You are blessed

What are you thankful for today?? Simple question, but do you ever stop and ask yourself?? I spend my days helping people in difficult situations. The things these individuals have to endure make my challenges look like a speed bump in a brand new parking lot. It truly helps me put things into perspective and I feel like it is almost my duty to share some of these experiences with all of you. I promise if you read the next three paragraphs you will be so eff’ing thankful for your life just how it is right now.

I was recently asked to deliver a table by a company in FL. It isn’t what I do, I was annoyed by it, but could tell the gentlemen asking me was becoming desperate to find someone to handle this small task. I know how that goes. Anyone know people that do Sheetrock? Okay back on topic. This delivery is such a small thing to me, but I have to remind myself that it is massive to the customer that needs this piece of specialized equipment. I gave them my usual fee of $10,000 per hour and they countered with $50 total. I accepted. I can get shrimp flavored ramen this week baby!!

Turns out it isn’t just a delivery. I had to go out to measure the world, pick the right product, fill out all the paperwork, submit it, receive the specialty table, assemble it, and then drive back out there to deliver it. Goodbye shrimp flavor……. I found out the customer has a pressure sore so I changed my schedule to go out immediately. They also asked if I could make sure his air mattress was functioning correctly. Again not what I do, but I certainly can and pressure sores are no joke so if I can help anyone avoid that horrid highway, I throw my cape on and drive fast.

Regardless, I was less than enthusiastic to do all this, but it needed to be done and I was the guy asked to do it. I reminded myself of that and put my best smile on. It truly is my favorite outfit. I knocked on the apartment door, a gorgeous young lady opened the door saying something, but I couldn’t hear a dang thing as 4 yappy dogs were going berserk-O! My sister used to talk about getting a dog like that when she gets older and then name it Dammit so she can scream at it.

“Shut up Dammit”

”Get over here Dammit”

Haha. Let me know what commands you would yell at Dammit in the comments.

I was led inside of a very small, but clean apartment. The neighborhood wasn’t the best in Charlotte, but it was clear a lot of hard working people lived here and I can respect that. I saw a large wedding photo on the wall surrounded by lots of smaller ones showing a loving family. I enjoy being welcomed into peoples homes and seeing their lives. The smile is genuine. I was led down a hallway, into the back bedroom, and as the door opened I saw him. All of the air left my lungs while a slight feeling of shame came over me for not wanting to do this task. I realized then I would have done it for free if someone had explained to me what was actually going on.

The man laying on the air mattress was the same one standing tall in that wedding photo. That photo. Still burned into my mind. The beautiful bride smiling in such bright truly happy way. The type of smile that screams “This is the best day of my life”. I didn’t have to ask what the worst day was. This young man was a quadriplegic. He is unable to move his arms and legs, unable to lift his head, and still has the trach in for when breathing becomes too difficult on his own. I believe he was hit by a drunk driver while working. I don’t know the exact story and I never ask because it isn’t my business. Sometimes people share, but I never ask for details simply because I don’t like anyone to relive the worst moment on Earth for me. Think about that before your morbid curiosity kicks in next time.

I thought about my complaining the last week about having to pay $180 to a stupid parking company. I needed this reminder of what true hardship is and immediately told myself that the Bucky pity party was officially over. My life isn’t the easiest, but I have so many blessings. So do you. If you’re not laying on your back staring at a ceiling unable to move then you’re blessed. I’m a writer. I don’t get paid to do it, yet, but I truly believe one day I will. I feel like today my job is to make you aware of just how awesome you are and amazing your life is right now. Your job is to remember that.

Thank you

I have a dozen blogs in my head right now, but this one is way overdue. I grew up in rural Iowa, driving around on gravel roads, drinking beer on random bridges, and raising hell anyway I could without fear of punishments. I somehow understood the razor edge and spent a lot of time on it loving the adrenaline that came with being a bad boy without actually being a bad human. I always worked, never stole anything from anyone, and simply liked drinking Busch lights a long time before I was 21. This habit drew me a lot of attention from Johnny Law and let me tell you (Trump voice), I got a lot of attention from this guy, like way more than anyone else….

I hated cops. They took my beer away. I paid for that I would say. Jerks. I’d yell “We are just trying to have some fun, we aren’t hurting anyone, go solve a crime you not nice guys.” Ha. I’m sure you can think of the words that I actually would use. I won’t give the actual number possessions under the legal age I had while living in Iowa, but I will say it was more than 5 and less than 2,003. I’m over 21 now, just barely.., so I don’t have to worry about the police taking my beer away anymore.

