You are blessed

What are you thankful for today?? Simple question, but do you ever stop and ask yourself?? I spend my days helping people in difficult situations. The things these individuals have to endure make my challenges look like a speed bump in a brand new parking lot. It truly helps me put things into perspective and I feel like it is almost my duty to share some of these experiences with all of you. I promise if you read the next three paragraphs you will be so eff’ing thankful for your life just how it is right now.

I was recently asked to deliver a table by a company in FL. It isn’t what I do, I was annoyed by it, but could tell the gentlemen asking me was becoming desperate to find someone to handle this small task. I know how that goes. Anyone know people that do Sheetrock? Okay back on topic. This delivery is such a small thing to me, but I have to remind myself that it is massive to the customer that needs this piece of specialized equipment. I gave them my usual fee of $10,000 per hour and they countered with $50 total. I accepted. I can get shrimp flavored ramen this week baby!!

Turns out it isn’t just a delivery. I had to go out to measure the world, pick the right product, fill out all the paperwork, submit it, receive the specialty table, assemble it, and then drive back out there to deliver it. Goodbye shrimp flavor……. I found out the customer has a pressure sore so I changed my schedule to go out immediately. They also asked if I could make sure his air mattress was functioning correctly. Again not what I do, but I certainly can and pressure sores are no joke so if I can help anyone avoid that horrid highway, I throw my cape on and drive fast.

Regardless, I was less than enthusiastic to do all this, but it needed to be done and I was the guy asked to do it. I reminded myself of that and put my best smile on. It truly is my favorite outfit. I knocked on the apartment door, a gorgeous young lady opened the door saying something, but I couldn’t hear a dang thing as 4 yappy dogs were going berserk-O! My sister used to talk about getting a dog like that when she gets older and then name it Dammit so she can scream at it.

“Shut up Dammit”

”Get over here Dammit”

Haha. Let me know what commands you would yell at Dammit in the comments.

I was led inside of a very small, but clean apartment. The neighborhood wasn’t the best in Charlotte, but it was clear a lot of hard working people lived here and I can respect that. I saw a large wedding photo on the wall surrounded by lots of smaller ones showing a loving family. I enjoy being welcomed into peoples homes and seeing their lives. The smile is genuine. I was led down a hallway, into the back bedroom, and as the door opened I saw him. All of the air left my lungs while a slight feeling of shame came over me for not wanting to do this task. I realized then I would have done it for free if someone had explained to me what was actually going on.

The man laying on the air mattress was the same one standing tall in that wedding photo. That photo. Still burned into my mind. The beautiful bride smiling in such bright truly happy way. The type of smile that screams “This is the best day of my life”. I didn’t have to ask what the worst day was. This young man was a quadriplegic. He is unable to move his arms and legs, unable to lift his head, and still has the trach in for when breathing becomes too difficult on his own. I believe he was hit by a drunk driver while working. I don’t know the exact story and I never ask because it isn’t my business. Sometimes people share, but I never ask for details simply because I don’t like anyone to relive the worst moment on Earth for me. Think about that before your morbid curiosity kicks in next time.

I thought about my complaining the last week about having to pay $180 to a stupid parking company. I needed this reminder of what true hardship is and immediately told myself that the Bucky pity party was officially over. My life isn’t the easiest, but I have so many blessings. So do you. If you’re not laying on your back staring at a ceiling unable to move then you’re blessed. I’m a writer. I don’t get paid to do it, yet, but I truly believe one day I will. I feel like today my job is to make you aware of just how awesome you are and amazing your life is right now. Your job is to remember that.

SET THE PACE

The world is a funny place. It can also be scary, insensitive, mean, and completely unfair. You can wake up in the best freaking mood ever and within seconds your environment which includes other humans or animals can suck the happiness out of you like a brand new Dewalt shop vac sucks up insulation. Those new extra quiet Dewalt Shop Vacs are awesome. I’m hoping for a sponsorship so if you know anyone hook a brother up!! If you don’t know anyone, I say this, what good are you?

