You are blessed

What are you thankful for today?? Simple question, but do you ever stop and ask yourself?? I spend my days helping people in difficult situations. The things these individuals have to endure make my challenges look like a speed bump in a brand new parking lot. It truly helps me put things into perspective and I feel like it is almost my duty to share some of these experiences with all of you. I promise if you read the next three paragraphs you will be so eff’ing thankful for your life just how it is right now.

I was recently asked to deliver a table by a company in FL. It isn’t what I do, I was annoyed by it, but could tell the gentlemen asking me was becoming desperate to find someone to handle this small task. I know how that goes. Anyone know people that do Sheetrock? Okay back on topic. This delivery is such a small thing to me, but I have to remind myself that it is massive to the customer that needs this piece of specialized equipment. I gave them my usual fee of $10,000 per hour and they countered with $50 total. I accepted. I can get shrimp flavored ramen this week baby!!

Turns out it isn’t just a delivery. I had to go out to measure the world, pick the right product, fill out all the paperwork, submit it, receive the specialty table, assemble it, and then drive back out there to deliver it. Goodbye shrimp flavor……. I found out the customer has a pressure sore so I changed my schedule to go out immediately. They also asked if I could make sure his air mattress was functioning correctly. Again not what I do, but I certainly can and pressure sores are no joke so if I can help anyone avoid that horrid highway, I throw my cape on and drive fast.

Regardless, I was less than enthusiastic to do all this, but it needed to be done and I was the guy asked to do it. I reminded myself of that and put my best smile on. It truly is my favorite outfit. I knocked on the apartment door, a gorgeous young lady opened the door saying something, but I couldn’t hear a dang thing as 4 yappy dogs were going berserk-O! My sister used to talk about getting a dog like that when she gets older and then name it Dammit so she can scream at it.

“Shut up Dammit”

”Get over here Dammit”

Haha. Let me know what commands you would yell at Dammit in the comments.

I was led inside of a very small, but clean apartment. The neighborhood wasn’t the best in Charlotte, but it was clear a lot of hard working people lived here and I can respect that. I saw a large wedding photo on the wall surrounded by lots of smaller ones showing a loving family. I enjoy being welcomed into peoples homes and seeing their lives. The smile is genuine. I was led down a hallway, into the back bedroom, and as the door opened I saw him. All of the air left my lungs while a slight feeling of shame came over me for not wanting to do this task. I realized then I would have done it for free if someone had explained to me what was actually going on.

The man laying on the air mattress was the same one standing tall in that wedding photo. That photo. Still burned into my mind. The beautiful bride smiling in such bright truly happy way. The type of smile that screams “This is the best day of my life”. I didn’t have to ask what the worst day was. This young man was a quadriplegic. He is unable to move his arms and legs, unable to lift his head, and still has the trach in for when breathing becomes too difficult on his own. I believe he was hit by a drunk driver while working. I don’t know the exact story and I never ask because it isn’t my business. Sometimes people share, but I never ask for details simply because I don’t like anyone to relive the worst moment on Earth for me. Think about that before your morbid curiosity kicks in next time.

I thought about my complaining the last week about having to pay $180 to a stupid parking company. I needed this reminder of what true hardship is and immediately told myself that the Bucky pity party was officially over. My life isn’t the easiest, but I have so many blessings. So do you. If you’re not laying on your back staring at a ceiling unable to move then you’re blessed. I’m a writer. I don’t get paid to do it, yet, but I truly believe one day I will. I feel like today my job is to make you aware of just how awesome you are and amazing your life is right now. Your job is to remember that.

Change

Hump day!! Que the camel. Those commercials are great. The first time I saw it I thought “this is stupid” and then I was bombarded with it 79 times a day for 3 years straight until I started to yell “HUUUMMMP DAAAY” in the office. We fear change no matter what it is, distrust the unknown, and simply accept what is normal EVEN if it isn’t good for us. Why Bucky? What did I tell you yesterday about asking me questions?? Don’t worry I already forgot too.