Today is a thank you. A long overdue thank you. I’m thanking my former enemy. The Tama County (Iowa) Sheriffs department. For those of you that may not know a friend of mine, Ryan Cooper, was murdered in Traer, Iowa on June 18th, 2021. It was vicious, it was evil, it was the most cold blooded act I’ve ever seen in life, and it took over 2 years for an arrest to be made. His wife and her lover are now in a cage awaiting trial and will be found guilty of this horrid, pathetic, and cowardly act. Why would you thank them if it took over two years Bucky?? I’m going to tell you right now.

I was at the funeral. It was incredibly hard. I saw friends I haven’t seen in 20 years, we gave the awkward smile of hello, good to see you, but no joyous moment because the reason we were together still hadn’t set it yet. I saw Dennis Kucera the Sheriff of Tama County. He didn’t smile at all. He was in uniform. He was working. This is a small town. We all know each other and have history. His son and the Ryan were very close friends and I can’t imagine the strength it took to stand there on that day. I can’t imagine the drive to work everyday passing friends and neighbors who keep asking the same question “Why can’t you make an arrest??” I can’t imagine passing the house it happened in and then passing the house the murderer was now living in with her children on the way to work every single day.

Dennis had to keep it professional. He couldn’t explain all the work going on, all the red tape, all the waiting for transcripts and text messages, and how they had to wait to make sure the case was air tight to hopefully keep the guilty in prison forever. Many of us wondered who did it and came to the same conclusion over and over. There simply wasn’t anyone else it could be, but yet it took SO LONG to get an arrest. It was frustrating for us, but I can’t imagine being the man responsible for catching the killer of the man who was in his son’s wedding.

I don’t mention people by name in my blog often, but today is special. I want to thank Dennis Kucera and the Tama County Sheriff department for not giving up, for keeping it professional, and for arresting the monsters that stole our brother. #BuschLightBrotherhood

The trial will come, they will be found guilty, and then spend the rest of their lives in prison. No joy from any of it. A senseless crime that stole a loving father from his children and will take their mother away as well. They are the ultimate victims and my heart breaks for them. I ask that everyone remembers Ryan how he was in life and not the evil way he was taken from us. His smile, his eagerness to help a friend, and the sound of him cracking open that cold Busch Light after working all day is how I choose to remember my friend.

Thank you Tama County.

That one thing

Short, tall, rich, poor, white, black, American, Brazilian, or anything else you can think of to describe what we all are. They are simply labels, but the truth when it is broken down, we are all humans. Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever party you choose to be a part of again we are the same. Only our minds are different. That thing inside your head that grows with you year after year. Each experience you have makes a notch in it creating who you are right now. Somewhere along the way a person cared enough about you to make sure you learned how to read otherwise you would be playing candy crush level 4,384 instead of reading this blog. You should call and thank them.

I have a point to this so hang on. People with less actually are able to appreciate the topic I’m writing about. The thing we all have regardless of who we vote for. The thing that so many humans forget to appreciate on a daily basis. We spend each day chasing a dollar, working for the man, being annoyed by those around us, and forgetting the best thing in each of us. What could that be? Simple and it is only one word. Blessings.

We all have them. Are you dry? Cool?? Do you have something to eat today?? It may not be steak and lobster, but if you have a full belly then you are blessed. You may not have a 23 bedroom mansion, but are you in the rain?? I don’t have air conditioning Bucky. Hmmmm. Do you have a fan? Blessing. I don’t have a fan Bucky. Hmmm. Got a window?? If the answer is no then you’re in jail. If you’re in jail stop wasting time reading this and go get a book. Start with this one. How to stop committing crimes for Dumbasses.

I wasn’t going to write this evening, but Annie kept shoving this darn football onto my lap. I was annoyed with her, but then it hit me that instead of annoyed I should feel blessed she wants to hang out with me. Instead of being annoyed with your family after a long week remember how blessed you are to have them. Close your eyes, imagine life without them, take ownership of that feeling, and then remember it every time you begin to be annoyed.

It is proven that people in poor countries are genuinely happier simply because they haven’t been tainted with all the BS some of us have been. They don’t compare their life with a fake family on TV. Instead they care about each other and appreciate the things they do have. I make a point to do that everyday, I always feel better about what I have today, and it reminds me to appreciate everyone I’ve met along the way. Thank you to everyone that has blessed my life.

Feel blessed right now. Be a shame to not be happy with a full belly.

45 Seconds

Justice for Ryan Cooper. No one will forget him and we will search for the person/persons responsible forever. The truth will come out and you will be held accountable.