You wake up with a smile and then it happens. What happens Bucky?? Everything. You stub your toe on your night stand. Step on a lego. Forgot to buy shampoo. Ran out of toothpaste. Someone ate the last apple. The bacon is out of date and smells bad. The trash didn’t get picked up. Someone dinged your car door. You get cut off on the way to work. Your co-workers smell bad, again…. Life simply happens. That smile turns to a scowl. That scowl leads to irritation. You fake a smile and say “I haven’t had my coffee yet..”, but you know inside coffee won’t fix this storm. Bob in accounting laughs and says “I drank the last cup of coffee, but there is tea.” Kill them all the voice says.

Paragraph 3. You made it. The best part of all is it will all happen again tomorrow. Maybe not the same exact events, but things will irritate you until the anger comes. I have a couple of extremely obvious things to point out to you real quick. First one is this. You are not alone. Everyone else is along for the ride, AND sometimes it is your face that Bob sees as you pour the last of the coffee into your cup. Oh not me Bucky, I never cause others to want to smash a hole into the wall…. Liar. We all have our moments. Maybe next time you can start a new pot before you add cream and sugar into your cup. Goes a long way and leading by example is the best way to stop the circle of irritation.

You see the first smile of the day is free. You get to wake up happy if you choose to and you certainly should because the only other alternative is being dead and that sucks. So be happy you woke up every single day. Once you receive the free “I’m Alive” smile, you have to work for all the rest of them throughout the day. The good news is the more often you do it the easier it gets. In fact if you concentrate you can simply keep the free smile on longer and that way you don’t have to work for shii-stuff. There is a secret here I’ll let you in on. Let go of the little things that don’t matter. You have other toes. Be happy you can afford legos for your kids. Toothpaste is overrated. Bacon is well awesome, but one day without it and you might live longer. More free smiles one might say….

Happy people don’t have some magic potion. They don’t have an easier life. They simply understand that smiles equal strength. Anyone can lose their crap every 27 seconds about this and that. Real power comes when you don’t. When you are able to laugh things off. Try it. Watch the reaction of those around you when you don’t react. You might think I’m typing these words out to let you into my club of positivity, but the truth is I don’t care if you join or not. It takes to much energy for me to try and drag you along. The reason I’m writing this is to remind myself. You see tomorrow morning I’m going to wake up and read this blog before I do anything else and it will set the pace for my entire day. I challenge you to do the same thing. I promise if you do, no one will have to drag you anywhere.

And most importantly, share this message with someone else that needs a kick in the ass to get out of the anger rut. Just takes one at the right time.

Try Again

A quickie for you today. Just in time for lunch so we can even call it a Nooner. Ahhh my juvenile sense of humor knows no bounds and if you can’t smile a bit at some nonsense you’re doing life wrong. I have an amazing dog named Annabel for those of you that live in a cave and never read FknBucky or listen to the podcast. She is a border collie and simply awesome. She picks things up for me and fetches pretty much anything I ask her too including my phone, wallet, and keys when I drop them or can’t find them. I’m proud of that actually, it took a lot of work and patience, but I’m not afraid of work and have no patience. Yeah I meant to say it like that.

If this is a quickie get to the point Bucky. Okay, good call. My border collie has energy forever. Never tired. We play frisbee for 1.5-3 hours a day. Every freaking day. It is challenging sometimes, but I always think, there will be a day when I will wish for just one more frisbee session and on that day I’ll smile knowing I made the most of every single day I had. Okay back on point. Annie will try to play like 50 times a day. If I roll away from my desk for only a moment she takes her shot and runs to me with a ball, toy, or frisbee almost instantly. When I wake up the first thing I see is a tennis ball in my face with hopeful eyes saying “Let’s eff’ing GO!”

47 times a day I say “no, not now, get off me, can’t you see I’m working!” Sounds rough huh? Reality is I can’t play fetch 24/7 even if I wanted to. Doesn’t stop her from trying. Somedays I only say no 42 times meaning she gets 8 play sessions. She gets 2 no matter what everyday day in case you wondered. Sometimes I’ll play for 2-3 min and then stop, but this is harder because it gets her all riled up only to tell her just kidding and I go back to work. You’d think this would deter her from asking so much. Nope.

She never stops trying. I envy it. No matter how many times I say no, she will continue to try again. Sometimes she will leave a tennis ball on the end of my bed and stare at it for hours while I’m working. I’ll finally cave and start throwing it out of sheer admiration. That type of commitment eventually must be rewarded. I think about this in my own life and when I hit a roadblock or get told no, I think “what would Annie do?” Lay down, take a break, lick herself a while, and then try again. I personally skip the 3rd one, but you be you.

