad about the accident. It was mine. It was my meditation, my sanctuary, and my forever love. Only people that have lived that lifestyle understand how precious those moments are. I do remind myself I was lucky enough to have had the times I did. The friends that I made were more like family. We are all spread out now and most of them have kids, real jobs, and been domesticated as that is what you do. I do however know for a fact every once in a while they like me look to the sky and say a quiet thank you. We had those times that no one can ever take away from us. The flaming rail slides in my backyard, the Pantera mosh pit at 3 AM in the Leadville house, the first chair on powder days, the beers in the afternoon paid for by the green card, and the thousands of other memories I cherish. It was during this time a moment happened that I think of from time to time.

You don’t have to have special powers to be super hero to others. My real name is Allen. Some of you probably didn’t know that so boom mind blown moment. Many people ask me why the nickname Bucky. I almost never tell. The way it started was me seeing Bronson Pinchot on the Tonight show. He played Balki on the TV show perfect strangers. He said that the name Balki was a nickname he had been given while in elementary school. When asked why he got that nickname he smiled to himself and said no way was he telling. I never wanted to know something so badly. Hence from then forward I didn’t tell. Still don’t so if you are one of the trusted who know the secret, stay trusted and keep your mouth shut. The guessing is actually my favorite part. People come up with some wild stories. Makes me laugh.

There was a kid name Billy John Tom (BJT and absolutely not the real name) that worked at the mountain. He was a super nice kid, but he had a smell about him. I don’t know why and didn’t ask him. He had a massive heart and was down to help anyone anytime. I felt bad that he was alienated by his peers, but lucky for me I could help. I was popular. People looked up to me on the mountain. I’m not being arrogant just being real. I was good looking, confident, funny, and I was a pretty good snowboarder. I was also broke as F&$# every day so I had to be funny to get girls. My man BJT was not those things. Almost daily the subject of where Bucky came from would come up and people would make crazy guesses. Obviously none of them were close to the truth. It became more of a game than people actually wanting to know I believe, but again the mystery part of it made it fun.

One night after work I was having a few beers (like 40 probably) with a beautiful girl from Columbia (the Country), and my guy BJT was there. Maybe one day I’ll write a blog about the girl and her roommate. Or maybe not. The subject of the nickname came up and I decided right there I was going to tell BJT the truth. I asked him to keep it to himself which he did, but from that moment on he knew something nobody else did. He was “in” a small group and felt welcomed. He felt like he belonged. I am good at reading people and knowing (most times) what to say to make them feel better about themselves. First of all to do this you can’t lie. Whatever you tell someone to lift them up must be true or it will only cause more hurt. Lying is never the right option. I was still pretty young in those days, and I’m not sure what made me want to tell BJT the secret. I never regretted doing so.

He never told a soul what my secret was and I couldn’t buy a more loyal friend. He knew I didn’t have to tell him, but I did out of kindness and he appreciated it. I bet if I become famous and someone offered him $100,000 dollars to tell the story there is a good chance he would turn it down. Mainly because my other crap bag friends would do it for $11.47 which makes them pricks. The $.47 is a shout out to my favorite transgender friend that reads this blog.

Look for the person that feels left out and then find a way to get them in. It will make you feel great to do and just might change someone’s life in the process. You don’t know someone’s history and everyone at the end of the day simply wants to be part of the group, to be accepted, and just have friends. I’ve always told myself that I’ll be that friend and do all I can to make sure someone isn’t left out. You don’t have to travel around the globe to make a difference in the world. Sometimes you can make a difference in the room you’re currently standing in.

Do kind things.

OUTRAGE!!!

Okay. I have made a concentrated effort to avoid politics in this blog and trust me I will continue to do so forever and ever because it is truly pointless to bitch on this forum or any other. For all of my friends that constantly post political memes and articles on FB please don’t. It does nothing to further your cause or ideas. People pass over it rolling their eyes if they disagree and the only people that care are the same three friends that “like” all of your posts. I have a true purpose to say this and hopefully it will resonate with some of you because personally I’m so over the BS. I have to assume there are millions of other Americans that feel the same way.

What BS Bucky?? I’m glad you asked. Hang on, I’m going to type fast now. Not that it matters because you read at a second grade level. Little words okay. The fake outrage DAILY by everyone is stupid. Yep or dumb if stupid is to many syllables. It is never ending crap and completely unauthentic (going to have to get your kid to help you with that one) at its core. You aren’t outraged. You know what outrage is?? Tell you what, meet me at Walmart and I’ll have a perfect stranger walk up and smack your 4 year old kid for looking at candy bars because they have sugar in them. That feeling you get right before you go ape shit crazy, that is outrage. So if that is the actual feeling you get every time some media guy/gal takes a statement out of context and sprints to a microphone for a sound bite you got issues. It is simply red meat for the partisan crybabies waiting for their next hit of “gotcha.” Give it to me baby!! Make me mad TV.

