DJ deserves better

Hump day. One of my favorites. I won’t waste a lot of your time today with witty roundabout sentences to get to my point. I spent 7 years volunteering at a childrens hospital in San Diego, opening a playroom from 6-8pm every Tuesday night. It was burdensome at times as anyone that makes any kind weekly commitment can relate to. I grew to love those Tuesdays for more reasons than I can ever put in a daily blog, but that isn’t exactly what I want to speak about today.

Over that 7 years I witnessed children battle horrid diseases for months and sometimes years. They were weak, pale, and moved very slowly while attached to machines that would beep all the time. They wore hospital gowns and slippers as they shuffled from one table to another trying to distract themselves from the crap reality they were stuck with. Those images and moments changed my life and EVERYONE should take the time to volunteer at some point in their lives to fully understand what I’m writing about.

Last night as President Trump acknowledged an extremely brave young man who has had 14 brain surgeries in his young life. At the age 8 years old DJ Daniel was diagnosed with brain cancer and I wouldn’t wish this battle on anyone in the world, and certainly not a child. DJ doesn’t vote. He isn’t a republican. He didn’t ask to have this fight. In fact he isn’t supposed to be alive. He was told he would die in 5 months, but somehow by the grace of God or Big Bang Theory this young man has defied the odds and was able to attend the joint address by President Trump last night.

I’m disgusted that anyone refused to stand, refused to applaud this incredible American, and acknowledge the strength he has shown to go thru everything he faced over the last 6 years. I’ve gone into surgery, faced death, and been in the hospital for months and I’ll tell you it sucks. It is scary. The world carries on while you’re stuck in a bed. You can hate President Trump all you want, but to not give this young man the respect he is due is indefensible. Anyone that tries to defend it can go love themselves as the Beibs would say.

President Trump was just parading him out there for propaganda Bucky! Who cares?? Does that mean his story is less incredible?? Would anyone have heard about it if he wasn’t mentioned last night?? I try to find positive things to write about and this is a positive story, but unfortunately 1/2 the room is so blinded by HATE they couldn’t see it. If this country can’t stand up together and say “We love you” to DJ then we have no hope to ever come together.

DJ doesn’t set foreign policy, he doesn’t set immigration policy, he doesn’t work for DOGE, he doesn’t vote, and he didn’t deserve to have 50% of the room sit stoically while the rest of the country cheered for him. I’m glad he had this moment. I’m so grateful President Trump took the time to honor this incredibly brave young American. If you’re not, I believe it is time to look in the mirror and ask yourself where things went wrong.

God Bless you DJ. Keep fighting as millions of Americans are behind you, praying for you, and hoping that dream of becoming a law enforcement officer comes true for you.

Power Wine

Ahhh the power company. We all need power and there is no competition so regardless of what the bill says, we have to pay it. Some of us could go back to having a campfire in our living room for heat and cooking our ramen noodles over the open flame like those that came before us, but you and I both know that isn’t happening. I get my bill and have noticed every single month there is a $49 monthly service fee. This is something that is definitely going to piss me off once I learn there is nothing I can do about it, but I’m a gluten for punishment so I make the call. No safe word needed, the MAN is going to make sure I enjoy this financial raping.

I ask my question and was told “Hang on my computer is running slow” by the very kind woman on the phone. I will be clear it isn’t her fault, she is simply first line at the S&M power company. We have some small talk for a few minutes about the weather, snow, and puppies until her screen finally populates with the answer. She says “That is a fee we charge every month to cover the cost of the poles and other stuff.” End quote. Wtf. She knew that answer long before the screen came up. All that was accomplished is I’m out $49 and now it hurts to sit down.

LUCKILY though they have juuuusssstt enough money left over to make a magazine. Yep when telephone poles don’t get hit by drunk drivers they use our monthly service fee to publish a magazine. There are no ads in it because.. wait for it. WE PAY FOR IT. Awesome. Anyone know how much it costs to print these full color magazines?? I do and it isn’t cheap. Wait a second, isn’t Bucky supposed to write positive things?? Don’t get your panties bunched up, I’m about to see the light!

This months issue has a bit of home in it. FOX RIDGE WINERY has a full page write up in this unwanted $49 monthly subscription. Not their fault. I know this awesome family from back in the day and they are amazing people that are always willing to lend a helping hand. Like if during a large snow storm a car goes into the ditch near their home. Thanks again for that by the way. I will say a tax was paid via the cold ones left behind…

The $49 fee sucks, but like all of you I’ll pay it. From now on though I’ll smile because it will make me think of the Sedas and all the hard work they have put into building this amazing local business near Traer, Iowa. I hope all of you reading this go check them out, buy some wine, and support them any way possible. Ha. You thought I couldn’t do it.