That is just frisbee Bucky. So is everything. A $.04 deal is no different than a 4 million deal. Same everything. You just buy a bigger toy with your commission is the only difference. So relax. Enjoy the moment. Try. Then try again. Then try again. Guess what. Try again. Try again. Let the past failures go. Learn the lesson and then forget it. Think Annie thinks about the last 472 days I said “get out of my face” when I wake up or does she think “today is the day!”

Make today the day. Stop crying about the past. Forget and do something new today. Try again.

A happy plus

Hello my literate friends. I’ve got the anger right now so I decided to write, but it might not be what you think so please read to the end. I wanted to write a message about Christmas, then New Year’s, and now I realize we are already past one week into 2025. These days fly by without us paying attention. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, and then year after year slip by. I’m 46 now. I’m a plus. What is a plus Bucky?? I’ll tell you. Recently I was on Amazon or something and a chart came up. It asked my age. Here are the choices.

18-25, 25-35, 35-45, 45+

I thought WTF when I had to check the plus box. I can deal with the gray hairs, the aches and pains in the AM, the loss of people I love, but marking that box hit me pretty hard. I thought about my goals, my life, my decisions, and all of the moments I could have done differently. Then I got drunk and texted ex-girlfriends until 4 AM. Just kidding. I’m old and only text until Matlock comes on at 9 pm.

The truth is we can’t change the past. Ever. We can learn from our mistakes and try very hard to not repeat them. That is it. No more. I like to read from a book call ZEN FLESH ZEN BONES and I highly recommend everyone on planet EARTH read it as well. There is a story in it about two monks walking down a road in a downpour. They come across a very beautiful young woman walking in a silk kimono that needs to get across a muddy section. One of the monks simply walked over to her, picked her up, carried her across the mud so that she would keep her clothes clean, and then put her down.

The two monks continued on their way without saying a word. Many hours later as they lay down to sleep the monk that didn’t carry the woman finally had to say something. All day he thought about how his friend had touched a woman when they had sworn to NOT do that very thing. He said “Friend, how could you carry that woman knowing our vows??

As he rolled over to fall asleep the other monk replied “I set her down on the side of the road, but it seems you have been carrying her all day.”

How much do you carry around all day?? How much of it is from other peoples actions that have nothing to do with you??? Imagine if you could learn to leave it at the side of the road. We should always be students, learning to be better at life, enabling us to become teachers to the next generation. If you agree with that statement what lessons do you want to teach?? I would like the people around me to become better than I am, to be smarter than I am, more patient than I am, and hopefully more prosperous than I am in all aspects of life.

I will now tell you why I was angry. My van had an oil leak. I’m told it is common with my model of vehicle and it is going to cost me about $1,000. I pay CarShield $89 a month to cover repairs that come up, but now for the second time in 5 years they denied to pay anything. Had I simply put the $89 a month I pay CarShield into an account I would still have $3,193 AFTER I paid for the repairs needed.

Instead I’ve paid them $5,340, paid auto repair workers $2,147, and have the same result. I’ve cancelled my policy with them this morning and just set up an auto pay out of my account into a new “auto” savings account. Lesson learned. This was an expensive one, but I promised myself not to carry it around with me all day. I’m going to leave it here. It isn’t going to hurt CarShield if I run around town telling everyone how horrible of a day I’m having because of this event. Nope.

I’m going to tell everyone I’m doing great. I caught the leak early before any serious damage was done. AWE AUTO in Traer, IA was able to get my van fixed in a very reasonable amount of time and for a very fair price. Live is good. I have an amazing family, a ton of awesome friends, an amazing furry best friend, a business of my own, my health is great, and on and on and on. So this PLUS is going to smile today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the year. I hope you find reasons to smile with me.

I wish I was your lover

DAMN! I wish I was your lover…..

What a song. Brought back some great memories the other day from a time that seems like yesterday, but I realize it was almost 30 years ago. Some of the girls I went to school with would say “Damn” and then I would sing (very very poorly) the “wish I was your lover” part. It became a thing and truth be told I’m not sure how it started. I think it was because I had a huge crush on one of them, but some secrets are meant to be kept…..