Fearing the unknown is in our DNA. We are programmed to just go with what we know. That is why advertisers spend BILLIONS of dollars every year to show you their product over and over again. Insurance agencies (I hate them), food, beer, and on and on do this because they know if they get you to buy just one time you are likely to simply choose their product the next time instead of trying something new. Every thing you do has been calculated, discussed, and agreed upon in a board room somewhere two years before you make that decision. Creepy huh.

I recently heard a quote that has stuck with me and I’m going to share it with you. For free. Don’t worry I don’t expect you to do anything with it. Heck I’m surprised you have spent 45 seconds reading this blog. Please do not panic I assure you that video of puppies licking windows will can be there when you be done getting more smarter by reading this. Yeah I wrote it that way on purpose. Ready for some mind blowing knowledge? “If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it.” Read it again.

When you accept something that means you are choosing it. I accept my salary. I accept my job. I accept my body. I accept my childrens behavior. That means you choose those things. No I don’t Bucky!! I want a better paying job, I want better health, I want my children to not act like a-holes…. You can say those things, but the facts are simple and everyone can see them. If you aren’t actively working to change the things in your life it proves you made the decision you like them the way they are. Yeah, I had to realize I was making crap decisions for myself too, but the revolution came once I had the epiphany that I held the power to improve EVERYTHING.

I just like this picture of Annie from yesterday so I added it. Back to actual blog now….

A simple 15 minute workout. Reading a book for an hour at night instead of watching a Criminal Minds rerun (love that show) for the 9th time. Putting the beer down and spending time with kids doing something constructive instead of leaving them to fend for themselves until bedtime. I’m not a parent, but it doesn’t take a genius to know kids just want you to pay attention to them and will do whatever it takes to get time from you. Why not make it positive is all I’m saying?

If you’re not changing it, you’re choosing it. I know you didn’t read it again like I told you so I decided to write it again. It is cool the more I write it the more I will follow my own advice. I write for me and simply decide to share with you. I choose to lead by example in everything I do. I’m most accountable to myself and believe you should do the same. Stop worrying about what other people think because they don’t give a crap about you. In fact they want you to suck. It makes them feel better about their crap decisions. The best thing you can do to get back at anyone that ever doubted you is to succeed and become amazing! I promise that will never happen if you don’t start doing something different.

ENOUGH

Saddle up boys and girls. Today is a strong message that has been 46 years in the making. Your attention span is short so I won’t waste time playing with your mind while I finally get the to point. I recently went to Washington DC and absolutely loved most of it. My hotel was insanely expensive and the staff was 50% stupid, but that makes sense because half the government is made up of morons. We can argue which half another day because your opinion like mine means nothing. This message today is for 100% of the people so I hope you find some pride in it and possibly share it with others. Yeah I’m asking for you to spread these words I’m writing today. Please.

I called my Dad and told him I was in DC. He immediately asked if I was going to visit the Vietnam memorial or wall as some call it. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I hadn’t thought of it before he asked, but I’m sure I would have. My visit there was very last minute and my first goal was to see the White House. When I got off the phone I wondered how I could be so dumb to not have that as my first stop, but I’m far from perfect as all of you already know. I decided then to do something special although I wasn’t sure what that would look like.

My Dad aka My Hero graduated high school in 1967 and I doubt any of his teachers would have called him gifted in academics. Ironically the movie the Graduate came out in 1967 FYI. College wasn’t in his immediate future, but I can attest that the man is incredibly smart when it comes to things that matter. You want it fixed, he can do it. You want it shot, he will hit it with the first bullet. You want a story told with pizazz, he is your guy. You want someone with heart to listen to your problems, there isn’t a human alive with more caring in his words. With college out of the question and a questionable night driving a fast car he was volunteered to the ARMY, 1st Air Cavalry. This country was at war in a far off place and he said “I’ll Go!”