When I write these blogs I have a thought in my head that I can only get out by putting the words down on paper. I think about things constantly as the world around me changes I analyze everything in real time deciding how I feel about it. This is just the way I’m wired I guess and it isn’t changing at this point. The reason I say that is because yesterday was a roller coaster of emotion on my 8-9 hour drive to Alabama to spend Thanksgiving with my brothers family. I lived here for a good amount of time before I moved to Charlotte so quite of people in this small community know me as the better looking, smarter, definitely more intelligent brother.

I witnessed a semi truck drive over a car in Atlanta. I was on the phone with a business, when 2 lanes over (6 lanes at this point) a car tried to drive under a semi and was driven over. My immediate response was ”Oh My God” and I’m quite certain people lost their lives. It looked really bad, my heart broke for those involved, and I thought of their families getting ready for a fun holiday tomorrow/today with family only to have it become a tragedy. I drive A LOT. More than any of my friends. I’ve driven from Coast to Coast and from Canada to Mexico at least a dozen times. I am baffled by the horrible driving I witness daily.

Two hours after witnessing this accident I was caught up in traffic slowing to a stop and for the most part doing 5-10 mph for over 30 minutes. I finally got up to where the accident was only to see it was on the Northbound side of the Freeway. The only reason I was in stop and go traffic for 30 minutes was because looky-loos had to slow down and look at the crap sandwich on the other side of the freeway. I made a very sweet video about my feelings during this situation. If cursing offends you please don’t watch it. I believe in the 33 second video only 2 words are not cuss words. It is mostly for shock value and I hoped it would give my friends a laugh.

I made it to the exit in Southern Alabama and was only about 7 minutes from my LA (Lower Alabama) home. I pulled up to a very familiar intersection where lots of flashing lights were going on as the fire department was out directing traffic and not letting people turn left. I was going right at this T intersection, but still rolled down my window to confirm that was okay. I asked ”Can I go right??” and got this response from a sassy firewoman ”I don’t know, can you???”.

Clearly she knew who I was. FknBucky is famous. Thought you knew. I asked if my not as good looking as me brother was at the accident and she replied ”yes”. I asked if it was bad and she again said ”yes”. Little Brother has been on the volunteer fire department for almost a decade now and has seen a lot of bad things. Being this close to the freeway he has seen things most of us pray daily we will never have to witness. This part of the blog is going to be hard to read. People need to understand the consequences of doing stupid crap in a car.

The driver of the car thought it would be a good idea to pass other cars on this two lane highway. Accelerating to well over the speed limit the driver pulled out in the oncoming traffic lane and started to pass other drivers. I know this stretch of road and there is a town in about 10 miles. Even if they could do 80 miles an hour the whole way a person maybe would arrive 45 seconds sooner, but I’ll let you judge if that 45 seconds was worth the gamble. What is the wager Bucky?? Well, if you win you arrive to the 25 mile an hour zone and stop light 45 seconds sooner than if you had just drove the speed limit. If you lose people in your vehicle die.

While passing the cars it is believed a car came at this car so to avoid a head on collision the driver had to swerve quickly back into the correct lane. When they did this at extremely unsafe speeds this driver drove straight into the back of another vehicle. The vehicle lost control, flipped and rolled, and got all kinds of smashed up before finally coming to a rest. There were very bad injuries to the people in that all vehicles involved. I know of a similar accident where all 4 teenagers in the car were decapitated. Easily avoidable incidents like this happen way to often. In fact a few years ago about a couple hundred yards from my brothers house a group of kids were going to fast, swerved to miss a dog, lost control of the vehicle when it hit a concrete power line pole, and two 15 year old kids died. I wrote about that in a blog the day after.

I would much rather write a blog about being thankful for all the good in your life today. The truth is you should be thankful for everything. Instead I’m awake at 4 AM with this on my mind making it impossible to sleep until I get this out of my head. Just slow down. I see cars everyday that weave from one lane to the next cutting people off, passing on the right, and just driving like an asshole only to take the next exit. If this is you – KNOCK it off. If you constantly gamble the lives of people in your car and the lives of people in cars around you it is only a matter of time that you will lose the bet.

Life is beautiful. It is a gift. It is fragile and NOT guaranteed. It could be over too soon, but gambling your life on the way to Walmart is simply stupid. I write about this with a heavy heart, but if one person thinks about this blog, takes my advice to slow down, and not drive like an idiot it will be worth it. Please share this message with people you care about. The families of all the people involved in the accidents yesterday should be having a great day cooking a turkey today. Instead they are in shock, heartbroken, and possibly planning a funeral. 45 eff’ing Seconds…….