Grandpa was right. Go read a few blogs back if you don’t know the reference. I’m happy for those moments, those times when a song comes on the radio and I’m immediately transported back to a particular night or memory that makes me smile. I’m lucky enough to still have a memory after my 20’s so I count that in the blessing column for sure. We all have bad moments in life and that is perfectly natural so embrace them. Understand that they will pass. This year has been a freaking crazy one for me, but seeing a post on FB about a song melted all the hardship away in a moment. I smiled and life was good again.

A song on the radio. A car driving by. A shirt you see. An old picture in a box you find. A city. I have all of these things and more that remind me of amazing moments I’ve had in life. It isn’t luck they happened, these moments were made possible by showing up to the party, saying yes to that voice in my head, and simply putting myself out there. It is important to encourage the kids around you (your own kids, nieces and nephews, step kids, random D-Bag kid that keeps walking on your yard) to take the chances needed to make these special memories. We all see what happens when kids are isolated.

Sanitarium by Metallica and Damn, I wish I was your lover (kinda forgot about that one….). Chevy Lumina (couple of them). Obviously seeing anyone in a FknBucky shirt!! I have hundreds of pictures in boxes. ROME. These are just some of the special memories that I keep in my head to make me smile when I need it the most. When you have a tough time happening take a minute to go back to one of your special moments and simply smile. I promise whatever hardship won’t seem so hard when you look back at it.

No making fun of your race, face, the space you take, or any other things that would be an ace. No jokes abut who you sleep with. No jokes about myself, my family, my friends, or anyone else that will laugh cause I’m funny.

Smiles are free

Been a minute my friends. I’ve started a few blogs but decided against publishing. There are times when I try to force something out, but I can see thru it and I imagine those of you that take the time to read my blogs (I truly love and thank all of you) will also notice. I respect you enough to not give you mediocre content. That being said if I made more time to blog, the ideas and inspirations are endless so it falls on me to write more. A couple weeks ago I had a couple kids come visit me here in North Carolina. I was honored that 18 year old young adults would take a 5 day vacation to come spend time with “Uncle Bucky” a role I always take seriously. I love getting to talk smack with them and sprinkle in some wisdom from time to time. My door is always open to just about anyone. If you are a thief don’t bother. I can’t stand people that steal. Ever.

While driving home from Myrtle Beach we got into some deeper conversations and I relayed a story to them. One I have not talked about in a long time, but even thinking of it now I get a bit water eyed. I may have blogged it a few years ago, buy I can’t remember. I was teaching therapists at the local hospital on how to use a specific piece of equipment. A co-worker from the home office in Florida flew up to train with me and we spent the entire day training group after group. We took about an hour for lunch and just went to the cafeteria. The line was long, but moving at a good pace. I like everyone love to people watch so while in line I’m scanning the room. There is a good chance I know someone in the room because I know just about everyone and almost everyone knows Bucky.

Not this time. I did notice a little girl that was about 8 years old eating lunch with her Mom. She was hooked up to multiple machines and was clearly sick with something severe. I hate seeing this, but it is reality. She locked eyes with Murphy and it was game over. I looked at my co-worker and told him “There are more important matters to deal with so just grab me whatever you order” and left my place in line. I took Murphy over to this young lady and asked if she wanted to say hello. If you have never seen “stuck in hospital connected to machine little girl smile while dog petting” you can’t understand how powerful that moment is. It is something you will never forget for the rest of your life. Remember life isn’t about you, it is about what YOU do for others.

Mom said thank you quietly, but I can read lips well enough to hear it. My friend came by with the sandwiches and we found a table about 20 feet away. My new friend still had her eyes locked on Murphy like a Bears quarterback to the Number 1 receiver. Everyone in the stadium knows where the ball is going. My crazy Bucky mind had an idea. I put my sandwich down and rolled back over to my new best friend. I told her I had a problem, and said “I am having a tough time because I can’t hold onto Murphy and eat my food. Would you mind holding her for a while so I can eat lunch?” Remember the smile I just told you about. I got one twice as big and right in front of me I watched this little person fill with happiness and life. She asked very wide eyed “Really??” As I watched her Mom start to cry. It was a very awesome moment in my life. I created it. I could have easily waited in line, ordered a sandwich I actually liked (my co-worker eats crap food), and went along with my life. Instead because I pay attention and cherish opportunities like this a few strangers had a much better day.