So stop. Normal people are not that far apart from each other. STOP watching the crap news and talk to people in your neighborhood. How you going to let CNN tell you the neighbor across the street is a racist, homophobic, misogynistic prick for having a Trump sign in his yard?? Walk across the street and have a conversation with the guy/gal!! The thing is most people already do this, but that doesn’t drive ratings up so knock it off.

Personally I hate people. All of them. I don’t have time to hate a group for the color of their skin because that would take time away from hating the gays. Obviously when I’m not trying to get an 18 year old chubby girl to sleep with me, I hate women also. I haven’t talked to my sisters in years simply because they have a vagina. I should say I assume they do. Sometimes Shannon is a bigger dick than any man on the planet so, but I wouldn’t know because women are the enemy of my hate filled schedule. Do you have any idea how stupid all of that sounds??

Hello FOX NEWS. Tell me who to hate today. That AOC and her save the planet BS. How dare she??? Oh man, there they go, giving money away to lazy people don’t want to work. I don’t actually pay taxes, but if I did then I would super pissed. Stop using MY make believe money to help someone who needs it. You better be drug testing them all twice a day. Yeah I’m against wasting money on less fortunate bums, but I’m all for spending twice as much to drug test them in the chance we can catch one of these freeloaders with pot in their system. How dare Nancy Pelosi have ice cream in her freezer!? The good kind too. I’m so OUTRAGED. No you’re not. You’re a Dick that is easily manipulated.

You allow people you’ve never met tell you how to treat or feel about the people around you. That is just sad. I beg of you to simply take a step back, take a deep breath, and relax. There are a lot of amazing people in the world if you would just take the time to pay attention. Everyone is not going to think exactly as you do. That doesn’t make them wrong. They are a result of the experiences they had in life up until the point you meet them. You don’t know what people have been thru, witnessed, or what they are currently dealing with. So stop. Stop being a “yes person” for the fake outrage crowd that depends on you to blindly follow them because it gives them power. I stopped years ago as I’m as guilty as everyone else. It does nothing to further a conversation, bring people together, and nothing to work towards our common goal of making the world a better place for the young that will inherit this planet. Be a bridge builder, show your children what it is to be the bigger person (not Krispy Creme big person), and simply, kill those around you with kindness especially when they DON’T deserve it.

Just for today take a pause. Think about what you are actually doing sharing the latest ‘outrage” meme that will get 3 likes, one of them being from Cousin Suzanne that likes everything on FB three seconds after you post. We all have that person. Stop being miserable and stop trying to make others miserable over things that are out of your control. Control what you can starting with your attitude and how you treat others. Pay attention and talk to those in your community, get to know them, and if you still hate them then move. Life is to darn short to be angry all the time. It takes all of us to heal. It takes all of us to be the bigger person. It takes all of us to care enough about the future to sacrifice some of our pride today.

Do kind things expecting nothing in return. Happy Friday.

Be Kind

I want to write today, but I’m having trouble finding a good topic to rant or go on about. There is one thing that I have had on my mind for a while now and I think I’ll ask your help on this. I talk often about doing random acts of kindness. Just pick up a funny card and mail it to a friend for the hell of it. I do this and actually sent out 4 cards yesterday that I found on Etsy. Cost me $14 for the cards, used 4 stamps (and gave one away – you’re welcome Moonbeam!), and a few moments of my precious time to write something funny in the cards. Oh yeah I did put $40 in one of the cards and told the person receiving the card to please spend that money on something irresponsible and stupid. I do believe she reads my blogs so it might be you if you have a vagina. A real one and not the make believe kind that allows you to dominate women’s sports. I don’t participate or watch women’s sports so I don’t care to be honest. I do think it sucks for young ladies that put in the work, time, blood, sweat, tears, and all to get 2nd place because a one time man decided the competition was easier on the other side. Spare me your “hater” comments. I don’t care.

Okay back to the project I need help with. I want to start a page or group called Random Acts of Kindness where people can post what they did that day to a perfect stranger. If you just laughed at that sentence because your sense of humor is gutter, then that is why we are friends. I’m not looking for a place to brag unless you’re the type that needs that type of recognition. My reasoning is that hopefully people will want to post something so they actually do it. Over and over again. Maybe if someone shares what they did it will inspire others and give them ideas. Everyone keeps talking about healing the country and bringing people together, but if you are dumb enough to think the jerks in DC are going to do that you are going to be disappointed. A LOT. It is up to us to fix the divide in this country. Turn the 24 hours news channel off (forever) and go outside to hug a Trump supporter or a Biden supporter. It is that easy. In fact it is EXACTLY that easy.