What happened over there was awful. I’ve read many books to try and understand what he went through, but none of them are enough. I call it the great/horrid theory. Try describing a great sunset to someone that wasn’t there even with pictures. You always end up saying “you had to see it, the pictures don’t do it justice.” Now think about someone trying to describe absolute horror. Even with pictures and all the adjectives in the English language we can’t begin to understand the disgustingly awful things these 18 year old boys had to endure. The books I have read made me want to throw up and that is just someone relaying the experience. You can’t let experiences like those go no matter how much substance you take. Some went to drugs, some went to alcohol, some just took their lives, and all of them lucky enough to come home were forever changed.

I decided to make a sign and hold it up at the wall as a tribute to the sacrifice my Father and others made in that far off country that now manufactures corporations products dirt cheap. We can talk about that second part another day. 58,220 Americans died in that awful war. Many of you, like me read that number and breezed right by it, but when you see that wall with the tiny letters engraved into it and how freaking big it is that number hits different. Very different. To me I saw 58,220 families that never were. FknBucky’s that never got to get born because they were lost in an argument. It makes me cry when I think about it. My father was one of the lucky ones that survived and was able to over come all of the horrible he witnessed to start a family. That doesn’t mean he is perfect. In fact he will be the first to admit he made mistakes along the way, but he is still here which is a testament to his incredible strength and I love him for it.

I drove to Staples and got a large poster board, a metal sign stand, and some markers to take back to my hotel. I then made my sign free hand and accidentally drew the N backwards as you can see in the picture. I should have bought a spare board, but sometimes when things are done on a whim and from the heart they are imperfect. I then headed out from my hotel for the 1 mile journey to the Vietnam memorial with my stand, poster, and service dog. I didn’t really take into account how difficult that was going to be, but I had already committed. I know this is a long blog today, but I assure you the ending is worth it so stay with me.

I rolled up and found a respectful place to set up. I started to pull things out, put my stand together, and purposely kept the words hidden to not spoil the surprise. It was about 1 PM, the sky was blue, the air was about 60 degrees, and the memorial was quite busy with spring break groups walking by constantly. I saw some kids place letters at the wall like the one I photographed above. I finished setting up, Annie sat next to me, and we quietly watched people walk by. I was sweating and nervous thinking “what the F am I doing??” These people are going to laugh at me, they won’t get it, some might get mad, I should just take a photo and leave. I didn’t leave. I stayed and smiled at people as they read my sign.

It read: These Men Died, My Father Survived, I hope I’m, ENOUGH

It didn’t take long for people to smile back. A few men wearing Veteran hats gave me a thumbs up. Soon a Vietnam Veteran came by to thank me for what I was doing. He said he thought it was going to be a pro Hamas sign, but showed a large toothless smile when he read what I had written. A good number of people stopped to ask me about my Dad and eventually told me to thank him for his sacrifice, some asked me why I made the sign, and some tried to put money in Annie’s water bowl. Haha. I didn’t accept any money, but was appreciative anyone would want to give and asked them to buy a homeless person a meal instead. There are a lot of homeless people in DC so they didn’t have to go far.

Many people looked at me and mouthed the words “You are Enough”. I want to stress that I am blessed to be here. I’m blessed to be my father’s child. My life, like his, has been full of hardships, but it has also been a beautiful journey of happy wonderful times. My father taught me to focus on the good in life, he taught me to face my problems head on, over come them, and then let go of the bad. He taught me to find the humor in everything. Those words are much easier to say than do, but we never stop trying. Those people were right. I am enough, but more importantly so is my Father.

This photo is my Dad’s 70th birthday. This man has made a large impact on many lives.

This blog, like my day in DC, sitting in the sun at the Vietnam Memorial is a tribute and dedicated to Victor McKinley. My hero. He is enough. He always has been.

Thank you Dad for being ENOUGH.