Like many other times I had a completely different idea for this blog, but felt like this story should be told. I don’t share so people can say “Bucky you’re so kind blah blah” because I don’t need that. I’ve said it before and will again, I promise you will never know how many things I do for others. My biggest hope to inspire others to do the same. There is a feeling you get when you are kind to strangers just because it is the right thing to do. It is addicting. Imagine a world addicted to that instead of crack, heroin, alcohol, sex, stealing, vaping, and all the other crap behavior we have as humans.

Be present and recognize the moment. Understand that giving someone a smile is more beneficial than handing them $20. $20 can be gone very quickly, but a smile and happy memory can last a lifetime. It can be passed on to others countless times creating more and more smiles. People you will never know could be smiling right now because of the smile chain you started. That is real power., we all have it inside of us, and it cost nothing to use.

I promise if you simply take a moment to look around there is someone near you that needs someone to say “I care”, “the world cares”, “you are not alone”, or something like “where you born that ugly or do you have to work at it??”. Crack jokes. Mess with people. One quick note and I’m done today. I took my out of town visitors to the indoor skydiving place here in Charlotte. I was busting balls the whole time cause that is what I do. The guys working there said “you’ve been here before”. It was 3 plus years ago, but yes I had been there before. He says I remember the sense of humor.

Be yourself and be memorable.

Love who you are today because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Be Present

How you doing blog readers?? I want to start off saying thank you for supporting my dream and reading my words. I appreciate it very much. I was just out with Annie on a very hot night here in the Queen City. It is 9 PM and still almost 90 outside. I was sweating like crazy throwing the frisbee and had to use the headlight on my Companion (Scooter attachment to wheelchair/ Retail as low as $2,500) to see where to throw it. This insanely bright light also attracted every bug for a 3 block radius so that was super awesome also. I was sweating like a lady of the night in church, bugs all over, and a very happy dog that just wanted me to hurry up and throw the frisbee over and over and over.

I’m a good dog Dad and threw the frisbee many many times for the second time today actually. I put a lot of pressure on myself thinking every blog has to be the most amazing thing I’ve ever written, but that leads to me not blogging often. The person that is hardest and most demanding of me, is me. I set the bar high and will never stop trying to be better everyday. You know my philosophy of helping a stranger everyday without acknowledgement and one you may not know is I want to learn something new everyday. New skill, new word, new friend, new viewpoint, or whatever you want. To me learning is fun. I don’t understand people that refuse to read, refuse to try something different, refuse to talk to someone that disagrees with them (I mean TALK, not scream at or call names), and just grow as a person.

Zooming back from frisbee session I’m annoyed. I’m thinking the heat sucks, bugs suck, the guy in that car sucks, I hate that stupid bird over there, and not even realizing how negative my thoughts had become. I took the corner and saw downtown Charlotte all lit up which is pretty cool at night. My thought right then was “Man it is awesome being alive” and everything changed in an instant. Suddenly it wasn’t so hot, the bugs were gone, I still think the guy in the car sucks (not my fault he is a Ginger), and the bird was cool. His name was… Birds don’t have names or talk dummy. You guys/gals are gullible. ha. The reality was one simple view of the city got me back on the right path.

Life is a struggle. Accept that part of it. Fighting it or thinking somehow it will just get super easy one day is setting yourself up for guaranteed disappointment every time that nameless bird poops on your head. Hey, at least the Ginger didn’t poop on your head. My thought was I’m glad I’m present. What I mean by that is I was willing to let go of the junk and simply be present to recognize the blessings around me. I have an awesome dog, I have a great apartment in a fantastic city, I have a lot of great friends, and a wonderful family that I’m going to see in less than two weeks.

So I remind myself by writing this blog to be present in the moment. Enjoy the time we are blessed with on Earth. Be kind to others, compliment a random stranger on their shirt, shoes, car, hair, or whatever as it will make them stand a little taller and love their moment. A simple “wow, you look great today, that shirt is awesome” can make all the difference in the world to the right person. Hug your family and tell them how important they are to you. You don’t have to wait for a moment, a person, or anything to be a beacon of positivity in your life. BE THE POSITIVE.

It sounds so simple, but many many people on Earth will never get it or practice it.