The anger, disrespect, and over all nastiness regular people have some how become capable of is pretty disgusting. I am talking to you. I’m talking to all of us. It needs to stop and needs to stop tonight, right now, and never be turned back on. I don’t wanna hear Trump said this or that, I don’t wanna hear Biden did this and that, or any of the other BS excuses people are making to legitimize their horrible behavior and attitudes towards fellow humans. You are guilty of it. The comments of “If you think X, you can delete me as your friend right now.” That is a cop out, a crap way to handle any situation, and if YOU are so morally superior to the rest of us wouldn’t it make sense to go hug that person. Embrace them as a human and say we disagree, but I love you and want the world to be a better place so I’m going to be your friend and lead by example. I’m going to SHOW you why I’m right about this everyday of my life. Holy shit you mean what Bucky?? I have to actually be a bigger person, show the world how to be better, and stop TELLING everyone how much better I am than they are on the Facebook. You ask to much Bucky.

Baby steps I get it. So I would like to start with one random act of kindness. Just do one thing a day to make someone smile. Mail a card, tell a stranger their hair looks nice, make an extra sandwich to give the guy at the stop light on your way to work, or think of some other awesome thing that will make others say I can do that. Here is the deal. Sitting around waiting for the worthless pricks in government to suddenly pass a law that says everyone be nice is the dumbest idea ever. It is not difficult to understand or to do. Just be kind to everyone regardless of politics, race, gender, or any of the other stupid shit you allow to influence how you interact with others. You want someone to respect you and look up to you then treat that person with respect. Show them a better way. STOP telling people in a FB post that they are less of a human because they disagree with you. Seriously who the fuck are you??? I don’t remember electing any of my friends to judge me or others on a daily basis.

So now that I’ve got that off my chest how do I accomplish this??? I want to start a place (FB group or Page) that encourages everyone to simply be kind to everyone else regardless of anything past. Wake up tomorrow and look at EVERY single person on the planet like they have a brand new everything. A clean slate if you will. Wow, I bet we could make a difference in a short amount of time.

Do acts of kindness and expect nothing in return.

Are you a winner??

Sunday. NFC Champoinship game is on now and I get to watch the Packers play at least one more game this year. As I type this now we are down by 7 and Rodgers just got sacked on the 5 yard line. Damn it. I’m passionate about them and obviously want them to win. We all want our team to win, to be better than others, and we all love that feeling we get when winning. For most people it is addicting and you want that feeling all the time regardless of what happens to the “loser” or the other side. You want your win. Everyone is guilty of it one way or another. You don’t like football, take your pick on the other wins we gotta have including arguments with friends/family, proving a co-worker wrong, and the big one right now politics.

I had the pleasure of living next door to a NFL player for a couple years. He lived in the apartment right next to mine so I got to know him and his young family pretty well. I would tease him often about the Packers. Once I told him someone keyed his brand new HellCat charger and watched all the happy drain out of his face as I said “Yeah man, someone wrote GO PACK GO right on your hood. He laughed saying “you got me good there.” I share this as there is a point to my blah blah blah.

Time went by and that year in November the Packers came to town to play the Panthers. It was a crazy week leading up to the game and on game day I went to Packers tailgate party outside of the stadium as we all know Packer fans travel well. My good friend whom we call Rowdy won 2 tickets to the game and generously asked me if I wanted to go. Hell Yeah I wanted to go. Next thing I know I’m in the stadium getting ready to watch my team play the home team. For the record this was the day “I’m goooood brahh…” became a saying. The story behind that is a freaking great one, but you don’t get to hear that one today.

Prior to leaving for the tailgate party I had purchased a greeting card saying good luck and wrote a nice note in it for my Panther player next door. I came to really like him and his wife. It was funny he was always offering to carry things for me like the water jugs I get delivered, but I was scared he would pull a muscle in his back and then Panther nation would blame me for losing our cornerback. Okay getting off topic again. I wanted to wish my friend luck even though it was going against my team winning. I had been giving him shit for 4 months prior to this game and loved every second of it.

In the note I told him that to me it was simply a game. I wanted my team to win because it is natural and I wanted my “high” for the day. I thought about it that week though coming to the conclusion that it was just a game. To him it was his livelihood and the way he took care of his family. I realized it was bigger than me. In your rush to be right, to win, take a moment to pause and try to identify with who you are beating. There is a good chance you don’t know the back story, how that person got to where they are, and no matter how flipping right you think you are, there is a chance you’re not. Sometimes in life the end result that benefits you the most is not the best ending. I know in your selfish mind you can’t even grasp that concept.

The Packers lost that day. My neighbor shut down Randall Cobb for the game and it was great to see that for him. My neighbor was very happy when I saw him later that evening. He thanked me for the note and said the whole Panther team gave that note credit for the win that day. Okay that didn’t happen although he did thank me for the note. I ended up feeling better that night than I would have if the Packers won that game. I think about that day, that game, and that night from time to time when I need perspective on what is actually more important in my life and the lives of other humans.

It is the fourth quarter now so I’m done here. Just remember being a good human usually means doing the opposite of winning.

Go Pack Go.