Russian Pothead

Got another Pothead back from Russia. Maybe Americans should stop smuggling weed into that country so we don’t have to beg Putin to get them back. Just a thought. Not really my thing for this blog these days, but I will do a quick FknBucky public service announcement: Don’t take weed, marijuana, herb, green, wacky tabacky, or ganja into Russia. Pfffft! Easier said than done says 22 year old Bucky. For the record 22 year old Bucky was so cool.

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about the guy, but I’m happy for him and his family. I traveled in Europe about 10 years ago and I was very aware that I wasn’t in my homeland. I was in a different place with their rules and I’m considered a risk taker by many, but I promise I didn’t F around because I didn’t want to find out. I’m not going to pick on this guy. Haha. Of course I am. Doing drugs is stupid, doing them in other countries with VERY strict laws is really really dumb.

Don’t take weed to Russia. Don’t do heroin in Malaysia because they will kill you. Same with Saudi Arabia, yeah, you get the death penalty for selling drugs there. I made lots of bad decisions growing up and it is what it is. I’m not proud of some of those choices, but they got me to where I am right now today. All things aside I’m alive, mostly healthy, and I have the greatest family along with some of the greatest friends a human could ask for from all over the world. I’m not sure what the title will be at this point because I have no idea where this is going to end up.

Truth is I want to be in the habit of writing everyday. Scratch that I write everyday, but I want to publish everyday. I think it is important to keep me on track. The messages I put in these blogs are my accountability mirror. I read this 50 times by the time I publish it. Think back to the messages in my blogs and now imagine if you read that message fifty times a day. We are what we consume. You are what you eat. Funny joke right, but it is true. Same is true with your mind.

If you listen to songs about drugs, drinking, and sleazy habits all day that is what you will think about. Let’s go on this new obligation journey together. Try listening, reading, and speaking things that are positive and will keep you uplifted throughout the day. I assure you that it works and will make a difference in your daily life. Give it a shot. Or….. Grab some blunts and fly to Russia for the weekend. Twenty-two year old Bucky just might meet you at the airport.

Character and Leadership

The big game. Watching it now and just saw the interception by Hurts as a matter of fact. I was impressed by Barkley in the first quarter and wanted to write about it briefly. Maybe you will decide to read a bit for halftime….. Wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. I believe Saquon has about 7 yards so far which totally screws my bets up, but what are you going to do.

It was right after a questionable offensive pass interference call that went against the Eagles, stopped an awesome drive, and ruined a fourth down conversion. The fans booed, the coaches screamed, Tom Brady said “ I don’t agree with that”, and 50 million non Chiefs fans threw their hands up in the air screaming “SEE THE REFS ARE IN ON IT!!” Not Saquon though.

No he didn’t do that. I’ve been impressed with him all season by not playing late in games to pad stats, but would ride the pine to let the “young guys eat” as he calls it. Coming out of the game early to let some of the other players have a chance to enjoy the game they all love and have played their entire lives. That is character and no amount of money can buy it. You either have it or you suck at life.

I watched Barkley tell his teammates to “chill” and padded his arms at them to say relax it is one call in the game and there is A LOT of game left obviously. That is true leadership and it is awesome to see. That is what little kids should look up to. Not how many chains he has around his neck, how big his crib is, or how many flashy cars he has in the driveway. Those are all nice things to have, but don’t mean crap in the big scheme of things. When you are being lowered into the ground nobody is going to say “Good thing he/she had a bunch of cool cars.”

They are going to speak of your character, reliving stories of the random acts of kindness you committed, the next generation will talk about how you mentored them, shared wisdom with them, and took the time to make them better just because it is the right thing to do.

Be like Saquon.

Goggins

David Fucking Goggins. Wow. If you know the name then you know what is up. My sister in law gave me a book a few years back and told me to read it. I didn’t. In fact I unpacked that book when I got home, put it somewhere, and never saw it again. That was that. Around a year later I was scrolling IG and came across a video of someone talking to Joe Rogan about this crazy David Goggins guy. As I listened about him I thought “I have to know this person” so I googled him and started the research. I was instantly impressed and loved the fact this human existed.