Appreciate you all,

FknBucky

Friday – Not the movie

Funny I never name blogs until after I write them, but not today. I know where I’m going with it and I’m not all that stoked about it. Problem is I feel like I have to bring it up again. And again. And again. People are so selfish that it numbs my mind sometimes. I deal with stuff everyday that you don’t even know about. Why would you?? Many of you don’t live in a city, use a wheelchair, and lets be honest you are drunk by 9 AM. That is why I love you Mom. Drunk or not she reads every blog.

I had to get my van inspected yesterday because in NC every year you have to pay $30 to have someone tell you that your vehicle is drivable. I got a guy though that helps me out. They take the dead hooker out and ask no questions. They did ask I get there at 7 AM which isn’t a real problem for me as I’m usually up early anyway. That is what I did, but as I pulled up I noticed an Auto Zone near by. Who cares about Auto Zone Bucky?? Great question. Not me anymore although last year while waiting for my van to be inspected I spent $100 at this Auto Zone killing time. I still have the armor all wipes rolling around my van that I never use. Waste of money those where. They don’t get blood out of leather. Don’t ask questions.

I noticed the car parked out front in between the blue man spots. Notice the club. Yeah cause car thieves look for that white piece of shit to joyride in. You can’t even fit your “few extra lbs” tinder date in that tiny white car. I did take a picture, but didn’t worry to much about it as it was 6:45 in the morning. Maybe some dumbass parked there as a joke or something else. I’ve done a lot of dumb things in life too, but I guarantee that I never ever parked in a blue man spot before I was in a wheelchair. I respect myself way to much to do some character killing act like that. The moment you park in a blue man illegally your character dies. I don’t make the rules, well actually I do, and once your character is dead you don’t get a redo.

Okay lets move on in the day. I go to the hospital and do some volunteer time. A young man (36 yrs old) came to Charlotte on vacation from Iowa to see a girl. He was shot on his 3rd day here and is now paralyzed. He has no insurance, his family is of very limited needs, and he has the hardest thing in the world on his plate to deal with. Alone. His family couldn’t afford to come out. I don’t know peoples history and don’t ask. My family would hitchhike (I would as well) to be there in a time of need like this, but not everyone has that relationship. I can’t imagine going thru that alone, in a foreign city, with almost no light at the end of the tunnel. He has to fly home alone next week even though he has never been on a plane before. The challenges some people are ginormous. Thank everything you can that you don’t know this level of hardship.

I finish there after a few hours and get home. Time to pay my registration. Nope can’t. The guy at the inspection place put my Ford Edge info on my paperwork and not my van. Mistakes happen. I call the place and have to drive back down. Pain the ass – YES, end of days – NOPE. I go to leave and there is FEDEX. Right on time. Multiple times a week I have to wait on FEDEX so I can leave or park. It is annoying to say the least. I get it he has a job to do, but park in front of someone else’s car. Just because I use a wheelchair doesn’t make my time less valuable. Sometimes it is really fucking hard to keep the smile many of you know me to have. He finally comes out, tells me how sorry he is, and moves his truck. I hate the “sorry” as he and I both know he is going to do it again tomorrow.

I arrive at the inspection spot around 2:20 PM. Guess who is still parked like an A-hole at Auto Zone?? I was honestly in disbelief. How can anyone park like that?? EVER. I need the extra room to open my door all the way. When this dipshit parks in between the two spots he makes them both useless. Taking one spot isn’t enough for this chubby chaser. No, he wants to block both blue man spots. People in wheelchairs are stupid and should not leave the house. We get the message tiny crap white car. I take my van into a very apologetic (I believe his apology) inspection service center and still do not mention the dead hooker they got rid of for me. Don’t ask, don’t tell. I do ask them about the white car at Auto Zone cause at this point it is clear this isn’t a one time deal. Here is the best part. It is the Auto Zone delivery vehicle. Unbelievable.

Correct paperwork in hand I finally head home to finish up my registration issues. Remember the Geico blog?? I do cause Geico sucks. Thankfully I had to pay ANOTHER $50 to North Carolina DOT. When I got my registration active before they charged me a $50 reinstatement fee. Get this. They charged me another $50 for restoration yesterday. Can’t even make this up. I called them and the lady laughed saying “Yeah they screw you”. We punish people that can’t afford things like car insurance by charging them more money. My situation wasn’t because I could not afford it, but it could have been. Poor people stay poor in America.