I have to remind myself to find the good in everything every day. I was so irritated about this stupid fee, but now I’ll focus on my hometown when I pay it. I’ll think of Fox Ridge Winery when I autopay my power bill instead of that darn monthly service fee. Monthly service fee sounds like something that should be looked into by DOGE, but that is another blog.

Drink Good Wine from Traer, Iowa and be happy.

Murph-Dog and the flight attendant

I think my legs read my last blog. 4:05 this AM. Oh well I got that off my chest so no need to go backwards. I do however think the last week of writing has been pretty deep into my world. On this cold and wet Sunday morning I wanted to share something of a fun story with you. I miss my friend Murphy all the time. I struggle to call her a dog simply because she was so much to me than a dog. Not everyone can understand what I mean, but once you have a bond with a furry friend like I did you finally get it. I used to tease my friend Brian A LOT about his dog Jazzy, but later once I had Murphy in my life I understood and probably should have apologized. I called him stupid and threw a beer can at his head instead. He got the message. That flying 12 oz missile was full of I’m sorry and love.

I now have Annabel, but Murphy was the friend that changed my heart when it came to these awesome buddies. She deserves all the credit in the world. Okay I have to get to a point here or you’ll be on YouTube watching Lil Xan videos wondering where you went wrong in life. How is that little troll famous?? I had no idea who he was until Bam Margera (I follow on IG cause the dude is a fucking trainwreck) posted a photo with him yesterday. Just watching 30 seconds of one video made me dumber. I will make this promise to the human race, if I am ever close enough to this weird little dipshit I will kill him. It is the least I can do. Still not on topic.

I wanted to share a fun Murphy story with you all today just because they make me smile and that is point of Sundays. To reflect on the week now behind us accepting what happened, recognizing the lessons we needed to learn, and to get ready for the kick ass week we are about to start. A clean slate all for you. It hasn’t been written yet and you can do whatever you want starting right now. Make good choices, LOOK for ways to help others, and most importantly do something kind for a stranger every day expecting nothing in return. If you don’t currently do this you are missing out on the easiest life changing experiences. Just do it.

There are two stories I am thinking of and I’m deciding on the airplane story although the story about the young lady with CP is quite possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever had happen to me unless you consider star gazing in Arizona with world famous models a cute thing. When you see me in person please ask about the young lady with CP and Murphy story so I can do it justice. You can ask me about the stars in AZ, but most likely you won’t get to hear that story. That one is just for me.

I was flying somewhere with Murphy again. My old job in Cali required me to fly A LOT. Sometimes multiple trips in the same week and with Murphy coming along 100% of the time she learned airports and airplanes very well. She knew the drill. I was amazed at how she knew when the big suitcase came out we were going on a trip so she would not drink a lot of water because she understood there wasn’t potty breaks on the plane. She would CHUG water once we got the hotel, but prior to that she would barely touch water usually just taking a sip to wet the whistle until she knew there was access to potty time. I was almost always in awe at how many things she learned on her own.

I am usually the first person or last onto the airplane. I go down early so I can get into the aisle chair, make it down to my row, and then scoot over to the window without 150 people staring at me. I was the first one on for this particular trip, by this time Murphy had literally taken/been on hundreds of flights, and understood the process better than most humans. As I’m being strapped into the aisle chair I asked a flight attendant to take my backpack to my seat. For the sake of this blog we will say my seat was 11A. This meant my seat was row 11 seat A which is the window seat on the right side of the airplane. The flight attendant did exactly this. Once he left with the backpack another flight attendant showed up to see if she could help in anyway.

I am still holding Murphy‘s leash at this point, but decided to let go of it so that the guys can load me up onto the plane. When I let go of the leash I say to Murphy “Seat 11A” which prompts her to run onto the plane. She runs down the aisle until she sees my backpack (2nd flight attendant never saw the backpack) and then jumps into the row 11 seats on the seat A side. The look on the flight attendants face was priceless as she looked at me and said “Your service dog knows how to read??”

I said “Of course she knows how to read.” If you know me at all, you know I said that with a very straight face and loved it. She was so amazed the entire flight and I never told her differently. I think about this sometimes and wonder if she is still out there telling people how this guys service dog knew how to read. I prefer to think she is simply because it makes it that much more awesome. I love fucking with people and this one is right up there.

Do something kind for a stranger expecting nothing in return.