I loved him so much that I had to tell my sister in law about this savage MF’er named David Goggins. She looked at me like I had a penis growing out of my forehead. It was at this moment I realized the book she gave me to read a year prior was the same one I was mansplaining to her. I’m awesome like this. Whatever. I just had to wait long enough for it to be my idea to learn about this badass human. Learn I did. I read both of his books and draw on his philosophy many times in my daily life. When you have to be a savage to simply get out of bed in the morning life hits differently.

I saw on the internet that Goggins was going to be speaking in Charlotte and immediately bought tickets to attend. It was with Aspire and if you have the opportunity to go please do. I decided to buy the advanced package so I could be up front where I belong. I’m way too good looking to be the back. Bucky is no wallflower. Front and center. Goggins came in, ran thru the crowd, and shook my hand as he went past me. I was elated to have this moment with someone I respect so much.

I can’t seem to type this damn paragraph. It keeps deleting. Four times now. I’m going to smash my iPad shortly. This blog is about to get real short or I’ll be spending $1,800 tomorrow. Goggins talked, then took questions, and I was the 3rd one to speak. I said “blah blah, you’re eff’ing great, blah blah, my story, and blah. I’ll post the actual recording on my IG tomorrow once I have time to collect it. A bunch of no longer strangers videotaped me speaking and sent it to me via text. At the end of my talking time I told David Fucking Goggins that I brought him a shirt and I’d be honored if he would take it. He did.

He then put it on in front of 3,000 people and continued his Q&A. I’m still a bit shocked it happened. I almost didn’t bring shirts with me, but at the last minute threw 2 of them in my bag. One I gave to David Meztler at lunch and the other to Goggins. About 10 minutes later Goggins looked right at me and said “I love this fucking shirt.” That is why I paid for the premium t-shirts instead of the cheap ones.

I need to write more, post more, podcast more, but right now I’m just happy. It was a wonderful moment in my life that I earned. Luck is simply when opportunity meets preparedness. Make your own luck. Read the books. Go to the events. Life hard. Be a savage. Man the F up.

Chase your dreams now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Backwards Day

Welcome back!! Those are the words I heard when I woke up in the ICU last May. Crazy to think about how far I’ve come since that day just a few months ago. I was convinced I was going to die, that is what happened, but once again I defied the odds and did not. Staring death in the face used to be a huge deal, but somehow for me it feels more like meatloaf Wednesday. Ha. I use humor to deflect if you haven’t noticed by now.

None of us know what tomorrow will bring. It might be crazy, might be mundane, might be memorable, or it might just be another day that gets lost in the sands of time. I sports bet and have the app on my phone that allows me to bet on cricket games in Ghana. I don’t do that, but I can if I wanted to. I do however bet on NFL games and which player might score a touchdown, what team may win, or a QB that will throw for over 300 yards. I win some, I lose some, but I only bet what I might have spent on a night out when I used to drink. My point is I never actually know what is going to happen until the game is played. No one does.

The future is unscripted. Just waking up each day is a blessing and I choose to look at it that way. We don’t know what is going to happen to us each day, but there is something we can control. There is something we can plan, something we can foresee, something we can predict 100% of the time. To a gambler a prediction that never fails is a prayer answered, a dream come true, a Big Bang Theory blessing that once proven would be worth a fortune!! Now in this blog I’m about to give it to you for free. How can that be Bucky?? I’ll tell you why. It is because I love you.

What is this magic you speak of?? What can I control?? Hold on tight and take a deep breath. Your attitude. BOOM. No matter what happens in your life, you have the ability to control how you react to it, how you accept it, and how you treat others around you during it. Much easier said than done. I’m more guilty than anyone of letting my circumstances and environment control my emotions instead of me taking the reins when needed. I’m not proud of that, but I understand it which allows me to change it. You can’t improve yourself unless you admit you have some flaws. Acknowledging your imperfections isn’t a weakness and should never be looked at as such.