What a day. I have one more errand to run, but not to be outdone by FEDEX the UPS guy decides to block me in as well. “It’s only 5 minutes Bucky.” Nothing is 5 minutes. You and I both know it is 20 minutes. It is everyday. How would you react?? Would you be angry?? It is cool though, handicap people deserve to wait, and it is only 5 minutes. Don’t forget about Amazon delivery guy as well. I didn’t catch him yesterday, but I bet he did it too. I can’t dwell on it as it makes me angry all the time. It never ends.

There is a lot in the blog today. I ask that you pray for the man in the hospital. Even if you aren’t religious maybe just send some good vibes his way. He needs all the help the world can give. Take today to appreciate your life. You aren’t shot and paralyzed in a city 1,000 miles away from home with no money or true plan on how to navigate life now.

Be kind to one another. Just simply be kind to others. Not for them, but for your character. You will never regret it.

Farming is the Life for ME!!

Dog week. I’m stuck in a Marriott tonight. My home away from home most of the time. I spend a lot of time in hotels so I pick Marriotts. They all have good and bad parts about them. I will say that I mysteriously got another free night added to my account about a week after I wrote that blog and had the fighting with them. I’ll take it, but I’m still mad at them. Honeymoon is over. I am however in room 130 at my favorite Courtyard. The one that they renovated and then set up how I asked them too. Still kinda surprised they actually put the stripper pole in, but I do spend a lot of money at Marriotts. I also spend money at the nudie bar. Now I can do both at the same time. I dare you to say you hate America. Not on my watch hippie.

None of that first paragraph had a dang thing to do with a dog. Awesome. I had intentions to get there, but stripper pole popped in the mind. All down hill from there. For the record I’m kidding. I don’t spend lots of money on Marriott. Sorry Mom. So I got to thinking about different dog stories I could use for tonight and about 3 minutes before I started typing I thought about the dogs we had on the farm. Some of you may know that I grew up on a dairy farm in Nothern Wisconsin. I did go to high school in Iowa, but until I was 12 years old I scooped poop everyday. Cow poop, calf poop, pig poop, My own poop, and the best part was even after doing it all day, the next day there was all new poop to scoop. So awesome.

Those cows were work. Milking every morning and every evening. I used to get up early with my sister and Mom to go do the morning milking before school. I’d head to school for some learning, my daily beat down from classmates as I was not cool and smelled like poop, only to come home and milk cows again. The next time your kid complains about taking the trash out, I need you to calmly walk up to them, and then punch them in the face. Twice. Once is boring and sends the wrong message. Two times lets them know you really freaking mean it. I don’t have kids so obviously my parental skills are perfect. Remember that.

Dogs. Okay. Fine. Stop whining. We had German Shepherds growing up. The first one I remember is Mickey. That dog was awesome. She knew where each cow was supposed to be. When the cows came in for milking they have assigned parking spots and when a cow went to the wrong one Mickey was there to help get her straight. You know these were working dogs that didn’t come in the house ever. It is a different kind of relationship with a dog like that compared to a Murphy or Annabel. Working dogs like Mickey are more like a co-worker. They have a job to do as a protector, referee (keeping cows in line), and command a type of respect that is admirable. Nobody would mess with us kids when Mickey and later Smokey were around. Our next dog was named Smokey because she would steal Dad’s Camel cigarettes and smoke them behind the barn. Oh shoot, my bad, that was Jeremy.

No Smokey was named that because she was a gray color. Hey I know a kid that had a Dalmatian named Spotty so don’t give me a hard time. You know who you are Weaver!! Ha. One way to find out if he reads this blog. I also had a pig that I named Miss Piggy. It was a boy pig. Ha. Just kidding. I only name girl dogs boy dog names. Ever wonder how Murphy got her name?? I plead the fifth. As a kid it is often very difficult to appreciate just how special somethings are simply because it is all you know. Those farm dogs were pretty amazing.

I’m very curious if any of you have a cool working dog story. I don’t think I remember any specific story about either of those dogs, but that’s okay. Please let me know if you do as I’d love to hear it. So remember Dogs are like stripper poles. It doesn’t matter where they are, they are always awesome.

Be kind to a dog today. Extra walk, extra treat, or just one more belly rub. They are worth it.