Being aware of your attitude is POWER. Who doesn’t want power?? Try not getting angry today. Try reacting to a situation in the complete opposite way your initial emotions tell you to. Someone takes your parking spot, tell them it is okay, they must be in a huge hurry and very important. See the shame in their face as they realize how selfish they are. Your kid makes a huge mess, don’t yell at them, understand they are probably bored and spend time doing a craft with them. Look I’m all for beating kids any chance you get, but tomorrow they will piss you off again and you can scream at them double loud. For today react backwards and see how your family, your colleagues, and the world reacts to you. You just might be surprised.

Thank you

I have a dozen blogs in my head right now, but this one is way overdue. I grew up in rural Iowa, driving around on gravel roads, drinking beer on random bridges, and raising hell anyway I could without fear of punishments. I somehow understood the razor edge and spent a lot of time on it loving the adrenaline that came with being a bad boy without actually being a bad human. I always worked, never stole anything from anyone, and simply liked drinking Busch lights a long time before I was 21. This habit drew me a lot of attention from Johnny Law and let me tell you (Trump voice), I got a lot of attention from this guy, like way more than anyone else….

I hated cops. They took my beer away. I paid for that I would say. Jerks. I’d yell “We are just trying to have some fun, we aren’t hurting anyone, go solve a crime you not nice guys.” Ha. I’m sure you can think of the words that I actually would use. I won’t give the actual number possessions under the legal age I had while living in Iowa, but I will say it was more than 5 and less than 2,003. I’m over 21 now, just barely.., so I don’t have to worry about the police taking my beer away anymore.

Today is a thank you. A long overdue thank you. I’m thanking my former enemy. The Tama County (Iowa) Sheriffs department. For those of you that may not know a friend of mine, Ryan Cooper, was murdered in Traer, Iowa on June 18th, 2021. It was vicious, it was evil, it was the most cold blooded act I’ve ever seen in life, and it took over 2 years for an arrest to be made. His wife and her lover are now in a cage awaiting trial and will be found guilty of this horrid, pathetic, and cowardly act. Why would you thank them if it took over two years Bucky?? I’m going to tell you right now.

I was at the funeral. It was incredibly hard. I saw friends I haven’t seen in 20 years, we gave the awkward smile of hello, good to see you, but no joyous moment because the reason we were together still hadn’t set it yet. I saw Dennis Kucera the Sheriff of Tama County. He didn’t smile at all. He was in uniform. He was working. This is a small town. We all know each other and have history. His son and the Ryan were very close friends and I can’t imagine the strength it took to stand there on that day. I can’t imagine the drive to work everyday passing friends and neighbors who keep asking the same question “Why can’t you make an arrest??” I can’t imagine passing the house it happened in and then passing the house the murderer was now living in with her children on the way to work every single day.

Dennis had to keep it professional. He couldn’t explain all the work going on, all the red tape, all the waiting for transcripts and text messages, and how they had to wait to make sure the case was air tight to hopefully keep the guilty in prison forever. Many of us wondered who did it and came to the same conclusion over and over. There simply wasn’t anyone else it could be, but yet it took SO LONG to get an arrest. It was frustrating for us, but I can’t imagine being the man responsible for catching the killer of the man who was in his son’s wedding.

I don’t mention people by name in my blog often, but today is special. I want to thank Dennis Kucera and the Tama County Sheriff department for not giving up, for keeping it professional, and for arresting the monsters that stole our brother. #BuschLightBrotherhood

The trial will come, they will be found guilty, and then spend the rest of their lives in prison. No joy from any of it. A senseless crime that stole a loving father from his children and will take their mother away as well. They are the ultimate victims and my heart breaks for them. I ask that everyone remembers Ryan how he was in life and not the evil way he was taken from us. His smile, his eagerness to help a friend, and the sound of him cracking open that cold Busch Light after working all day is how I choose to remember my friend.

Thank you Tama County.

I wish I was your lover

DAMN! I wish I was your lover…..

What a song. Brought back some great memories the other day from a time that seems like yesterday, but I realize it was almost 30 years ago. Some of the girls I went to school with would say “Damn” and then I would sing (very very poorly) the “wish I was your lover” part. It became a thing and truth be told I’m not sure how it started. I think it was because I had a huge crush on one of them, but some secrets are meant to be kept…..

Grandpa was right. Go read a few blogs back if you don’t know the reference. I’m happy for those moments, those times when a song comes on the radio and I’m immediately transported back to a particular night or memory that makes me smile. I’m lucky enough to still have a memory after my 20’s so I count that in the blessing column for sure. We all have bad moments in life and that is perfectly natural so embrace them. Understand that they will pass. This year has been a freaking crazy one for me, but seeing a post on FB about a song melted all the hardship away in a moment. I smiled and life was good again.

A song on the radio. A car driving by. A shirt you see. An old picture in a box you find. A city. I have all of these things and more that remind me of amazing moments I’ve had in life. It isn’t luck they happened, these moments were made possible by showing up to the party, saying yes to that voice in my head, and simply putting myself out there. It is important to encourage the kids around you (your own kids, nieces and nephews, step kids, random D-Bag kid that keeps walking on your yard) to take the chances needed to make these special memories. We all see what happens when kids are isolated.

Sanitarium by Metallica and Damn, I wish I was your lover (kinda forgot about that one….). Chevy Lumina (couple of them). Obviously seeing anyone in a FknBucky shirt!! I have hundreds of pictures in boxes. ROME. These are just some of the special memories that I keep in my head to make me smile when I need it the most. When you have a tough time happening take a minute to go back to one of your special moments and simply smile. I promise whatever hardship won’t seem so hard when you look back at it.

Scott Wood Photo (Amazing)

Beauty. Funny word. Means many different things to just about everyone. What is beautiful to you?? A view? A woman? A man? A car? Truck? An experience? All of them? For me it is very simple. A look in the mirror. I’m one beautiful human. Life hasn’t been an easy path for me and it hasn’t been for you either, but we all must work at keeping our confidence. If you don’t work at it who will do it for you? I promise the world will only try to kill your confidence not help grow it. Surround yourself with people that only have your best interest in mind or life becomes unnecessarily harder.

I was playing frisbee with Annie the other day and saw a walking stick crawling across the cement floor of this little shack we use for shade at the park. I can’t remember ever seeing one in the “wild” before, but I was enamored with it. Maybe I was jealous of that darn stick that can walk…. Haha It was gorgeous and I couldn’t stop watching it slowly crawl across the floor to nowhere. Just endless cement, but it didn’t know that because it could only see/sense what is right in front of it. I could see the path he was traveling was a futile one so I kept trying to steer it another way, but that darn stubborn stick fought me no matter what I did. I remember thinking this must be how God or Big Bang Theory feels watching me live my life.

Sometimes the most inspirational things are complete surprises to us, but we must be patient enough to see them. Learning to me is beautiful. I simply love to learn anything new and watching that bug taught me lessons I had no idea I needed when I woke up that morning. I moved it off the cement into some rocks, but then thought it was a stick not a rock so that was no good. I grabbed a twig and it crawled onto it almost immediately so I rolled about 50 feet away into some wood chips. I found a small tree, put that walking stick onto a branch, and watched it for a couple minutes. It only took about 30 seconds for uncoordinated idiot to fall off. Kind of like me.

It didn’t hit the ground though. A small strand of something came out of its butt, it hung about 4 inches from the branch, and I was about to “save” it when something remarkable happened. It started to climb up this string that came out of it. As it blew around in the wind that darn bug got closer and closer to the branch I put it on until it made it back to safety. I had been in awe of this creature for 20 minutes and thought it had no more beauty to see, but like many times in my life I was wrong.

There is more beauty inside yourself if you just take the time to see it. Once you can see it, then and only then, can the world see it.
